So... I got permanently banned from paypal. Now what? What other ways are there to accept payments for commissions? Does anyone NOT use paypal, or accept money without showing your name?

I've heard about this thing called stripe which is just a direct credit card payment; don't take me at my word though because I wasn't really paying too much attention. I'd look into that.

Lemme guess op, you actually picked the option that you draw smut, right?

Anybody on this board into watercolo(u)r?
I recently picked up a small pack of them and messed around with it for the first time this evening which resulted in an ok-ish looking whale.
Even though I'm using shitty thin paper, I think it was a lot of fun, and a bunch of art that I could find looked really cool.
Would be great if somebody could post some cool works/artists or interesting techniques

Does anyone else here do traditional art because of the possibility that the internet and computers may not function one day?
like say for instance , the whole world goes crazy and gets nuked or emp'd or say they make the internet shut off for civillians. your digital art will not survive that, art on traditional mediums will survive (if it doesnt get evaporated that is).
i think that is the real problem with digital art is that it relies on the computer and the internet for its success. thus making it somewhat impermanent in compairison with traditional.
thoughts?

>i think that is the real problem with digital art is that it relies on the computer and the internet for its success
That problem affects a lot more than art. If the world's infrastructure fails that much, art is going to be the least of your worries. Long-term archiving of digital images is an actual problem, but there are plenty of solutions. This is a stupid reason to avoid digital.

oh i dont avoid digital for sure, i know its important to use digital in professional stuff , but yeah i just like the fact that traditonal is on physical objects and is safe from website shutdowns or computer failure.

I did this watercolor/white gouache sketch in a coffee shop of these two old women talking. I recognize that the quality of the picture is shit, but I'm wondering what else I can improve on. Should I grab a smaller brush? Should I spend more time planning/drawing? What can help my paintings progress? I'm worried that I'm plateauing because I need more third-party help.

Medium is watercolor/white gouache on Moleskine's smallest watercolor book. I think it's 5 x 3.5 inches or something close to that.

Thanks

My bet is that you don't want to hear this, so you can keep being cute with your moleskine, but the #1 thing I think you can do is work bigger. Like, 3x bigger. Right now you can cop out of detail like faces because its so small. You also have a much easier time managing the wet/dry mechanics of the whole image.

DESU it look pretty good, but a big part of that is the small size hides your bullshit messiness. If you honestly want to get better and didn't just start this thread to show off, start working bigger immediately.

I'm asking for assistance. Why the fuck would I show off something I'm not proud of?
>bullshit messiness
I can paint larger, but I have a hard time carrying around large watercolor paper for coffee shop sketches like this.
>work bigger
Okay, that's advice. I'll try that.

Is the ability to copy photos exactly( in other words photorealism) a necessary skill? Is it possible to be a good artist without it?

I was never that good at copying photos, let alone achieve photorealism, though I could draw from life rather decently(again not to the hyper detail of photorealism)

Perhaps if I put some time into(and by some I mean A LOT OF TIME) MAYBE I could get something KIND of close, but again I'm not very good

I figure the time would better spent doing figure studies or perspective study

Is this book good for a beginner? or should i just go for stuff like James Gurney and Scott Robertson books?
2 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I wouldn't say that book is very good at all as a learning book. It very loosely touches upon each of the basics, with just the basest of each fundamental. Most of it is just pages of finished artwork by various artists/illustrators to serve as inspiration, so if you want that, go ahead. You should go Robertson, or something more specific like the books you'll find through the sticky, if you actually want to learn things proper.

There's a good segment about how to find the golden ratio on your page, regardless of proportions, for compositionl purposes, but you can find that info online I'm sure, and it's not the first thing you should learn when "getting good".

Are the W&N Pigment Markers the biggest art supply scam currently around or just "too ahead of its time"?

>Due to the ingredients, doesn't blend so well with any other markers (water-based, alcohol, acrylic)
>Needs its own specific paper, or things like Yupo to fully utilize the gimmick
>Soaks through any other types of paper, blending is completely fucked because of that
>"100 years of lightfastness" slogan to justify the price (on par, sometimes surpassing, higher end markers such as Copic)
>Currently without a refill system, must buy duplicate pens (such as their white blender)
>Due to the way they suggest to people RE: cleaning off the nibs, product runs out at a faster rate
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
They're a step on the right direction at least, being lightfast unlike those expensive dye-based makers. I only have 3 grays but I like them well enough. They bleed less than Copics, but also tend to ruin the surface of normal paper if you layer more than a couple of coats. You don't really need their fancy paper, they actually work really well on the back side of regular marker paper.
>>
their white marker is cool, but yeah. trying to clean off white nib any time after mixing wound up to a lot of the paint being lost. could try to do extra stuff to lessen the paint loss.

i've also seen a review vid of someone attempting to use them with a brush as a bootleg watercolour. ended up pretty awkward
>>
Are these better than alcohol markers ? What are the differences beetween them ? Could we youse the two for the same kind of drawing ?

Personals?
