I used to have a large passion for doing art and making a career out of it. I thought I could do something in the freelance world as long as I was smart about it.
But you know what? It's all bullshit. At the end of the day, for a career, you don't decide what you draw. You may very well draw only banal things. You're a bitch to most people. Writers are superior to you because they can weave in for better stories than you can depict in a single painting.
I've honestly come to believe that drawing and painting are the lowest form of art and expression. Not to mention how crappy the pay is for 99.9% of working artists.
Now you can sit there all smug and give me garbage like "lol no spark" "ain't gonna make it" but who the fuck are you kidding? 99% of you will fail for these very reasons. It just ain't that compelling.

Cool blog.
>>2551268
you are wrong anon. i made 750$ in a single day recently doing around 6 illustrations that literally looked like this. not my dream gig, but insane $/hour ratio.
you think writers are superior? go try to become a professional writer then, see how that goes lol.
also saging because your thread sucks balls.
>>2551268
>I thought I could do something in the freelance world as long as I was smart about it.
>At the end of the day, for a career, you don't decide what you draw.
Are you fucking retarded? Obviously as a freelancer you draw what others tell you to draw and all you decide is whether or not you take the job. That's the very nature of being a commercial artist taking commissions.
I hope this isnt too pretentious,
>made a BeHance today
>loaded up a project of 7 illustrations
they follow a theme and are in my most comfortable style
to get to the point, I'm hoping you guys can give me some criticisms and help develop this style, weed out some more obvious flaws a novice like me cant really grasp.

Nice stuff but currently too tired for crit sorry
Im using the default chalk brush in photoshop and every time i try to change one of the settings (like minimum opacity or opacity control), it resets immediately after i make one stroke.
Does anyone know what the problem is? This is very frustrating
>>2551869
You can click in the lock next to text, but it will change all your brushes, or learn how to use tool presets.
>>2551878
still resets if i click the lock :/
whats the difference with tool presets?
>>2551887
tool presets saves all the changes in the brush settings, in another different menu and have the advantage to name it whatever you want. At least it worked for me because it remains the same no matter I swap the brushes.
Do any of you go into sleep debt for working on your art whilst having typical obligations (work, school, etc.)?
Has it pushed you further at all? Caused problems?
Yes. Yes. Yes.
No. Often I get upset and discouraged at my work, switch to something different, and approach it tomorrow to find my brain has managed to work it out during the night.
Fatigue is shooting yourself in the foot halfway thru a marathon. Pointless.
Not really. Usually get 6-8 hours. Could be worse.
Battle stations thread yours or theirs post em. You could also explain your set up.

Why do anime artists always have fucking bird wings in their pencil holders? Is it to brush away eraser shavings? Why can't they just blow them off the page or wipe with their hand? I've never seen one in a store before.

You have to hunt down your spirit hawk and get one from them.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.
Visit the usual "Artbook Thread" to find your desired books. (Or look in the new sticky)
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.
TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

I broke my dominant hand /ic/, and i'll have a cast for 2 more weeks. What can I expect in terms of drawing skill loss? Is there something I can do to reduce it?
Nothing that you can't recover from. Don't break it again in the future. Now make a cast that can hold a pencil and start using that shoulder you've been honing for a moment like this.
Just tape your drawing implement on.
Drawing skill loss? From two weeks? If you stop riding a bike for two weeks do you suddenly lose the ability to ride? No. It might take you a minute to get back to it but you don't lose anything permanent.
Boise! I want to start graffiti, are there any things I should know before starting this illegal shit? Where do I buy sprays and pens? I'm beginner. :) thankyou.
Graffiti looks like shit.
Grab a can of spray paint and plaster your own brand of shit all over someone elses property.
There's not much advice anyone can give you. If you want it to look good (it wont') you need to be a knowledgeable artist beforehand.
>>2551029
>any things I should know before starting this
Yes. Stick to doing it on your own stuff. How would you like it if some asshole came along and painted your car green with pink dots?
Well. I don't give a fuck. If you want you can come and spray my fucking car. I do what I want and I'm gonna spray every muthafuckin city in the world.
so... i was just watching glen vilppu on new masters academy on his how to draw heads video he said he disagrees with how loomis draws heads. he followed it by saying go for the real thing.if you wanna see it watch the how to draw heads chapter 3 and then skip to 3:03. what does ic think of this with all the loomis memeing going on .
a side not i love both artists
>>2547859
So how does he disagree? Not everyone here has access to that video
hold on lemme watch it...
>>2547865
sec i will transcribe what he said , he was talking about how to build the planes of the head and said, "now this is similar to a lot of the conventions you see about how to take and break down the head. i .. i totally dissagree with a lot of the uh, standard conventions like using a circle for the side of the head *eh* andrew loomis stuff. *pausees* go for the real thing.

How can I draw with this kind of perspective ?
4/5 point perspective and proper use of a light fish lens
>>2549880
He could've eyeballed it he could've loosely used a grid. You don't know that. Anyway it is definitely doable w/o a grid.
Anyone else feel like too much masturbation affects their motivation to draw? I noticed when I do my regular routine of fap, I can't maintain focus, and don't have the will/motivation to continue drawing something. I always half ass everything. But when I stop fapping for a while, I can actually sit down and complete something without getting anxious/ unfocused
>>2549348
Wow nigga are you me?
It doesn't help that my refs folder is 99% porn.
>>2549348
>anxious and distracted whenever I try to draw
>fap several times a day
you're gonna make me abstain, aren't you
I'm gonna be mad as shit if I spend a week taking an extra hour to get to sleep because of an uncomfortable boner and I'm not any more focused
I'm the opposite. After I fap I get the energy to have a 2-3 hour session. Then again, I'm LMAO3MONTH.
I have pencil, paper, eraser.
It's enought to learn and become really fucking good at art?
>>2549222
Yes. That's all I have too.

you're fucking good?

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.
Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, hands aren't important!
