When I posted in /critique/

Just read the massive clusterfuck of inane fantasy diarrhea known as the hunter's blades trilogy. What a fucking stinker, /lit/. I honestly enjoyed some of Salvatore's earlier work but reading this new one... I couldn't believe how phoned-in and repetitive all three books are.

So I did what I usually do when I thoroughly hate a piece of media... I read reviews online in the hopes that my curmudgeonly ire will be commiserated. What did I find? 4.5/5 stars, 5/5 stars, "excellent read" "thrilling", etc. etc. Do people not even understand what makes a good book anymore?

Please, good anons, don't let me down like those mouthbreathers on amazon. Tell me there's some of you out there who've read these books and seen them for the uninspired drivel they are.

(I know i've offered no real criticism here, just bitching. If this thread gets any response I'll be happy to let you all know just why these books are a steaming load of dogshit...)

Holy fuck, where do you think you are? I'm not even mad, I'm just amazed by the boldness that you think you can waltz in here and post a paragraph review of a Forgotten Realms "novel" and there's not a single hint of it being a shitpost. What the actual fuck.
>>
>>8993861
I dunno? Is it not okay to discuss fantasy here? This is the only board to post about any lit so I figured this is where I'd post it? (Waltz or no...)

Did I just buy a meme guys?

Norwegian Wood is a great song. I listened to it earlier and thought about my ex-girlfriend. It helped revive me from my malaise, even if just for more sadness. The book has the opposite effect.
>>
it's too bland to be a meme. Although, you probably just spent 10 bucks and 7 hours for a couple boners.
>>
I haven't read Norwegian Wood but I have read a fair bit of Murakami. He's a bit of a meme but an enjoyable one, like wojak.

With what pen or pencil does /lit/ write?

Are fountain pens /lit/?

I use one because it makes me feel a bit more phenomenologically connected to the past and the continentals and my greatest friend: Hegel. But mainly because i'm a giant pseud.

The dove is light and navigates peacefully through the world,
the sword of war is heavy,
and with a single strike tips the scales for which the doves have nested,
sending the doves into flight.
Guilt will drive us mad.
From madness we will scratch at truth.
From truth we will plunge into sanity,
from sanity we will regress into madness.
There is no escape, there is no winning.
There is no honor, there is no greed, but for the living.
There is no justice, there is no savior.
There is only the cold slate of madness
slipping through the hollow void
and the mad ape riding with nails dug into truth.
Mouth agape and teeth searing at whiplash.
The gods watch us with envy.
The gods watch us in callous disposal of themselves.
They have no weight, no scales.
They watch us in envy.
We are envied.

The gods laugh, no, chuckle, no, grimice, no cringe, at your pom pom foolery,
to think a petty mortal can speak a wise word or a few more than two,
what do ye know about justice, or weight,
how long have you carried the weight of wars and worlds
how much light have you brought forth, from the dark depths of eternities,
cavernous heartless heart,
what is a dove, or a million, to love, one, or many, might ask, or not
who is guilty for what and why
you are not envied, unless the word pitied hath been changed over night
the gods watch, as a tv attracts in times of boredom, when the thousand hour night seems to want of winding down
the gods envy...from from sanity regression into madness
the gods envy that?
the fallible follyful foibles of fucking fartly-fanciful fools?
a weakness as strong as that
all of you together could not lift the scales of justice what you would call an inch
much less her majesties dress
the gods have lived your life a thousand times a thousand thousand times before you were born
they only get younger
I will give you a tip
said I speaking to the scales
Law is not a haught firey flame
there is just ice
and it is sand running through your veins

Anyone read this? It's getting lambasted for racism and stereotyping - but also for prose; but only by the people who are going at it w/r/t racism - so I'm thinking it might be legitimately interesting? It's just there are no excerpts.

From the first sentence of the summary I didn't give a fuck about this book. Leave it to rot with the rest of the trash.

Why was Meursault found guilty? He stood his ground while he felt threatened by the Arab. This would be an open and shut case in the USA. Was it only because he was an edgelord? Please explain to an Amerifat.

Are these books essential reading?
37 posts and 5 images submitted.

Depends on the person. Those books obviously wouldn't be essential to someone interested only in philosophy.
In terms of fantasy and world-building, those are considered essential by most, yes.
>>
>>8992709
The Hobbit is better in my opinion. You should read it first for sure.
>>
>>8992720
I like fantasy and world-building but never got into Tolkien because I don't like the fans.

Some day will try to read it again, but every one that loves it is a D&D nerdlord.
