Hey guys, I really need some help. So I'm going into my senior year of college, supposed to be graduating in winter with a BFA and I don't know what to do. I'm doing a dual concentration in drawing and maybe electronic media. Would that be a worthwhile degree? I can already use photoshop and could probably find classes online. So, do you guys find graphic design education in college helpful? What classes would be the most helpful, e.g. typography, design etc.?
TL;DR what are the most helpful courses to take in art school?
OP here again, I don't know about you guys, but the school I went to has the worst staff imaginable and I feel like I've wasted my education on bad classes with even worse professors. So angry. Fuck art school. I feel like I should've just gone to specs howard and would've been more prepared.
You're fucked dude.

Ouch, I've seen that infograph before. At least I got most of mine paid for, so I won't be too disadvantaged. But it feels like a massive waste of time.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Hey so I've been posting this on the question thread but got no reply,so I have trouble understanding the the cause of the purple in the shadow formed in the yellow/afternoon light in pic related, is it introduced as a complementary to yellow or blue in the sky mixing with red?
>>2555075
Fuck man instead of posting something from a fucking cartoon why wont you post something found in life?
>>2555077
Animated CGI movies are actually a far better source to study realistic lighting than photos are. Photos can't even come close of capturinge the vibrance of real life lighting and often times the photographer fucks with color balance of an image to fake it.
Meanwhile color key artists working for Disney and co usually have years, sometimes decades of plein air painting experience and carefully design every shot, using real life reference AND knowledge about how colors are actually seen by the human eye, not a photo camera.

Does anyone still have any of the Schoolism classes that used to be on cgpeers? I looked everywhere but found nothing. I need Nathan Howkes' Designing with Color and Light in particular.
RUtracker has a few from what I remember.

Looking for gun refs, preferably foreshortened and of interesting design. Any and all types of guns/artillery, be it sci-fi or old school are gud
Good afternoon fellow /ic/, I was browsing catalogue and saw there was no Tattoo appreciation thread, the art that speaks of ourselves. Have a tattoo that looks great? Thinking about getting one and want opinions? What are your thoughts on having them in general? Bring it all here!
I personally have been heavily considering getting a tattoo of the neurotransmitter serotonin, which of course is an important factor in happiness, sleep, mood, and may be one of the more diverse and important chemicals in your body. I wanted to get it on my shoulder or upper back that has different colors or something for the bond to represent family members and close friends, the colors being all their favorite colors, but in my head i see it looking pretty silly. Any ideas?

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.
Visit the usual "Artbook Thread" to find your desired books. (Or look in the new sticky)
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Hey /ic
I was sketching out a few thumbnail sketches for my portfolio and I dont know what to do with this one. The idea seems kind of generic/boring so I thought maybe someone could suggest a more interesting theme/or what I could change to make it less plain?
I would really appreciate it , ty

This is not a thumbail. Also nigger, what are you doing? Draw her silhouette in black and see what's wrong - she's one huge blob.
planning what to do can't be a step after you've started rendering, you can't really be asking this
plan anything and then sketch, rather than realize you've not plan anything and then post threads about how to fix that kek

I have another challenge for you. Create an image using simple lines that illustrate motion of some sort; dancing, fighting, running, flying, etc.
You first.
Poetics/Logic as contrast.
Need to paint this now. Collage is derived from imagery from Thoreaus Walden hacked out of a dictionary.

Is he dabbing
Hello /ic/. It's kinda hard to me ask for it but i will do it anyway. I'm trying to get back on my path with drawing by getting in to graphic designing and line-arts/concept-art thing. I'm working with gimp and i really don't know where to start with (especially when i have limited amount of money right now). I can only use mouse and free software. So far I've made my first line-art in it, and i don,t really know how to get in to layers, shadowing, coloring etc. Could you recommend any tutorials for beginners ? I would appreciate it really. Here is my first work.

How do you develop good taste?
>>2553404
you don't. Just look at everyone on this board.
>>2553404
Just be honest with yourself. What pieces do you genuinely respond to? Which do "like" because everybody likes it and tells you it is cool? Once you know what you genuinely like, try to figure out why you like them--what do they have in common?
Also it is important to remember that your tastes will gradually shift over long periods of time, and that's okay. Don't fight it. Always expose yourself to new art and make sure to look at it with an open mind.

How many hours do you spend on art a day?
Feng Zhu said you should do 6-8 hours everyday for at least a year. Is there anyone here who does that?
After 3 hours of art I cannot do anymore. How do you increase this?
Everyone has different work habits. I'd think if you don't have any projects you're passionate about or aren't getting paid for your work, 3 hrs a day is plenty. Artists setting how many hours to work is just a sneaky way of bragging about how much they worked themselves.
>>2548543
Bumping this.
I'm similar except that I spend around 5 hours, yet I easily get overwelmed when I learn new things and techniques. All I can say is as long as you're healthy and exercise regularly you'll be able to improve. So far, I found that doing studies on something specific a day like e.g. landscapes, armor, and animals/chimera combos helps.
>>2548543
I need a break after a 1h-1h30 session. I tend to focus very strongly on art, much more than on my job, so I need some time to come out of that before I can dive back into it. Minding breaks I can to 6-7h on a weekend day. Without good breaks I tend to go for 3h at max.
alright abstractfags, what do you think about this? 10/10 or 0/0?
