>non lethal.

If its' throw able but non lethal, it isn't a good weapon. if it's throw able and a good weapon, it's lethal.

A balloon full of bear mace is the closets you're getting.

Sup /k/, crossposter from /tg/ here with a question about the ever-divisive Damascus Steel. To clarify, I'm talking the high-carbon Crucible Steel (AKA Wootz Steel) imported from India and forged into swords in Damscus where they went all over the known world, not pattern-welding used in 18th century gun-barrels and knives from the same area.

My question is, while there is plenty about the famous Damascus Steel blades, is there any evidence of Damascus Steel armor, or armor from another Crucible steel? Would the extra flexibility be a drawback as plate or chain, or would the strength of the metal make the force needed to deform it too high for that to be a concern? I've heard that Tsar Michael had a "Bulat" steel helmet made for him in 1621, and some people have theorized that Bulat was very similar or the same, but how well would it have worked?

>And no, Wootz Steel isn't "just" Crucible, some modern steels are better, but for its time the strength, sharpness, and flexibility were astonishing. It still has not been reproduced because th exact processes that produced the steel, such as plants used to add trace elements, the hardening and tempering process, and whatever caused those plant additives to produce natural goddamn carbon nanotubes has been lost.

Yes, there are plenty of examples for Indo-Persian armor made from wootz, lately I saw a Persian helmet from the Markes collection made from wootz. Also there are shields made from wootz and the common 4 mirror armour.
It was simply a high end material of the time, a good steel and it makes good armour, which should have some flex anyways. Since it was metallurgically uniform it was comparatively easy to hammer it into plates, however, bigger pieces needed two or more wootz cakes firewelded together.
Might as well ask on /his/ usually they are better than the /k/ plebs for antiques and such.
>>
There are Asiatic sets of armor made, but i've never seen armor made in Europe out of the stuff.
>>
>>32314361
I would like to point out that "extra flexibility" does not mean Damascus steel bends more for a given load. The Young's modulus of different carbon steels are the same. The extra flexibility is being able to take more force or bending before failure, hence cannot be a drawback for armor.

Need some help deciding on a woods gun. My main criteria are that I need to be able to carry it on my hip, and that it have enough power to put down Winnie the Pooh without a reload. Nice features would be night sights and ability to mount an accessory light, since some bear encounters take place at night.

>Glock 20
Total cost for the gun + night sights + Lone Wolf barrel: $775.
Capacity: 15+1 of 10mm
Weight: 31 oz
Bonus: largest capacity
Liability: is a Glock. Trigger hurts my finger (drags on inside of trigger guard), so not that fun to practice with. Possible to limp-wrist which might happen while grabbing the gun half-asleep at night as a bear is devouring my legs.

>Sig P220 10mm (version with night sights, not pictured)
Cost: Variable, due to low supply. $1050-1300.
Capacity: 8+1 of 10mm
Weight: 39 oz
Bonus: not a Glock.
Liability: low magazine capacity for 10mm cartridge power. Pretty heavy. DA first pull and SA second pull is not my preference.

>Smith and Wesson 460V (or something like it, maybe a Model 69)
Cost: $1100-range for 460V. $700 for Model 69.
Capacity: 5 rounds of .460 magnum (or 5 rounds of .44 magnum)
Weight: 60 oz (460V) or 37 oz (M69)
Bonus: high power ratio per shot
Liabilities: low overall capacity, no options for night sights or an accessory light, heaviest, probably no kydex holster options (kydex because it dries out quickly and doesn't hold water up against the gun, encouraging rust)

Sounds like the Glock 20 is your best option. How does the trigger hurt your finger? I don't understand how it would drag against the trigger guard.

Okay, so I know that every type of sword has a proper application and context to be most properly used. But hypothetically, let's say an immortal swordsman is well trained in every martial style and well above average. Let's also say that he is plopped down in the year 500BC and is somehow able to fight in every major conflict (in both the Orient and the Occident) from this time up until the High Middle ages. What single type of sword would best serve him? The sword can come out of any era and made with the highest level of craftsmanship. So, what sword would be useful in the greatest amount of conflicts and situations?

see that bit:

> every type of sword has a proper application and context to be most properly used.

you answered your own question.

furthermore, time is linear. a 15th C longsword's not going to be available in 2nd C. Rome.

Therefore we can safely conclude that given sword types were replaced over time, as warfare changed, and no one particular type remained in use for 400, 500 years.while arms, warfare etc changed around them, that there is no such thing as a "greatest" sword, there is simply a range of swords which all excel in the application and context of when they were being used, against what they needed to be used for.
>>
>>32313835
But my question is a hypothetical. Let's say *you* are thrown back in time and are gifted with all the proper training, you know that warfare will change, but you are forced to choose one type of sword. What would that be?
>>
>>32313855
and you just answered your own question.

>every type of sword has a proper application and context to be most properly used.

that 15th C longsword? Bloody good in 15th C germany.
Shit in 2nd C Rome.
That 2nd C Roman gladii? Shit in 15th C Germany. That 16th C japanese Katana? Shit on a Viking age raid on Lindisfarne.

and so on.

there is no "greatest". there is no "best". your hypothetical question is utterly pointless, because these weapons are ALL the best, for thier time, for their environment they were used in. Each was honed and optimised to be the best against the prevailing conditions. Take it outside of its prevailing conditions and it no longer the best, its is sub-optimal for use.

http://www.northcrane.com/2016/12/13/video-bald-white-man-accidentally-shot-and-killed-black-friend-while-streaming-live-on-facebook/

Long and skinny of it is these chuckle fucks were playing around with a firearm on livestream. Someone got fatally shot.

From the video it looks like the weapon was eventually cleared. Is there any way there was a bullet still chambered at the end? Or was another bullet loaded after the video cuts off?

This is why you actually take the effort to visually check the chamber if you're going to be stupid with a gun.

What do you guys think about the SU-16C? Or the CA?
I'm thinking of getting one, cuz I'm not poor, but not exactly well off. And after watching some pretty thorough reviews, the C variant seems like a solid choice.

I just recently bought my first scattergatter for home defense. Now I want a rifle for true 2nd amendment purposes. And then I'll be looking at concealed carry.

No firsthand experience, but all the reviews make them sound solid.

I run a PSA ar15 for 3 Gun and classes. Cost me $500 to throw together. Has about 2,000 rounds through with no malfunctions yet. I see a lot of M&P15s, which run $625 here, and all perform well

Glock factory sights are pretty crude.

The ball-in-cup is okay for daylight combat use, but shit for precision and shit for night use. And there's better daylight combat sights anyway.

They don't have to be night sights. Unless you wish to be able to see them at night, then they do.

Yes, you need a sight pusher tool.
