Anyone here a guru with a spray can?
I create string art and I'm currently planning out a new piece. Part of it, however, i want to spray my canvas differently (rather than the usual flat black color).
I've noticed a lot of street artists making outrageous work with spray paint and gloss paper. One technique in particular is layering a bunch of colors and then laying a piece of newspaper or plastic to peel some color off and make a textured look.
My question is, can i create the same effect if I do this on a wooden canvas?? Or will the wood absorb too much?
If anyone knows any other cool techniques i can incorporate into my string art, drop it here.
Here's one example of one of my pieces...
No one have the drawing program workbooks from Watts Atelier? Not the master/painting, the drawing one.

I am looking for the painting ones. Willing to post the drawing ones if some one has the painting ones.

>Hello _artist_! I am a big fan and want to know if you have any tips about getting into the industry?
>Post your work online, draw everyday, draw a lot, especially from life!
Holy shit fuck any young artist who got lucky and successful early on and gives advice like this. These fucking people never mention networking, the necessary dilemma or getting a part-time job just to support your art, or even that luck has a huge fucking factor in whether or not an artist gets noticed and that sometimes, you might just be unlucky for years at a time.
Why the hell do artists never give luck credit to being the reason for their success? Why do they all say if they made it, its because they worked hard and deserve it?
>>2593897
How could you explain luck having a factor in art at all? Is it just luck that someone woke up one day and drew a girl with a dick? Is it luck that people happen to be very into that? Or that they have excessive money to blow on dickgirls? Ultimately it boils down tp you either being found by your skill or you hitting a niche
>>2593899
It's luck that you even got noticed in such a competitive field by someone who was able to give you a big opportunity. And I'm not speaking about people who draw porn on Patreon, I'm talking about people in art-based industries like comics or animation where landing a job at a well-known studio is like trying to purposely get hit by lightning.
>>2593900
>tfw got a decent job at a studio with a portfolio I was personally not proud of
I think you underestimate the number of jobs out there anon. As well as the skill level needed for them.
You're missing a bit of info in your post. "Landing your FIRST job at a well known studio is like trying to get hit by lightning."
Most people at well known studios have been around the block a few times, they have a resume of experience. If you are in fact expecting to land a job at a big name studio as your first gig in the art industry, then yeah you're gonna need a shit ton of luck as well as networking and skill. Most people get there just by building up a catalog of work and references over a few years while also improving their art.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Lets cut to the meat of things, does talent exist? Lets sort this out once and for all
>>2590886
Yes. It's what separates everyone. Those with more talent and those with less. If there were no such thing as talent. Everyone would be equal.
>>2590886
Talent for intellectually demanding tasks = Intelligence.
And I'm guessing you don't have a lot of talent if you have to ask questions like this, right anon?

Have you studied the physics in clothing yet?

