>A deconstruction of the Vampire genre
What would it look like? Most vampires in literature are portrayed as noble and romantic beings, I think a deconstruction would portray them as demons and monsters that suffer from a sickness disguised by their air of nobility.
Sounds interesting write it myan
That just sounds like a return to the old Romanian and Transylvanian folk tales. Vampires are ugly, feral beasts in those stories, the spawn of demons and the Devil, and there's nothing charming about them.

Sounds like someone needs to read I Am Legend. Please don't ever watch the abortion of a film.
What makes it so good? Why is this THE children's book?
Does it feel like a dream?
>>8431428
Maybe because it's a patrician's choice in children's books

It's been my favorite book for many years now. I just fell in love with the childishly curious voice Alice has in reaction to the absurd situations she finds herself in. Has there been a spiritual successor to Alice in Wonderland yet? It's kind of one of my dreams to write one, where a young girldies, but forgets what happened to her, so she goes on a journey through an etheric afterlife filled with gods and other spirits gathering pieces of her memory before confronting God.
Anything wrong with this edition?
What do you guys think of this book? Favorite parts?
Not that good. Way way way way way too british
Funny, accessible, way too long,
I thought that when he introduced the three main dudes at the start that I wouldn't be able to sit through 800 pages of them and their shenanigans.
Can anyone recommend me a wartime book about a city under siege or controlled by an oppressive regime? Something like Victor Serge's revolutionary novels, the first part of Vargas Llosa's Conversación en la Catedral about Zavalita's failed student insurgency, Jean-Pierre Melville's Army of Shadows. I want to read something like the Warsaw uprising or the Farrell novels.

Let's settle it once and for all. Is it genius, garbage or something else entirely?
It's an entry-level /lit/ meme. That's for sure.

What the fuck? Those two brother faggots must have been the worst teachers in Athens, they just want to look smart and don't have any real opinions to offer. Fuck, half you fags do the same shit.
They're not even real characters. It's all to make Plato's ideas seem agreeable
>>8431314
They sure seemed stupid to me, so I guess Plato did pretty good.
Why did Socrates want Crito and himself to get classes from there though, was he trying to make them look bad like that harp player he was taking lessons from?
>>8431271
In that case, you should be thanking us all for making you seem so much smarter.

I've read some reviews saying there's some text missing in this edition (namely, a conversation before "Fourth interlude" in part 2). Is it true?
>>8431260
B&N are no only ugly (I guess you like this one) but they also tend to be as low quality as possible.
I read the Bantam Spectra single books and I can tell you they're cheap and the letters are so easy to read that I fell in love with them.
>>8431318
They're beautiful and high quality for the price. You're not answering my question.
>>8431260
the bait is a tad too subtle friendo
those who can speak french, do you think this novel is too difficult to understand for someone that got through L'Étranger? I also ordered Bel-Ami in french, which I heard is easier than Stendhal. Can I read it after finishing Bel-Ami?
also: amazon reviews show that some alternate version of the text has issues with wrong words, etc. Folio should be good, yeah?
>>8431229
If you read that, you can go with Stendhal no problem.
Great book too.
>>8431229
I think you'll have your own answer after reading Bel Ami. The language in Bel Ami isn't particularly difficult, but the sentence structure is more complex than L'Etranger. and will prove more of a challenge. Don't feel bad if you want to read a few more works more on the level of Bel Ami before you do Le Rouge et le Noir.
Folio should be fine, I've never really noticed an issue. They are pretty cheap paperbacks though, and come with the issues associated with that ie easily damaged, pages where it looks like they overinked or something, etc.
hm, I found this edition in an NYU course syllabus so i'll just take that as an OK on the Folio. I do have a Folio so I know they're kinda flimsy but whatever.
>>8431246
True, I will probably know better then. Would any Zola, maybe Germinal or La Bête Humaine be on Bel-Ami level? or if not can I get a suggestion or two?
Why do people actually like this guy?
Seems like just another way to justify typical lazy and destructive nihilism to me.
Does he make you feel special?
I guess that's the joke
They're all frauds

>Seems like just another way to justify typical lazy and destructive nihilism to me.
Ha! As if they'd actually go that far! Read his biography and everything will become clear.
What's the word for 'compositionally'? like 'of composition.
pic unrelated.

How do you make a smoothie like that?
>>8431376
1 cup chopped ripe mango
1/2 cup low-fat milk
1/2 cup ice
1/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1 tablespoon honey
Directions
Place the mango, milk, ice, yogurt, and honey in a blender.
Blend until smooth and frothy.
>>8431210
The word you used would be comprehensible, but it wouldn't be anesthetic or easily digested. I'd just say "in terms of composition". Far more tasteful, mate.
Just read pic related. There's only three words in the English vocabulary that even remotely describe my feelings towards it.
>Hella fucking epic
