/k/, I have never bought a gun before. What order should I go about building my collection? I was thinking a pump action shotgun to start, but I'm not sure where to go from there.
>>
>>32313611
Idiots will go
>muh 22
but that's fuddshit
shotgun or AR15, and be a real American
>>
Pick up a 22 pistol and rifle first.
>>
>>32313624
Why a 22? I was trying to have the most utility as early as possible, then expand on to guns that are just for fun.
>>
What's your purpose?

I started by buying a set of guns for any conceivable use. Bought a shotgun for large and small game, an Arsenal ak for home defense, Mauser for distance shooting, etc. now i'm just buying shit that catches my eye.
>>
>>32313649
.22 is a good beginner gun purely because ammo is cheap and you can get in a lot of practice for almost nothing.>>32313690
>>
>>32313649
22 has a lot of utility just not much power
>>
>>32313611
First, figure out what you want to do and what your priorities are
>I want to hunt!
Then buy a hunting rifle/shotgun, or something that can do double duty as such.
>I want to defend my home/person!
Then buy a CC pistol and a cheap pump shotgun.
>I want to target shoot!
Then buy a bolt-action .22lr that's known for its inherent accuracy, or a target shotgun or pistol (depending on what you prefer to shoot).
>etc etc etc

If you want a lot of utility early, get one of the field and defense combo pump shotguns from either Mossberg or Remington. Birds, clays, and burglars in one gun for around $400. This will give you the time and budget to expand into wants instead of needs.
>>
>>32313649

.22 rifles/pistols are good varmint and small game guns. They are lightweight, low recoil, and just all around very user friendly. This makes them good tools for learning basic operation and handling of future firearms.
>>
>>32313611
Just buy the gun you like best.
Screw what /k/ posters say, get a gun that gets your nethers rock hard when you hold it.
Also, try to make sure it's something that doesn't cost a dollar per shot. Get something that's more like 20-50c/r to shoot so you can actually afford to play with it.
>>
I own a 12 gauge shotgun and a 308 rifle I never shoot. I own an AR, and several pistols that I shoot regularly.

Since you are starting out, get something you enjoy shooting and want to go shoot on the weekends. Otherwise, they just take up room in your gun safe.

I recommend a .22 (10/22, marlin model 60)
AR-15 is a great 2nd gun unless the first one you buy has a .22 upper and you plan to buy a .223 upper later
>>
>>32314362
22 conversion kits are a thing and often cheaper and take up less space than an upper
>>
Buy a good 22. Reasonable cost to get introduced to the hobby, ammo is cheap, fun plinking cans, reasonably quiet and good for practice shooting. While I wouldn't attempt to shoot a deer with a 22, a lot of deer have been taken with a well placed shot.

As mentioned a .22 is one of you best options for a first gun. Ammo is cheap and recoil is not really worth noting. It also will also keep you from developing bad shooting habits (such as a flinch).

An AR-15 is an option too. Cheap ammo is anywhere from 2-4x the price though. Recoil is also light but unlike a .22 you can upgrade the gun later on. It is also worth noting that there are conversion kits that allow you to use a standard AR with .22lr ammo but I have heard mixed reviews about those.

If you are just looking to buy a shotgun for defense, buy whatever and stick it your closet and never use it like 93.7263% of all home defense guns.

If you are looking to start a collection of something, figure out what you like and buy those (I personally like old guns, mostly milsurp)).
>>
Just buy ones that look cool. I started with Call of Duty and rolled into Western stuff.
>>
Don't go too big too fast and buy something with affordable ammo.

Something like a .357 carbine is good.
>>
>>32313611
Depends on your level of experience IMO. If you've shot before, go with what you want. If you've never shot before, especially if you aren't sure if you're even going to like it, don't go all out right away. Every gun owner needs a .22 or two. Maybe a good carry gun, too.

Basically, get a .22 rifle/pistol or good carry-sized handgun. Build from there.
>>
>>32313611
pump shotgun is fine but I'd really suggest a 10/22. You can defend your house with one, hunt, target shoot, w/e
>>
>>32313611
I regret not buying a .22 for my first gun. I bought a .308 bolt action rifle trying to be a do-it-all.

