other guns with 80s are glocks, 10/22s, and aks. the thing about an 80 is you have to be able to get the rest of the parts. you are not going to find an 80 luger or something.
from a cost standpoint it is not worth it at all. the reason people do 80 is, its illegal to buy legally, muh ghostgun, or shits and giggles where you did it to do it and dont care that you spent 3times more than just buying one.
jigs are reccomended but not required. if you have a machine shop with a mill you dont need it. think of a jig like a template if you have it and follow instructions you cant fuck up. if you have no jig but can measure you can make something functional but it will be ugly as fuck or fucked up in 1 area where you got careless. a jig is simply a way to hold the part.
additionally 80 1911s are stupid as fuck since its an aluminum frame. if you are going to waste time building a 1911 do it properly.

Because the prevailing military doctrine of the time didn't want it. Generals wanted to maximize the range of each individual solider, and this meant bolt actions with huge .30 or .40 caliber rounds. This worked well with their pre-modern battlefield tactics, which WW1 made obsolete in 1918. Additionally it should be said that another weapon, the pump-action shotgun, proved equally devastating in this role because while tube mag guns are a pain to reload a shooter could pump off 8+ shots while someone armed with a bolt action would still be second or third turn. It goes to demonstrate how important ergonomics are (pump vs bolt).

Automatic weapons are tricky to get just right and metal stamping was a very recent invention, so almost all weapons were still milled. Production lines take time to set up and then you're taking materials away from other line just as or more important. There were automatic weapons that used pistol calibers before the MP 18 (pic related), but the MP 18 was the the first one to nail the concept.

I thought i saw one looking for a 308 win t3x. Tikkas weird. In 6.5 creedmoor ive never seen a light, they are all CTRs and the barrels are usually threaded while in 308 win almost all the t3x's are lites and none have threaded barrels.
Annoying as fuck, especially considering the only reason to buy a 308 over a creedmoor is to load subsonic and put a can on. I stilll cant believe how quiet that shit is.
