What's the thought process that goes into making things like logos or fonts and what's the process? For example, this logo for the game Dragon's Crown, what goes into making something like that? Is it just painting over an existing font and adding your own flourishes like colors, textures, new shapes and so on?
I'm working on a game and I'm just at a loss for how I make the logo, even though I may have just answered my own question I'm really intimidated about how to begin.

I'm not going to pretend that I am an expert in logo design or that I have a lot of experience in graphic design, since professionally I've mostly worked in illustration, but personally I would integrate something thematic from the game into the design, like in your example.
Personally I'm not very interested in typography, so I'm more interested in integrating imagery, and integrating text with that.
This is something I threw together on the weekend.
how many of of you graduated from an art or design school? and if you did, where do you work now? in a related field or not? was going to school for this a waste of time (yes)???
i graduated a couple weeks ago from what's supposed to be a pretty prestigious design school and god there are no jobs. how the fuck do you do it. from what i've seen people exclusively get jobs by knowing artists who already have jobs, regardless of talent.
also does anyone here just live off freelance? if so are you evading taxes or . .not.
is drawing furry porn for a living actually viable? ??????????
Art isn't just about making pretty pictures. There's a lot of business sense involved too, the people that forget that don't get jobs. Most graduates don't get jobs anyway, they just get an "experience" and a huge fucking bill lol
Also, pretend we're a potential client or art director and post your art for the sake of the thread.
i went to an art school, did ceramics, and now i work doing storyboards and keyframes for a small production company.
so...
ceramics = job in film and tv.
take it all with a bucket of salt art school rarely actually gets you a job in the field that you study.
i know some real fuckwit scammer types of artists that are total shit at ceramics that got jobs within the ceramic community after school, so, yea. its all up in the fucking air as far as im concerned.
go to art school for booze, sex, and magic.
if you expect anything more to happen, your not gonna have a good time.
>>2562871
There's absolutely no overlap between "ceramics" and storyboards/keyframes.
That sounds like a total load of horseshit but whatever.

Magnificent anon, I'm in tears.
Its the most beatiful thing i have seen in this delusional board
Im not even joking, you know why? Because i seen something deep here, the struggle of Lacoonte being updated, but its not the punishment of the gods but the punishment of our own consumism,of our belief in a system that absorb our life, the giant snakes becomes the precious technology that make our life a deadlist fantasy, they not punish our bodies tought, they punish our spirit,it all becomes layers upon layers of denial, sintomatic of a society full of irony.
Its better that just drawing meaninless shit like you see in this board, just for saying "mmm i think its look good" and nothing else, truly ironic isn it?Fucking retinals shits.
Looking for some constructive criticism on this fantasy map I am making.
I used “https://donjon.bin.sh/fantasy/world/” for the land masses material if curious.
The idea is that it is a map created from pages torn from a book, inked with blood, and framed.

Too many bays and islands, gets a little noisy and loses the general shape in all the frayed edges.
>>2562130
Better?
As for bays, could you point out some areas you would change in particular?

why do the lakes have huge islands
why do lakes have rivers going to the sea
why are there no mountains

A picture from their new Age Of Sigmar
Its tragic really, I loved GW's Warhammer Fantasy art; it respected real medieval and renaissance history and art while providing something surprisingly unique and something that I could take seriously compared to say, Warcraft with giant cartoony swords and basketball sized breasts
Just compare this
This could almost be a classical painting

