Going to buy my first AR on Friday. Am I making a good choice? Pic related is a Daniel Defense M4V11. Also plan on getting an Eotech and a grip.

What brand of ammo should I buy?

Relatively new to buying guns and gear but not to shooting them.
>>
DD v11 is also my first AR. You cannot go wrong. But get an Aimpoint T2 or MRO instead.
>>
>>32313065
Expensive. You can build a better rifle for less.
>>
>>32313101
Go be poor elsewhere. You don't tell a nigga to build an AR for his first AR
>>
>>32313100
What advantages to those offer over an Eotech?
>>
>>32313112
I bought a DD for my first rifle.

I wouldn't do it again. The LFA LF556 is comparable for less.
>>
>>32313318
Why wouldn't you do it again?
>>
>>32313477
Building is cheaper but honestly the rifle is worth the money. But if it's pretty much where you want it as a rifle it's good.
>>
>>32313065
they're all decent
better to spend your money on ammo and not gay double gold boron coatings
>>
>>32313158
They are rugged
>>
>>32313494
The rifle NIB is $1400
>>
>>32313065
You better get V7 with M-LOK.
>>
>>32313619
And? That's roughly the price I would pay for building mine exactly how I like it. If the rifle is everything he's wanting out of the box minus some accessories and optics then he made a good buy.
>>
>>32313065
Just get an AK
>>
>>32313713
But I want an AR15 platform.
>>
>>32313708
OTD for the gun and an Eotech was $1922 after tax.

I own the V11 SLW and it is certainly my favorite AR15.
>>
>>32313772
What brand of ammo would you recommend? I don't know a whole lot about it. I was told to stick with Federal but I'm sure theres better stuff out there.

>What brand of ammo would you recommend?
Dude, whatever you want. Of course, I'd stick with brass for self defense, but this rifle eats anything. I've shot steel, brass, JHP, FMJ, 55 grain, to 77 grain.
>>
>>32313158
get the eotech
>>
>>32314001
What does the X grain do? Sorry for the noon questions. Lovely rifle btw
>>
>>32314285
Grains refer to the weight of the actual bullet. The 5.56x45mm cartridge allows for tremendous diversity with regard to grain. Heavier grain bullets typically retain their flight path better and are more lethal than lighter grain bullets. On the other hand, lighter grain bullets are cheaper and have less of a propensity to over-penetrate your target (say inside an apartment building). Most people will practice with 55 grain "ball" ammunition. Also called M193.
>>
>>32313620
Don't be dumb. Either system works fine.

>>32314285
I'm going to make this easy for you.

Buy Federal M193 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket. This ammunition is not overly expensive, is accurate, can be used for target practice, and is even good for defense.
>>
>>32313318
No CFH CL barrel.
>>
>>32314422
Nah, nigga u gay. For 55gr plinking get only wolf gold, MEN, or GECO
>>
>>32314324

Thanks for the helpful reply :)

>>
>>32314458
Shut it fag. The last thing that you need to do for someone new to this is introduce a bunch of different ammo types for different purposes. He'll wind up using steel cased for home defense or something silly.
>>
>>32313158
you might prefer the sight picture through the eotech more. its wider and for some easier/faster to pic up than just a plain dot. aimpoints have them beat in terms of battery life and durability.
theres also an issue with eotechs losing zero in extreme weather temps but that isnt going to be an issue for 99% of consumers. still, ive gotten rid of my eotechs just because of this inherent flaw.
>>
>>32314422
Thanks for the helpful reply :)

PS. How many rounds should I buy? I'm buying and heading straight to the range. So I imagine the more the merrier right?
>>
>>32313065
I went on a spree last spring getting every designer rifle I could get my hands on. From the GRY, to the BAMF, etc. Of the 11 'high end ARs I purchased, that Daniel Defense is possibly my favorite. It's not finicky, it's very light and hasn't had any issues so far (I'm probably at around 2500 rounds through it, so take that with a grain of salt).
That being said, >>32313101 is the best answer in this thread imo. Right before the election, I picked up some lowers and I've been having a lot of fun building a couple of ARs a week. It's not hard, can be done at home, and I believe produces a finer rifle than can be bought off of a shelf for less.

Either way, great choices. Have fun lol!
>>
>>32314484
Could You elaborate about steel cased ammo? what its purpose?
>>
>>32315304
Steel is generally cheaper, so less reliable.
>>
>>32315304
AR is designed for brass. Poor fags will defend shooting steel ammo. I only shoot steel out of my AKs.
>>
DD is a good company, considered them before I got my KAC
>>
>>32314509
the drift was only on the older series. It's been greatly reduced.
>>
wolf steel case, american ammo is overpriced and shit in quality.
>>
>>32313477
Because if you know exactly what you want to get you can either build a rifle to spec or buy something cheaper that is 95% comparable.