If you end up liking guns and shooting you're going to buy a .22 someday anyway, you may as well buy it when you can learn the most you can from it.
>>
if you want toactually shoot, get something cheap to fire.

This right now would be 9mm, its good in a pistol and in a carbine. still beginner friendly but good enough for self defence and a bunch of other shit. It is nearly as cheap as 22LR right now, reloadable, and a helluva lot better for self defense. You can get it as low as 15CPR, maybe cheaper if you shop it.

223 isnt much more, 7.62x39 is a little cheaper than 223.

theres a good pistol and 3 rifle recommendations. Most wont agree with the carbine though.

Get a decent shotgun or even just a cheap pumper, I think the mavericks are under 300 and you can also save money going used for others... 12 gauge. I have a SxS and pump I inherited, bought a vepr 12 but mags are a bitch. Still fun as fuck to shoot.

for a larger rifle, 308 is plentiful from military adoption. 7.62x54R is still relatively cheap. Far too many options to cover here.

gunbot, net has good common calibers and prices for each.

If you want versatility, S&W governor can fire a variety of rounds in 45/410, so can the taurus judge but the quality... Neither is fantastic with each round but its good for ammo shortages.
>>
At the moment, I would like to be able to hunt and ensure that anyone who breaks into my house does not get to leave alive.
>>
Shotguns are honestly a terrible weapon to start with.
They're deceptively hard to use defensively, and they're much more specialised than most people give them credit for.

A .22 is always a great starting point, but I'm going to recommend that you actually start with .223, specifically an AR.
It's obviously more expensive than .22, but it's just as easy to learn on because it has zero recoil. It's also much more useful, given that an AR's basically the best choice for HD and is also pretty good for hunting varmints and small game.

After that I'd look at a full-size 9mm handgun, and then after you've shot those you'll probably have a better idea of what you really want.
>>
>>32315380
Stupid question, can you hunt a deer with .223
>>
>>32315396
Not here in Aus, our deer are much too big.

I'm 99% sure Americans do hunt smaller breeds with .223, so as long as you use good ammo and do your research you're probably fine.
>>
>conceal carry pistol
>rifle of choice
>mossberg 590a1 or vepr-12
>full size pistol
>battle rifle
>bolt gun
>vermin gun
>brush gun

Thats basically my collection and its over. I became a gun nerd and /k/ user over the years of researching guns but I really wish I could just get like 5-10k so I can buy my guns and ammo and accessories get over it. I've chosen the guns on a mix of practicality, hunting, fun, and usefullness while making it well rounded as possible. Unless something new and amazing comes out that really tickles my cock my collection is pretty much set in stone. My collection, some of which I have:
>conceal carry
S&W M60
gp101
>full size handgun
S&W 627
>OC/Hunting Handgun
S&w 629
>rifle
vepr
>shotgun
vepr-12 22in
>big rifle
vepr 308 23in
>bolt gun
one gun I'm waiting on, because I want to go all out on it for a distance/precision gun, not really a hunting gun
>brush gun
1895GBL
>backpack/insurgency/travel guns
14" mossberg 500 birdshead
zastava m92
>critter gun
ruger single 10
might get bearcat for tacklebox

thats it. yes im a ak and revolver fag but i think i got all my bases covered. i cant wait to finish my collection off, it will be a great day. only other gun in the collection that is more of a collectors piece is a saiga->AKM conversion. that gives me three 7.62x39 guns to stock up bulk for innawoods/range fun, although the actual SHTF guns are the .308s and 12ga.

Depends on your state laws.

Some states don't allow semi autos or even rifles for hunting.

Some have a caliber minimum.
>>
>>32314783
Good luck finding one
>>
>>32315741
Lever action carbine?
>>
>>32315816
Scarce as fuck in the north east now the 44 lever is fucking everywhere. Granted I do not go for henreys

this post will get you arrested and the DA will butfuck you

>not wanting to keep you and your family safe
>wanting an excuse to legally kill people

dont buy a gun, use the money and get psych help
>>
>>32313611
A 9mm handgun.
>>
>>32318741
This. Or 40, 45 if you can afford the ammo. Don't bother with kiddy calibers, get comfortable with practical calibers.
