/fit/'s is better, objectively. Ours appears very incomplete and is very entry level. Basically stolen from Bloom.

Bloom doesn't even have Eastern literature, much less the genre fiction or non-fiction that we have.

The contemporary recs are also much different than what he prefers.

This, /fit/ sticky changes people's lives, ours is awful aside from the link to bookzz, which if you get out of meme tier and summer lit reading is woefully inadequate.

I'm going to pretend you bought Jelinek because I made a thread abut it some week ago, and feel pride in that.
You're very welcome, OP.

Tao Lin used to browse this website , did he?

Besides that, for any published writers here (including self published) what is your opinion on the current Publishing Industry and how it receives non-commercial writing. Also ,what are (if any) your irks with Publishers/Literary Agents or things that you'd do differently ?

My opinion is that it doesn't receive that sort of writing at all now. Agents and publishers are only willing to take "risks" on authors who've already established themselves in one way or another, so you practically never get anything that actually goes against the grain these days unless it's either self-published or put out by some random indie publisher (arguably worse than Self-publishing because they tend to have a far smaller reach).
>>
>>8435418

Well I'm not sure I see a problem with this. Most great writers had to start with writing normal, unrevolutionary, marketable material.

If I were a publisher and some 25 year old handed me the next Ulysses I would most likely shrug him off because it'd sell 3 copies from a 10,000 book batch. He could first write a generic novel and sell 5000 copies, then a good normal novel and sell 50,000 and then after that I would consider publishing his wank tissues between hard covers.

Anyone who self-publishes ought to kill themselves, honestly.

What the fuck do I include? Could you help me out here? Some cool pictures or whatever

>I have to create a mood board

a what?

ITT: Shit books that inspired good movies

Pic related: the Shining
#SPOILERS#
The book was cliche ghost story in which Jack goes mad only because a evil ghost possesses him! It was enormously long (650 pages the media I have) filled with insignificant detail that didn't even contribute to the mood. It had repetitive chapters, and possibly the lamest ending he could've possibly written.

The movie was instead a story about a troubled ex-alcoholic writer slowly losing his sanity with his retarded kid and awful depressing nagging bitch wife. It didn't imply any paranormal activity in the hotel, it was all a psychological horror. The ending was also superior.

It's trying to get you to suffer the psychological problems via almost media-like subliminarity

Is the nature of morality objective or subjective? or can it be that it can be considered as partaking in both?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Subjective. If you believe in God you might think morality is objective, but that's stupid.
>>
>>8435231

Interesting, I had this conversation with a person who was a Christian and they kept pressing the notion that even when we think our morals are derived subjectively they are in truth objective mainly because the person is fundamentally ignorant to the objective nature of morality, basically the general Christian idea.

I also would like to know what it is when we are referring to objectivity and subjectivity, specifically with morality, certainly not all objective moral systems have to adhere to a God? at least not the stereotypical Christian God.
>>
All things are subjective, can you perceive anything without the existence of you as a subject?

No, if yes, I'd like some of that shit you're smoking too, unless you're a heavy practitioner of meditation in which case I'd ask you if your ashram would sponsor my Permanent Residency: 100% authentic Indian, can add market value to your programme.

What does /lit/ think of the Starship Troopers novel? I'm on page 180 and enjoying it.

Meh, bad philosophy disguised as a novel. Nothing ever happens.

This actually does belong in the thread for shit books turned into good movies.

Insects! Space! Bewbs! Rico!

I really enjoyed it. Heinlein is top tier sci fi and this is one of his best in my opinion.

Not a ton of action, but still a breeze. I'm told Armor is Starship Troopers but with more action.
>>
Forever War sends a stronger message and, in my opinion, is better written.

i am, or would be, if i was actually writing the damn thing.

do you find that writing a book is a fruitless endeavor? especially in a technologically saturated society such as this? i do. even if i am underestimating the enthusiasts of literature, anybody can write a book these days. what's the point?
>>
>>8435106
>>8435110
How old are you guys?

Everyone can write a book but few can get published by traditional publishers, which is my intention. Self-publishing sci-fi shit is relatively easy as long as you don't mind sacrificing subtlety and tenderness for the sake of car chases and gunfights ever three pages.

Did you mean
>Aujord'hui, maman est mort
Today, mother died

I read a new yorker article about the slight difficulty of translating that sentence to fit properly. Is "Maman died today" actually what's in some English editions?
>>
>>8435011
yep
>>
>>8435011
English is such a fucked up language in many ways.

The real difficulty is the whole no translation of maman really.