>>32314434
I got the DD Mk12 which is nitrided. I don't care about chrome lining or CHF. I'm never going to shoot out the barrel anyways and I don't magdump in general.
>>
>>32315799
Show me on the map where america touched you.

>just kidding, we own the world, fuck off now :^)
>>
>>32313065
>>32313620
i have the V7 my self i love it
>>
>>32313065
I have a DDM4V9. I usually buy pmc xtac 62gr green tip. Been though 3k rounds, accurate, and well built.

Another is freedom munitions reman for cheap reliable ammo.

Pmc xtac produced by a South Korean company for their military/NATO. I like it better than federal and I used to be a huge nothing but federal fan boy.
>>
>>32313101

Such a moron. And I really doubt you had one ever, like you claim, liar.
>>
>>32314995
I usually shoot 300 rounds out of my ddm4v9 at the range.

I have around 3k stockpiled though. If you have money I buy 1k a month. The xtac green tip from palmetto sells with rounds around $370.
>>
>>32316056
I don't think DD offers much over BCM honestly
and for 400ish more it's just not worth it to me
I have a prebuilt rifle though
>>
>>32315304
Some extractors will break using steel cased. Just stay away from it, brass is what your ar was designed for. Steel cased is usually shit.
>>
>>32316095
what kind of shit extractor would break from steel case?
also, you could just buy another for the amount of money you save
Nothing wrong with steel case
>>
>>32315799
?

Just no.

I'd shoot wolf out of someone else's rifle not my own. It's shit ammo.
>>
>>32316106
He's talking about an ar. I shot steel out of an ak but not an ar. Just because your extractor hasn't snapped doesn't mean it doesn't happen more over brass, retard.

Steel is harder than brass, ar15 is designed for brass, use your autistic brain.
>>
>>32316140
$5 part that is super easy to replace
>Retard
post ar
>>
>>32316152
Why fucking risk breaking it in the first place?

What shit logic you have.
>>
>>32316161
Because it's a 5 dollar part?
buy 1 case and u can replace it 10 times
math must be hard for this one
>>
Op dont use steel.

I like my DDM4V11
>>
>>32313158
they're not shit
>>
>>32315770
So you considered being straight before going full homo
>>
OP- steel is fine to shoot. however, there some who dont mind paying more CPR and prefer to use brass only, which is fine too (im one of those people). whatever youd like.
>>
>>32316288
That stock is fugly. I prefer the DD stock over that piece of shit.
>>
>>32313101
>All parts are made in house, extensive QC and testing, great customer service and full warranty.
Your getting assurance and less hassle for an extra $200 for a similarly equipped gun
>>
>>32315304
What finish is on the upper and lower of this rifle? Cerakote burnt bronze?
>>
>>32313318

Holy shit go shill your garage builds on arfcom.
>>
>>32317950
I mean this rifle:
>>32314001
>>
>>32317960
>DD now has their own color called MilSpec+ that Cerakote makes just for them.
patriot brown might be close
>>
>>32317953
I don't work for LFA senpai. They just have the right spec for the right price.

You could pretty much call it dark brown.

Battery life and overall ruggedness. Modern aimpoints have a runtime measured in years. That's due to the fact that it's really simple design that's just powering an LED.

The Eotech arguably has a better sight picture, with its ring, smaller dot, and more points of reference for placing your shots. The sight is actually a hologram, so it's a virtual image that appears to be floating downrange over your target instead of a point of light within the tube of a normal red dot sight. Also, if you get a magnifier, the eotech's reticle is going to appear smaller and crisper than the aimpoint's dot.

Look through the sights at a store first before you buy. If you have astigmatism you may want to consider avoiding reflex sights altogether and just get a lower power or variable zoom scope instead.

Also a lot of /k/ommandos are basically an extension of Aimpoint's marketing department and will shit on any competing optic.

Personally I'm a fan of Eotechs because I prefer the holographic sight but the aimpoints are more resistant to abuse, more waterproof, and have significantly longer battery life. Those points aren't even open to debate.
>>
>>32313100
Fuck that, wait for Vortex to drop their holo next year
>>
>>32321470
Thanks for the well thought out reply. What am I looking at in terms of battery life on an Eotech
>>
>>32323794
Depending on the model, 600 to 1000 hours I think. That info should be displayed for each model on most retailers websites. For reference, aimpoints can have runtimes in the 50,000 hour range. Then there are some fiber optic / tritium illuminated sights from trijicon that laugh at the notion of batteries.
