Book I'm going to be studying for English class.
Should I be dreading it or excited?
>>8433580
You should be dreading attending class at your shit school
Read it for a uni class, was excited bcuz it won Pulitzer, but I didn't really like it. Not an awful book, just not deserving of all the hype imo
I had this same book assigned to me last semester, and of all of the assigned readings I had then, and in that semester I had over 20 books on that list, this was my favorite. Still one of my favorite books. Read it in both Spanish and English. You'll like it, I'm sure; especially if you frequent 4chan.

Sexist, racist, classist garbage.
It should be removed from all schools and teachers that teach it should be reeducated in a more diversity-conscious curriculum.
What book should a person read who is utterly disappointed with the age they live in? Technological utopia, ease and access of today a shadow of what lays ahead. The misunderstanding and ignorance, the emptyness and lack of aesthetic beauty of the age we live in, the lack of really powerful intricate messages which seem to transcend the point a to point b meaning, and tear open a 4 dimensional rift of intellectual thought. I feel so bored, I feel so miserable, I want to become immortal.
A book which tells the reader to stop his bitching

Just ask /a/ about series with a plot deeper than schoolgirls drinking tea and/or with frequent literature references.
Additionally open an account on Letterboxd and find some "Japanese animation" list.
Do you think philosophy will become impossible in the future? I mean, in natural sciences there is a constant process of pruning the old ideas so that students only have to learn the contemporary state of their field but in philosophy thinkers that lived more than 2000 years ago are still important and engaging with their writings is necessary for any philosophy student. So in the future there will be such an extensive body of knowledge that no one will be able to work throught it in his lifetime.

