Sorry, lines* not rhymes. Though rhyming is also a formal poetic constraint which is neither bad nor good, and beings equally to bad poetry and to good.

What is prose poetry?

However that may be, it is important to state that my red blood no longer flows there. Two little hedgehogs, which have stopped growing, threw the inside of my testicles to a dog, who did not turn up his nose at it: and they lodged inside the carefully washed epidermis. My anus has been penetrated by a crab; encouraged by my sluggishness, he guards the entrance with his pincers, and causes me a lot of pain! Two medusae crossed the seas, immediately enticed by a hope which was not disappointed. They looked attentively at the two fleshy parts which form the human backside, and, clinging on to their convex curve, they so crushed them by constant pressure that the two lumps of flesh have disappeared, while two monsters from the realm of viscosity remain, equal in color, shape, and ferocity. Do not speak of my spinal column, as it is a sword... Yes, yes... I was not paying attention... your request is a fair one. it's kind of quaint to see all those lines that never amounted to much, but you felt them to be worthwhile regardless because they signify that you actually did something one day

Well whenever I try something like this I just end up indulging in my own insanity- but I hear other people find it a healthy emotional outlet that allows them to make sense of their lives and where they want to be so... idk anon, at very least it can be a fun read for your therapist.

you short-attention-span people need to realize that unlike reading online, where you're flitting from thing to thing to thing, your attention will deepen as you read, and it may take two or three pages before you adjust and become entranced

dont just read a paragraph and go "ah, fuck, im not getting into it" and toss it aside

reading is a trance state, and it takes time to enter it

I found that there were a few good reading strategies that I learned from this book. But all in all, I wouldn't waste my time.

the rear end of this anthology is a section called Poetics where all the great poets of yesteryear write about what poetry is, why it exists, and how one goes about creating it. more or less a handydandy handbook of artistry. for me, it was the most bang for my buck.

True, but the same could be said about reading in general, that everyone who reads has banded together by the psuedo-literarate-intellectual-complex and now thinks lower of anyone who doesn't read. Since all "true" definitions of what something is or isn't stem from the larger beliefs of a community or society, then it makes sense thay a community of people who often read books and prides themselves on their abilities to properly critique could define what a "good" book is. That is not to say the subjective opinion of an individual is incorrect, moreover it just cannot be applied aptly to a group outside oneself.

Disagree, people involved in literature are involved in academia so they would not use "joy" as a metric to evaluate a work (however very frequently people involved in a field will find joy in works that have literary qualities). If joy were the metric then bestseller's lists would be the focus of academic thought and research.

Not being involved in academia I would guess that they focus on content such as the flow of sentences to paragraphs and paragraphs to chapters, depth and development of characters, attention to overall form, using descriptive language effectively, developing motifs and combining all of these things to effectively express yourself.

This isn't the case however, while goodness does have obstruction inherent in it in literary critique, it is not at all as centra as you would expect from an attitude chiefly concerned with cutting oneself off from others.