>>2590626
Fuck off back to /pol/ cancer.
>>2591341
Well, you obviously didn't
Honestly I feel that this topic is not talked about enough here. It's all good and well to focus on gitting gud but I would like to delve into how a digital artist can truly become successful.
1.) How successful can a digital artist really be? We know there's some infamous outliers like the lady on Patreon, but can the profession offer the lucky few 100k+? 200k+? 300k+?
2.) How would you go about attaining that kind of success? What's the most viable blueprint to at least try?
3.) Where is most of the money? Freelance fantasy? Studio fantasy? Film advertising? Comics? etc.
A lot of people here have no idea about the business aspects of the art industry, but I'm hoping there's a few that can educate.
>>2589217
You seem to be treating digital art as if it's not very obviously much bigger and more lucrative (in a general sense) than all other mediums. This makes it seem like you've either been living under a rock for the last two decades (and should just do some googling to get you acquainted with the modern world), or you're otherwise not intelligent enough to warrant giving answers to.
Here are some things for you to google:
"How much money does an illustrator artist make"
"How much money does a concept artist make"
"How much money do comic book artists make"
>>2589217
"digital art" is not a profession, it's simply the medium that most clients require you to work in.
You've got to understand that digital art will always be shit on by traditional artists because of the lineage and culture that comes with it.
Reducing all of your artistic tools to a computer and a tablet is pretty weak and even if what you do looks good, you'll still be seen as some nerdy art fuck rathet than a true artist that has a gallery (not a fucking deviant art).
But now digital art is what's the hot shit in the business. It's easier and faster so it's better for the industry.
But deep within if you truly want to be an Artist of the soul and not of the paycheck, you're not gonna make it with just digital art.
I know I'm gonna get shit on because you guys are heavily digital oriented but this is what I've seen as someone who's spent two years in French Art Schools.
I want to learn how to sketch cleanly but loosely. Like the guy in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIaTjqTbK2U
I studied product design and while my presentation drawings and renderings end up looking nice and clean, I am ashamed of my exploration sketches because I have poor line control and they end up looking like doodles instead of professional work. I want to enter a very competitive field and everything should look as good as it could, so...
>How can I practise ideation/thumbnail sketching for product design so I can make tens of iterations that look clean and presentable? Any online resources or books that you recommend?
>>2594113
The answer is in the video you posted. Draw more.
>>2594139
With that kind of insightful and amazing advice that you are providing for free, why aren't you teaching at Art Center, RISD or Parsons? Seriously, I would have paid for someone to tell me that a few years ago.
>>2594153
Making cleaner drawings and correcting the problem of "poor line control... looking like doodles" is a matter of drawing more.
can u be good at drawing even if you have an average/bad minds eye???
yes, but how good depends on what kind of drawing. minds eye can also be developed, like anything else.
what are the "artist" version of cd markers?
I need a spectrum of colors with this fine point and that "lucid indeleble" (have to draw on plastic)
>>2593909
Why can't you just use the cd markers in OP pic? It doesn't need to say "for le pro artists" on it to draw with.
Uni Posca
>>2594224
mfhfmf yes.
When I was younger I used to draw all day everyday. It was all I wanted to do and all that made me happy. But recently I've lost my passion for art. I never feel like drawing and I literally have to sit down and fucking force myself to do it. And when I do I get frustrated/bored after like an hour or so. I haven't made a complete work since God knows when. Should I just give up on art?
>>2593671
Not only should you give up art but you should also give up your boy pusspuss, catch aids, and die for shitting up my board.
Anyone ever use Spectrum Noir markers? How do they stack up to Copics or Prismacolors?
You can get a six pack of these for 7.94 at Joann Fabrics (but with a 50% off coupon that seems to be in the ad literally every week), so 1.32 a piece which seems like a good deal.
Worst case scenario is they aren't as good as copics. If you feel its worth a shot, go for it.
>>2593323
Yo where do you get the coupons
Never tried your brand OP, but don't they have those samples on display?
Usually what would make the difference for me is the brushpen which seems to not be equally as interesting on those you mentioned.
The closest thing to a Copic I've come across for cheaper is the Touch by Shin Han art which has a similar brush pen but still, ink quality is not as spectacular as Copic. For experiments/practice however, they're perfect, and about a third of the price.
>2593351
I see those 40 to 50% coupons all the time at my local Michael's here in Canada personally, maybe try their website/flyer?
does any know what program Doxy uses to draw with?
Also what program do you guys use to draw/paint digitally
Doxy uses Sai
>>2589454
wow, sai can do all those tweaks he does. Even tilting selected parts
>>2589451
Really like his art.
Does he still make any marty comics or does he just posted in patreon?
How come people who finally git gud don't do anything worth while with their skill (imo atleast)? I look at online artists like sinix or people like feng and, while they're skilled, they don't really do anything, they don't really produce any content or tell stories or make people feel emotions. They don't create stuff aside from samey landscapes or cute girls. They've obviously worked hard to git gud but it seems to me like a lot of people just git gud to git gud and don't really want to do anything with the skill they've worked so hard to acquire. I see a kinda similar attitude on /ic/ where people just want to get furry commissions or draw cute anime girls. Idk maybe I just have different goals and don't understand their viewpoint.
Do you think I'm being an unfair retard? What do you guys plan to do once you git gud?
>>2589262
maybe because all their work goes into commercial projects, and most of that is internal work
concept art and fanart are dead-ends
>>2589262
NDA look it up.