to

But recently, GW's art quality seems to be going done, in addition to the designs of their miniatures(looking at you 40k: HUR HUR HUR HUR LETS JUST COPY PASTE GOTHIC ARCHES TO EVERYTHING TO MAKE IT 40k WE UNIQUE)
going down* aghhh typo
thats not photobashing
also seriously there's been some janky artwork in games workshop's history, this is nothing new.
40k art is always good
What do you guys think of Jackson Pollock's work? What do you see?
I don't see much honestly, I don't even remember the process of those paintings except that it's splats of paints.
It's not even enjoyable for the eyes. I don't like the colors, the composition.
>>2556739
>What do you guys think of Jackson Pollock's work?
I dig it. Wasn't too big of a fan until I saw one in person. It spanned and entire wall and thick lines of textured paint raced and battled across the canvas. There were even a few handprints here and there. So long as you don't bring your preconceptions about what painting should or shouldn't be, you stand a chance of liking it, but he isn't for everyone.
>What do you see?
Paint on a canvas. This isn't a Magic Eye image, you're not supposed to see images in it.
>>2556764
Process is pretty simple, he drips and splatters liquid house paint onto the canvas using brushes, sticks, etc. Inspired by Native American sand painting.
Who are today's "illustration giants"? It seems in the past there were people who were huge figures even in their day, and everyone knew their massive impact and that they would be remembered in art history. I'm talking about guys like Leyendecker, Rockwell, Wyeth, and Cornwell. Even after the Golden Age you still had heavy hitters who changes the field like Frazetta, Jeff Jones and Syd Mead.
So what working artists today will be remembered the same way? Who has had the same impact in the field and will have their names written in the history books? Is there anyone who is right in the prime of their career at this very moment that is leaving behind a legacy? I can't really think of many people that fit the bill here, but am curious to see who /ic/ considers to be in the same league as those I mentioned.
Syd Mead counts but he's past his prime and I'm looking for people who are closer to the height of their career right now. Mullins might fit the best. Ashley Wood probably can be argued to work as well.
Sakimi
Jaime Jones made everyone want their digital paintings to look more natural. Most people still can't really figure that shit out.
Maciej Kukoobookulalala made everyone give up and just photobash.

What are some practices for drawing human figures? Or just anything really that'll help later when I need it.
I think your question is too specific to get an answer, anon. Could you try to rephrase in broader terms?
What are some exercises for drawing body's and/or objects.
>Inb4 just look to the object to your right and draw it until you're satisfied.
>>2563075
Learning form and shape is the first step to constructing the human body, learn basic perspective then practice drawing cylinders and boxes. Next you'll want to learn proportions, how long and wide the bones are in body, the "how many heads from feet to skull" rule works too. Then basic anatomy, I personally like Micheal Hamptons books and videos the best, you can also try Glen vilpus vidoes.
I am a new aspiring mangaka, I wrote this in 2 hours last night. What do you think?

>TL;DR recommend great art supplies with a budget of $300, preferably traditional
My 19th birthday is coming up in about a week and I was planning on buying a new console, but thankfully I've had a change of heart. On my birthdays I usually get nothing but money, so I'll have about 300 dollars to spend on art supplies (including the money I already had to spare). I've never put much thought into what I use to draw, but as a result I never took it that seriously and didn't use that much color.
>Sketchbooks
>Markers
>Pencils
>Pens
>Brush Pens
etc.

Materials don't make an artist. You're better off buying a stack a printer paper and some anatomy books and then spend some time copying every image out.
>>2562710
Yes I know, but sometimes it'd be nice to have better resources to meet my full capabilities.

Can you visualize (in your "mind's eye") something simple as square, circle, triangle etc.?
Can you see it clearly? Can you see it in color? Can you hold it in your mind's eye for a long time or it quickly dissapears? Can you modify that shape as you wish?
>>2561292
I can visualize more than just simple shapes. I can make forms appear in my mind, and twist them and bend them and modify them and move them about in space in relation to each other. Usually I can only hold a few simple forms in my head at a time, maybe 2 or 3, though I can visualize a foggy version of entire compositions.
I presume most people can visualize about the level I can, though I might have slightly above average spacial manipulation in my visualizations because I've been doing art longer than most on the board here.
>>2561304
>because I've been doing art longer than most on the board here
How do you know that?
>>2561311
Most people here have been doing art for a few months to a few years. This can be seen by both the level of work people are posting and from past threads where there were polls taken to get basic statistics on the board. I'm probably around 7ish years, so while I'm sure there are people here who have been at it longer than me, I think it is safe to say I have been doing it for longer than the majority of people here.
