Engine Oil.
It is time to change my oil again, /o/. I generally use a castrol or mobil 1 full synthetic. It is about $30 for the 5 quarts for my car, I use ~4.7 of 0-W20. It is just an econobox.
My question is this: How can I obtain quality oil as cheaply as lube shops?
I don't take my car to lube shops anymore because I constantly have issues with them. Too much oil, not enough oil, scratching the paint, spilling oil all over engine bay and not cleaning it, etc. Not to mention sometimes it takes an hour+ for the service that takes me about 30 minutes from the time I get under the car, till the time I take the used oil to the recycler.
But buying oil from a retailer is expensive. It isn't un-affordable, just a lot more than what lube shops pay/charge.
Anyone know where to get quality oil at wholesale cost?
>pic related, walmart is charging $21 for a single quart of this
>>16671583
Go to a real walmart, they often have mobil1 and castrol 5qt jugs of full synthetic 0w20 for $22-26. That $21 price you're seeing is probably online from a different seller, not walmart themselves. The normal price for single quarts is around $8.
Don't get your filter there though, go to oreillys and get a wix or wix XP. Everything walmart sells is fram garbage or overpriced bosch. Unless you want motorcraft, they have that too for a reasonable price.

>walmart is charging $21 for a single quart of this
My walmart has 5 quart jug of that for 24.50 and Castrol Edge 0w-20 for 22.97.
If your gonna buy a Fram filter get the Ultra.
Try ordering from walmart.com ?

Dang, I've been using the frams this whole time. What's wrong with them? Should I be concerned now?
Are pressure washers bad for cars?
I hear different things. that it strips the paint or it drags debris across your car.
is it true? How should i wash my car?
>>16669598
They have different settings; usually light medium and heavy. Go with light and make sure there is no gunk in the nozzle. Also don't keep it one spot too long; move it across the car
Ive use pressure washers regularly and I have never had paint issues. The automatic washers that drag those rags (cant think of the real name) can scratch and swirl the paint. Hand washing with a sponge/rag can damage paint if you dont do it properly.
>How should i wash my car?
Get a brown car and dont clean it. Thats what I did.
>>16669598
>Are pressure washers bad for cars?
depends on the pressure washer, gas powered is nono.
>How should i wash my car?
With a microfiber sponge.
As far as water sources go, you can use a pressure washer as long as it isn't too high pressure. I just use a pressure attachment for a regular hose and it's about as hard as I'd feel comfortable hitting my car with (especially with the hard ass water we have here).
Pic related is what I use, with the fan nozzle of course.
>make sure your car isn't warm, don't wash in the sun (water spots are the devil and ignoring this is the easiest way to get them)
>soak entire car to wash away dust and loose dirt and to loosen up caked on stuff
>go over entire car with pressure attachment, wheels first, then top down
>if there's a lot of stuck on shit, spray it with all purpose cleaner and let it soak while you do the wheels
>wash your wheels first with completely separate wash equipment than you'll use for the rest of the car to not contaminate what will be touching your paint
>have a wash bucket with soap and a rinse bucket with a grit guard
>use a microfiber wash sponge (the one with a bunch of little noodles)
>soak wash sponge in wash bucket, go over car lightly (starting from the top down, rocker panels and bumpers last) lifting away dirt. Do not apply much pressure to the sponge, anything still stuck on you should remove with an an all purpose cleaner or a quick detailer spray. DO NOT use circular motions. Go over horizontal surfaces in a front to back motion, vertical surfaces in up and down motions.
>clean one panel (or less) at a time and rinse your wash mitt in the rinse bucket after each panel or section. Use the grit guard to get all the dirt and particles off your sponge and let it safely fall to the bottom under the grit guard. Then soak again in the wash bucket. Your wash bucket should not be getting dirty with this method, only your rinse bucket should.

It's rad, but an airbag would be nice.
I work for a tire place, and I'm here to help with any questions you may have regarding your tires.
>Are gas station/gummy plugs safe?
For the long run, absolutely not. For a temporary fix just to get you to a safe place, yes they are.
The reason gummy plugs aren't very safe is because as you drive on the tire with the gummy plug, water can get into that repair, that will expand the plug, and as the plug dries out, it'll shrink. As the plug continues to shrink and grow continuously, there's a chance it can fall out as you're driving, which can even result in a blow out.
>How should a tire be repaired?
The correct way to do a proper repair is to remove the nail if there is one, drill through the hole to remove any obstructions, pull a glue coated plug through the hole, snip both sides so it sides even with the tire, grind the area on the inside down, coat it with glue, place a patch over it, and place sealant on the patch. If done properly, the repair will last the life of the tire.
>I've got a tire light on, and it won't go away?
If it's solid, then that means you just need to add, or remove air. If your light is flashing, that means your sensor is dying and may have to be replaced to remove the light.
>I need to replace my sensors in my tires, is it worth it?
In all honesty, no. At my store we charge $60-$100 per sensor. They are not important at all. I usually just give them to customers, if nobody else is around. If you want to get rid of that tire light, then you must replace the dead sensors.
***ASK THE TECHS TO SHOW YOU WHICH SENSORS ARE DEAD BEFORE PURCHASING***
>I aired up my tires, but my light is still on?
You may have to just reset the light.
Hondas, jeeps, and newer toyotas relearn on their own.
Fords, chevy's need to be taken to a tire shop to be relearned.
BMW's/Mercedes can be relearned on their own through the menu.
Continuing in next post.
Are normal tire shops allowed to sell motorsports rubber over there?
I asked several local tire suppliers here, but a few select motorsports companies have monopolized the market to the point where a local tire guy just simply isn't allowed to sell a racing slick even though he carries the brand.
Tire help cont.
>I'm feeling a vibration when I drive, what could it be?
Depending on the tires that you've got, it could be an uneven cupping in the tread which is causing the bumping. Or it could be that the tires are out of balance. I would suggest having them re balanced before taking it to an alignment shop, or replacing any parts in the front axle. Reason being, most places offer free rebalances. So if it is the balancing, you won't have to pay a large amount of money for nothing.
>Where do tires with the better tread go?
Most places will recommend that the tires with the best tread go on the rears, regardless of whether it's A/F/RWD. My store recommends placing them on the rear, to prevent over steering.
Even if stores recommend placing tires in a certain place, you could just request they be put on in a certain place.
>I've got a bubble in my tire, can it be fixed?
No, it cannot. That tire is dead now. Bubbles in tires usually come from hitting pot holes, rocks, or anything that you might hit in the road, replace the tire as soon as possible.
>>16660559
It really depends on the store, and what the company policy. My store is not allowed to SELL racing slicks, just because they deem them unsafe for daily driving, but we will mount, and balance them.

We can always hope
I found a 2007 4Runner SR5 that seems decent price (9500). It has 143k mi but seems to be in good condition. Can anyone tell me about 4runners and any tips buying one used?
Not much to say about them. Good cars overall. Some models even have genuine 4x4 option. The 4cyl version is slow as fuck but will get the job done. Based on the highlander/rav4 platform which is GOAT tier when it comes to comfort/utility/reliability.
I wouldn't pay $9,500 for it though. My 2010 Highlander with 68,000 miles was valued at $20k or so a few years back
Yes,
don't buy one with 143k mi.
>>16676343
>genuine 4x4 option
What does it mean to be "genuine" 4x4? I have heard this before, don't really understand.
Also, kbb lists the market value for the one I'm looking at at about 10500-12500, so 9500 seems decent. Why would your highlander be a good comparison?
Thanks for the replies so far.
