Do beam shields count as shields in this case? How many mobile suits have neither, cause I don't think there are many.

I find it weirder that ejection systems are so rare frankly. The pilots deserve that as much, if not more than a shield.

But Shields are the Redshirts of the Gundam Universe. They exist only to die so that you know how dire the situation is. They don't provide any actual protection until F91.

Logically speaking in universe it is easier to account for skills if you base it off a humanoid form.
Out of universe it is probably because the suits would be easier to make/wear, I think. Smaller and mostly identical to the Rider 1 suit = less cash spent on the suits = more cash for special effects.

Professor Midorikawa designed and built the Hopper/Rider type, while Shocker built the others.

So it'll be a wet dream for you. Granted, the English script gets clumsy from time to time, but that's not much different than usual.

I think it would be interesting if they made one from a squadrons point of view who's job it is to hunt down Wedge Antilles and the rest of Rogue Squadron, maybe have Luke do cameos on some of the bigger missions etc. Have the Imperials get thrashed constantly and lose a lot of men, but it would have to be done well as to humanize them. Make them people, not just Imperial soldiers.

Crusher Joe is a great fun 80's space adventure film. It's not high art or anything, but it's great for what it is. You should deffinitly check it out.

I feel like the only person who actually liked her character, her arc and her ending. She wasn't happy, but she was well set up and her unhappiness was of a transient nature. I don't know how her life would have turned out, but considering that she survived a war, became head of her family and was rich as well as well connected I don't think it'd have turned out badly once she finished getting over Loran.

Sochie was one of the few things in Turn A's story that I actually cared about. In a show full of caricatures she seemed really genuine and human, and I was really sad for her at the end. Other Tomino characters have gotten it much worse, of course, but it would have been nice to see at least a sliver of optimism, some new boy talking to her in the ending, anything other than her being enveloped in bitterness and throwing that fish in the river. It's normal to assume that she would eventually get over it and move on, but there's no hint of that in her ending.

Dougram in 26 episodes would have been pretty bad, I think. Too little time to expand on everything.

Gundam would have never taken off, for one, it practically needed 50 episodes in the first place, and yet it only got 43 and thus the final arc was a bit rushed.

Most 80s and 90s anime followed the 2 cour (24~26 episodes) story-arc format too. It's just that they are broadcasted continuously with a recap episode right in the middle. Stuff like Gundam 00 and Code Geass were essentially the same thing but with the 2 arcs broadcasted separately.

Rushed endings you see in Gundam 0079, Ideon, Layzner etc. are due to their 2nd story arc being written for 25-ish episodes but later being cancelled and forced to wrap things up in only 1 cour's length.