Don't know about the rest of your dumb post, but this is wrong. Physics students still learn Newton, because his equations are approximately correct and are simpler to use when describing phenomena that isn't relativistic and so on and so on.
Philosophy has more or less been chosen to discuss only topics that are too general to be delimited in a field of its own (and then leave philosophy, like the sciences and a few of the humanities), so I disagree with the more knowledge equating less interest in the field. Our most instinctual questions will remain there, no matter how much we advance in specialized knowledge, and for the most part they are philosophic questions.
Well /lit/, it's that time again. The Critique-My-Writing Thread. EROTIC EDITION.
An erotic story is different from a literary one, different from genre fiction as well. So let's see what you got!
I'll start. Let me know what you think:
The party had hardly started when Janine asked Michael to come up to her room with her. Michael got up off the couch and Sakshi smiled at him under her solo cup. Thomas and Avi both whistled. Rolling his eyes, Michael left his friends, who were still sipping their first beers, and headed up the stairs with Janine. When she closed the door to her room behind them, she spoke curtly.
“Stand still.”
Janine unfastened his belt, pulled it out from the loops of his jeans, and let it drop to the floor. He wasn’t expecting an inspection that day, but he felt he had nothing to worry about. He was mildly annoyed that he had been interrupted mid-conversation with Donnie and he was eager to return downstairs. After undoing his button and fly, Janine thrust Michael’s jeans down in a single movement. He was wearing the panties she had assigned him over text that morning – an old pair of hers, pink and several sizes too small. His cock was locked tightly in its cage. The sour demeanor she had assumed vanished and she gripped it in her fingers.
“Very good. I shouldn’t have doubted you. Remind me, when is the last time I let you cum?”
“About a week ago, Janine,” he responded in a steady voice.
“And do you think I’m gonna let you out tonight?”
“If I behave myself.”
A broad smile came over her face. “That’s right, Mikey. But I’ll be keeping an eye on you. Pull your pants up and leave your fly undone. You can also leave the belt up here in case I need to correct your behavior later.”
Michael complied, keeping his eyes trained on her as he dressed himself.
“Now let’s head back downstairs,” she said, holding his chin in her hand before kissing his lips and exiting the room.
He followed at a delayed pace.
Sorry about the gross spacing in the OP. Amending it now.
For at least the first hour, the party was unremarkable. The Bushwick apartment was small, and the group of friends stood or sat drinking in a tight circle around the keg they had ordered. Band posters and flyers for shows decked the walls, and one upbeat punk song followed another on Sakshi’s stereo.
“Like we’re in a fucking frat,” Donnie remarked.
But then the topic of conversation came to center on Sakshi and the relationship she had just ended.
“So tell us, Sakshi,” Avi cooed, “whatever happened to that white boy you were dating.”
Sakshi downed her beer and set the cup on a table. “Funny you should ask. We don’t talk anymore. Peter was nice, but I got the feeling he was only into me for my ass.”
“Who wouldn’t be?” Donnie quipped to light snickers.
“Well, I have a sparkling personality, too, dick.” Sakshi stuck her tongue out at Donnie. “Anyway, he was always staring at it whenever we were out, and he’d fondle me in the most embarrassing places. So one day we were lying in bed and he said something to me about my ass, I don’t remember what, and it pissed me off so I said, ‘You like it so much, have it.’ I crawled on top of him and plopped myself down on his face. At first I could tell he enjoyed it because of the little white bulge in his boxers, but then he started struggling for air and I could feel him try to gasp beneath my undies. His mouth was opening and closing against my cheeks. So I just pressed down harder and rubbed my foot up and down his dick. Soon he was scratching at my thighs, but I just held down his wrists and asked him what was wrong, I thought he liked my ass. I was a real bitch, I started to wiggle it around and I stroked his dick faster and faster. I might have kicked him in the balls a few times, too,” she said with a laugh.
Her audience was enraptured.
“So, what happened?” asked Janine.
>>8433390
“Well, he passed out. The little bitch.” Sakshi took a deep swig of her beer before continuing: “When he stopped moving I rolled off of him. He was out cold, but he was breathing slowly. I figured the least I could do was finish him, so I pulled down his boxers and jerked him off till he came all over his stomach. He woke up in twenty minutes or so and I could tell that he was confused, so I greeted him like nothing was wrong. ‘What’s up, assman?’ I asked. He sat up in bed and felt the cum on his stomach with his hand. ‘Did I pass out?’ he asked. I said, ‘Yeah, and you made a mess of my sheets, too, you fucking pervert.’ And get this, he actually apologized. Well, after that, he started begging me to knock him out, I swear. He asked me to tie him to the bed, to wear all sorts of different underwear, to put his nose up my asshole. And every time I would make him cum after he went unconscious. He actually liked to wake up with his own cum smeared all over himself, so I started putting it on his face while he slept.”
“Jesus fucking Christ, Sakshi,” Thomas said with a wretch. He finished his beer and immediately started pouring himself another.
“Yeah, well, it wasn’t long before it started getting old. He didn’t even want to fuck me anymore. He just wanted me to sit on his face and jerk him off. So one day I decided to break up with him. But I’m not good at breaking up with boys, I always feel bad and stop halfway through the speech. So instead I was gonna make him break up with me. It was just a few nights ago. We drank for a little bit and then he asked to be tied to the bed. ‘Sure, baby,’ I told him. ‘Just take off your clothes.’ After he got naked and I had tied his wrists and ankles to the bed posts, he asked me what I was gonna wear. ‘Nothing,’ I said, ‘tonight you’re getting my bare ass.’ He seemed pretty happy about it, and before I sat down on him I made him kiss each cheek over and over again. I liked to raise myself up and force him to strain for it. The whole time he just went on and on about how much he loved my ass and how much he didn’t deserve it and blah, blah, blah.”
“What a loser,” Thomas interrupted, halfway through his next beer.
“Shut up,” Avi shushed him, putting a finger to his lips. “What happened next?”
>>8433392
“I finally decided to plop myself down and he immediately started struggling against his binds and sucking up every bit of air he could get down there. I didn’t even have to touch him and his little dick was erect. I had timed it before, and he usually lasted about four minutes before he passed out, so three and half minutes in I said, ‘Hey baby, I wanna try something new,’ and I started pissing all over his face.”
The room erupted in laughter and Thomas put his face in his hands in disgust.
“Really, I just kept letting it out, I could feel his face getting wet against my ass. He was really flailing around then, but I had tied him down so tight that he couldn’t shake me. I must have pissed for a minute straight. You should have seen how fast his little boner went down. I think he went unconscious a little before I finished. When I stood up he started breathing again and driblets of pee went right up his nostrils. He was fucking dripping all over and it was getting on my sheets. I decided I’d get him off one last time, for his sake, but this time I jerked him off with his boxers in my hand so he’d have to walk home with cum in his underwear.”
“You fucking witch,” Avi laughed.

Meursault is my fav character for sure because my fav thing in books is mundane events, and his book is full to the brim of it. Every chapter is like one of those novelty pet rocks, you open the book & POP you get a face fulla boredom and you fall back asleep. The mad mind, the crack genius, to do it! and then you think hmmm whats he gonna do next, this great mind, and you pick the book back up and BLAM you get a shot to the face and Hahahahahah you've been shot again by old Meursault, that card. "Woops, I was looking at the sun!" he says, half-conscious. Watch him as he takes his mom's corpse and displays her for you- left, right, center- "you think she died today? Or yesterday???" Pulls out a calendar. "Ah!" Hand to naughty mouth. And you're on your ass again getting sleepy as his head snaps on the guillotine and rolls off right.
Do great writers need to have a hiqh IQ? Seeing how imagination and intelligence is connected i started to wonder if maybe, empathy and others qualities that make a writer great are not related to IQ as well. What do you think /lit/? Do you know of any great writer who wasn't that smart?
>>8433311
I dunno, but I know of many people are are "smart" but aren't great writers.
It's dependent on the story they're writing surely? I imagine a historical novel dealing with politics and other sorts of drama would require an educated and reasonably smart writer to capture the essence of what they're writing about. But something more personal, like a memoir, could be written by any old chump (see Bukowski)
