Am thinking of attending art classes. Are adult art classes useful/helpful?
>>2557510
I'm interested in those too, thinking about drawing course(s) and attending atelier. Not necessairly only for 18-19 year old sluts trying to get into architecture.
>>2557510
If they have a live model one then it's a good thing since you'll never get one of those yourself.
If it's the a to b of art, don't bother.
The most valuable thing an art course can offer is a competent teacher who can guide and critique you. If an art course doesn't give you anything you can't find in a text book or on the internet then it's a waste of time.
What am I doing wrong? Please help. I feel like theres so much i have to learn still.
this is the reference. I wasnt going for a full copy just liked the pose and the lighting.
I like the drawing as a cartoon, but if you were trying to copy the reference it doesn't really seem you tried to get the angles and proportions, mainly in the chin area.
stop beating yourself up and just do a few more copies, if you have like 7 and made the same mistake in all of them come back and we can start to treat your symbol seeing retardation.

oh dam yeah, I changed the jaw big time for she has a man jaw tried to make it more feminine i suppose.
I still draw symbolicly ?
Anyone have a youtube channel with timelapses or tutorials? Post links and chill.

Digital art timelapses aren't as great as traditional ones to me. Anyone else feel the same way?
I love Torianne's tutorials.

How do I choose a good one word name like catbib?
I need one for my tumblr/deviant/youtube, but all the names I want are taken!
Hey /ic/,
I'm looking for the name of this Japanese artist that paints very detailed, almost comic book-y landscapes. They're definitely very traditional Japanese looking too, similar to "Nihonga" style I found through wikipedia (minding the fact that I know nothing about it) but with finer detail. I'd probably date him early 20th century.
I can only describe one of his works, it shows a man sitting in a hot tub installed on top of a tree with a lush green forest in the background.
If anyone knows the name, don't hesitate to post.
Thanks!
Got his name from an image search.

Art Products Thread / Consumer Whore Thread
I just made this thread to ask what kind of sketchbook should I get. And to share what kind of tools you guys use I guess
I was thinking about this,
http://www.amazon.com/Moleskine-Sketchbook-Pocket-Classic-Notebooks/dp/8883701054?ie=UTF8&keywords=pocket%20sketchbook&qid=1465415785&ref_=sr_1_2&sr=8-2
is moleskin good for pencil?
I prefer spiral card-back, so I can fold the book down to the size of single page. Also prevents crinkling.
But I hear people like moleskin, try it for yourself.
>>2555158
thanks for the input anon, guess ill buy it
>>2555138
>sketchbook
I prefer using a clipboard with a cover and filling it with printer paper. i discard the trash as needed and archive the really nice stuff (i don't have any) in plastic wallets. Using a clipboard is great because the paper lies flat, and is dirt cheap to set up.
What am I missing out on by using GIMP instead of PS?
>>2553409
depends on what you do with it
gimp is like photoshop back in 2004
>not using Krita

>>2553409
Use krita

Has the west fallen so low that Japan is taking over?
>>2550178
Yes.
Ain't that fucking obvious? Have you seen ANY good and well known western animation in the last fucking decade?
>>2550178
Anyone can tell that 2d animation has largely died in the West. 3d has taken over for feature films, and the 2d animated shows are either for kids or are comedy shows, neither of which demand high quality and both of which have shoestring budgets. France has some good animators left, but the US has really gone downhill like crazy.
Japan is the largest center of 2d animation in the world so it's not a surprise they are influential and producing high quality work.
>>2550183
The first season of Legend of Korra was pretty stellar purely from a technical animation standpoint. But yeah, as far as tv shows go, the west is hopelessly behind japan both in terms of animation quality and story telling.
What makes you want to draw till you puke blood? Anything goes, youtube channels, movies whatever.
Pic related, recently seen this, they adapted the manga in a quasi asano-esque bitter(((sweet))) way, and the sountrack is great to work on.
>>2553220
This and...
>>2553410
... and this.
They're not art related but they always remind me that you have to work hard to get where you want to be.
If any tard here tries to say Whiplash I'll slap you. The point of the movie is that it's a terrible approach to art.
>>2553220
The made Bakuman into a live action film??? And it was okay? I read the comic a few years ago and thought it was pretty good.
Arakimentari is fun. It's not the most inspirational in the sense you are looking for, but if you like his photography it's interesting to see, and his enthusiasm towards photography really makes you feel more energized about art and creation in general.
Does /ic/ want to rate my imoutos doodles?

How do your parents feel about you becoming an artist?
They're supportive and my mom sometimes asks me to draw things (and she frames them which is embarrassing because I'm not that good), but since it's a hobby I don't think they're that concerned about it affecting my future wellbeing.
I have my own house, why the fuck they would care about that?
They're super supportive
Since they both went to art center I feel like I have giant shoes to fill. But whenever i procrastinate or put off making any art whatsoever, I tend to feel a bit of guilt that I'm wasting their money and time.
Where do you guys get ideas what to draw? Books? Movies? Games?
Im talking about story telling inillustration
Aphantasia
