Pretty good movie. Captain Phasam was a let down.
Agreed. All the other characters got their due, and she was in about 3 scenes and then disappeared. Still, fun film.

The saber duel at the end was godly.
Found it more fun than any of the PT that's for sure.
Also, even though I knew it was coming,Han's deathreally got to me. He was always my favourite of the OT cast.
So I've started rewatching Gundam from the beginning over the past couple of months- re-watched First Gundam, finished Zeta, and started watching ZZ. I'm almost finished with ZZ, but I think I'll be able to critique it to some degree-
I started watching ZZ immediately after Zeta, and a lot of people complain about the mood whiplash when they do so. To be honest, I thought the real whiplash came at the end of Zeta. That might just be a result of the non-standard pacing of Zeta- in First Gundam, the events leading up to the end were very clear, where the military operations as a whole led up to the invasion of A Baoa Qu, sort of like how Normandy led up to the invasion of Berlin(WWII is not my strong suit, so that's a more abstract comparison). Whereas the tension of Zeta led up to a victory against the Titans, and their being wiped out. In terms of the setting of a whole, I find Zeta and ZZ to be lacking, because they focus so much on the crew of the Argama/Nahel Argama, this ship that's part of a rebel organization, that we don't get as much of an idea of the whole conflict- either that, or the conflict as a whole is rather small. There's not as big an impact on the entire earth that Neo Zeon creates, even after dropping the colony on Dublin.
I'm sorry if it seems like I'm ranting/blogposting, I've had some drinks tonight.
I apologize for the unusual picture as well, I don't have a lot of ZZ-related pictures.
I thought the beginning of ZZ started out well- of course, the crew of the Argama had suffered a lot, but the kids at Shangri-La were just living their normal lives, and the Gryps Conflict had no bearing on them. Judau and crew's obsession with stealing the Zeta was strange- if it was so famous, who would buy it and corroborate their involvement in the theft of an important mobile suit?
But the overall tone of the opening arc was good, even great. It feels more like Xabungle than Gundam, and really lightens the mood after such a heavy ending for Zeta, with the death of Emma, Katz, the crew of the Radish, and the disappearance of Char. Believe me, Emma and Henken were my favorite characters and pairing in Z Gundam.
The only real whiplash for me came in episode 19/20 with the episodes where that one bridge guy's childhood friend operated as a spy for Zeon. It was really outta place so far, but then the more serious aspects of the series started happening, and when they did, I thought they were good for the most part.
Puru really comes off as a superfluous character, and it seemed like she only really existed as a way to introduce Puru Two and her clones as Glemy's Newtype Troops for his Beta Uprising. Leina's death ultimately seems pointless when it turns out she survives and Sayla's taking care of her, which is really out of place considering she was doing fuck-all during Zeta, which also really undermines Sayla's character as a whole. The episodes where the Gundam team was fighting their way up to Dakar were alright, 7/10 overall, but ultimately seemed like filler.
And again, now that I'm at episode 46 where Glemy's rebellion is underway and Neo Zeon's in a civil war, it feels sudden, even after his character development in the desert planted the seeds of him being an independent leader of Zeon- though really, there was a step or two that weren't present in the show that showed the jump to him declaring civil war.
cant wait for /m/ to be renamed "mecha anime" so tokushit and zz get filtered out
>>13646657
Alright, so I just got to the part where Bright meets Sayla and Leina, and I'm reminded of Acting-Captain Emaly. Her character was almost entirely 'gosh I sure do love Captain Bright,' but her character design was appealing. She really would have benefitted from an entire character arc, where she was told that Bright was married and had children, and was admonished for trying to pursue him. She dies in a sort of sudden way, if you can call it that when the episode she died in was named after her, but I think that could be an acceptable theme, where people die in a war all the time, and the way they develop as a human can't be helped or completed.

