What people don't realize is how much religion costs. They think faith is a big electric blanket, when of course it is the cross. It is much harder to believe than not to believe. If you fell you can't believe, you must at least do this: keep an open mind. Keep it open toward faith, keep wanting it, keep asking for it, and leave the rest to God.

I spend all of this time on the internet defending Catholicism and I don't even believe in God anymore. I legitimately have spent hours talking at lengths the basis for Catholic dogma and trying to get people to understand. I have told people to pray the rosary and see how they feel after that.

It's not for fun, either. I truly want them to believe. I want them to save themselves, but I don't know why I do it. It's not to convince myself, because I don't think I believe anymore. I haven't been to mass regularly in years, now. Nor have I taken any of the other Sacraments, but for some reason, something inside me makes me do this.

I know that if I died now, and I'm wrong, my sins are too good to save me. I feel like there's a part of me that wants to go back, but I can't because I know I'm going to fail again. My whole life has been cycles of me losing my faith and coming back and losing again. Every time I come back I know I'm just going to lose it again. What's the point?

You're a fucking fool. If God exists, he's not with the Catholic church.

Is this supposed to be hard to read?
14 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I don't know if it's supposed to be, but it can be difficult in a first read, mainly because Woolf's syntax is quite dense.

Just read it slowly and calmly, and pay attention to detail but not so much that you end up losing yourself in the labyrinth that are her sentences.
>>
woah it's not hard for you? Holy shit, you're a genius!
>>
>>8997919
Hah, I can see how you thought that's what I mean, but I actually meant it as in "this is really difficult, is it supposed to be this hard?"

even if you're typing, I'm going to say that it's already taken you like 10 minutes to attempt to think up something interesting about your life so....no, it's not worth writing about.

Irrespective of what he says, OP is a great faggot.

I didn't care for it, it kind of goes way beyond the realm of believably.

For one, everyone reacts to the main character like he's the best guy on the planet, he's just so great everyone wants to help him. He never does anything really good, or does anything that doesn't help himself out most. That's pretty telling, he's basically just telling this bizarre story of who he sees himself being.

So, is there any writing that could give me purely, not incidentally, an insight into what it means to be human? I don't mean in some larger sense, but describes being human in an extremely relatable way, and sheds light on a way to understand the experience better.

Virginia Woolf and Dostoyevsky
say Mrs. Dalloway & To the Lighthouse and Crime and Punishment & Bros K
>>
>>8997808
I find bother writers rather daunting. Woolf is difficult to read, and dostoyevsky, while not being that difficult, and being plainly written, takes a tole on me mentally, I find it very intense.

I've recently have gotten into reading Dystopian fiction, and have read Animal Farm and Fahrenheit 451. So i ask is 1984 actually good, and should I read it? Also are there any other novels that you would recommend?

Brave New World is often thrown around with 1984.

It's good. Though, Brave New World resonates more with current reality.

I went a month without reading and now I'm having trouble starting again. I played vidya most of that month and now my concentration while trying to read is complete garbage. I spent the morning/noon walking, then had work in the afternoon/evening, so I'm mostly keeping away from the screen during the day. Does this help, just keeping away from the tv/computer? Is there more I can do? Also it's hard to tell if I'm just bored by the book.

>'vidya'

Please stop. You are a grown man.
>>
>>8997752
Start with an "easy" read. Maybe even a YA book. It could help you start to pay better attention, and soon you'll be able to read harder works.
>>
>>8997775
That's the thing, I'm reading a short, fairly easy book ("Picnic Under Hanging Rock") but I can't tell if I'm just bored of it or if it's my concentration. Also started and dropped Titus Groan. Before my month of abstinence I read Labyrinths, didn't have much of a concentration issue.

Playing it? Yes I am trying to mostly remove it from my life.

Why is south american literature so superior to north american literature if spics have lower iq?

Lower IQ; more creative
>>

face it, the white male is simply superior
>>

But south american are more european than the burgers lmao.

I'll start

Rêve d'Eschyle éclos au climat des autans;

Sim, verdadeiramente altas e nobres e lúcidas -,
Ainda que não more nela;
Serei sempre o que não nasceu para isso;
Serei sempre só o que tinha qualidades;
E cantou a cantiga do Infinito numa capoeira,
Conquistamos todo o mundo antes de nos levantar da cama;
Mas acordamos e ele é opaco,
Levantamo-nos e ele é alheio,
Saímos de casa e ele é a terra inteira,
Mais o sistema solar e a Via Láctea e o Indefinido.

only superficially and only if the book gets popular enough.

Nobody will really give a fuck unless he can use that as a way to show to others personal virtues or moral positions.

Anyone got any good books on early Islam? Especially on warfare, expansion and society etc.

Historical fiction also appreciated.

Can't really find any good such books anywhere, why haven't the likes of Gore Vidal, Gene Wolfe or Conn Iggulden written any good well researched gritty historical fiction epics on this subject?

Is it too haram for write about it? Not pc? You'd think the expansion of the Muslims would be as good of a place to write some great historical fiction books as the Romans or the Mongols.

Straight up history books or historical fiction.

I don't know if this is the same book with a different title, but Usama Ibn Munqidh's "The Book of Centemplation: Islam and the Crusades" is really interesting. Don't just read the title off as politically charged, the writer was an actual veteran of the crusades, but has a very strange view of the whole thing.