>it's not anime
You know, that's a real dumb way to consider ZZ not canon, unless you're a troll in which case whatever.
The opening song isn't about the show not being anime
>and therefore being exempt for discussion
but rather the idea of youth not being taken seriously by adults for what they have seen or believe in, which I think ties into Gundam's themes as a whole, where the younger generation has to overtake the older generation's beliefs and ideologies.
Why does the VF-25 only have thrusters in the feet? How does it accelerate in gerwalk.
Don't all of them only have thrusters in the feet?
>>13646126
No, just about every VF has back thrusters as well
very slowly
So how was 2015 /m/?
Not just in cartoons and toy commercials but in all things mechanical.
>in all things mechanical
I changed my car's oil.
Lots of Teyandee/Pizza Cats toys announced. That makes me happy.
Stop making shit threads.
Why in God's name does it need feathers in fucking space?

What the hell is that from? It kinda reminds me of the not-Shin Dragon from TTGL (which was also a wasted mech)

>Actually deals with real life philosophical issues relating to war such as the value of pacifism, whether history is written by the victors and do the ends justify the means while all of UC Gundam's philosophical are New Age mystic bullshit that has no basis in real life and will never come true.
Why does think Gundam Wing has nothing intelligent to say again?
>>13643687
It's like eating a hotdogs with fuckhuge stale bread.
You do get taste of that delicious sausage, but you keep chewing the bread for most of the time.
The soft drink (endless waltz)after that tastes good though.

>You do get taste of that delicious sausage
Wing in a nutshell
>>13643687
Because a lot of people like it. If I like something casuals like that means my taste is shit, so I'll have to pretend to hate it even though I enjoyed it.
Hmm that was a nice ending.
.....
Wait, what is that?
DID XING KE GET KEKED? WHAAAT? HAHAHAHAHAHA HOLY SHIT.
YOU LOST YOUR LOLI PRINCESS. WHY? DID HE DIE FROM HIS ILLNESS?
>>13643203
Wasn't Xing Ke dying of some poisoning anyway?
Then again, it seems more like Gino just photobombed chinaloli's photoshoot going by the reactions of the others in the image.
I'm starting to think Gino is just trying to start his own harem.

ha what a fucking manlet
What are your thoughts on Lynn Minmay's music?
>>13643056
Silver Moon is the only one I really liked.
It's ok. Not the weakest of the Macross songs. That honor belongs to Planet Dance.
>>13643056
Lacus Clyne > Lynn Minmay
The only Macross idol worth listening to when I'm not watching the show/movie she's in is Sharon Apple.
I want to get into Gundam, but I have no idea where to start. Should I start with 0079? 00? Zeta?
>>13643029
Production order. Always, ALWAYS, production order. If you do it in any other order, you'll, and I'm assuming this because this happens to a lot of anime fans who are relatively new, have whiplash because of the difference in visual quality and other details.
I think the best way is production order, because you see how the franchise gradually developed, with the AUs, and the change from series to series seems more natural. It's like walking up a stair case one step at a step, instead of jumping up two, then jumping down three, then jumping up four, then jumping down 5.
>>13643059
>le production order meme
Just watch whatever interests you the most.

also, are there any of the gundam series I should avoid?
I've watched F91, Victory and G-Saviour. Is there anything Late UC related that I can get? Being it a novel or a manga.
Damn I wish there was more Late UC shows showing what happened between F91 and Victory.

>In particular, the comments of director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost In The Shell) received significant attention, when in a mail magazine sent out at the beginning of December, he criticized Evangelion for being “all style and no substance.” He goes on to say that it's “an endless repetition of stereotypes and facsimiles of things we've seen elsewhere,” and that Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno “has no themes or motifs.” He draws comparisons between Anno and another acclaimed anime director, Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro), saying that while Miyazaki and Anno are similar in their earnestness, Miyazaki seems to be confident living in the “real world,” while Anno is more confident outside it.

I love Oshii to death but no, he's wrong.
