Drew this in about 10-15 minutes from imagination while waiting at my dentist's office. How good am I, and what do I need to work on?

Drawn with 2H, HB and 2B pencils on Strathmore series 400 sketch paper.

It's cool that Feng is bringing something recent that everyone on /ic/ has been worrying about. I think Feng browses /ic/ anyways, so that's why he knows.
>>
>>2877784
Do you seriously think that only /ic/ talks about it? It's a common discussion point in the industry. I highly doubt Feng comes to /ic/, and if he did I doubt that this video was directly because of it.

12 hours is not a lot. if you were fully rested, you could work like 10 hours at most, anyway.

best idea is choose your best previous work, and probably try to improve it a little in that time.

can /ic/ redpill me on artcenter (preferably with citations and shiet), particularly their illustration program?

what's the likelihood for alumni to find jobs (employment rate), what are some example positions, and what does a typical schedule and salary look like for an industry position?

any redirects to resources also appreciated

I've heard their illustration program is decent. Art Center as a school is treated at god-tier education only for their Entertainment Design and Industrial Design programs, not for their illustration program.

The school has a good reputation though and teachers who work in the industry, so it's very good for getting connections or getting scouted. It won't magically make you an amazing artist though or promise you a job, but if you do come out with skills you will be quickly noticed and get work.

If money is an issue then there are tons of other places both in person and online that will give you a similar quality education for a fraction of the price. The only difference is you won't get a piece of paper at the end of it and you won't get the same face-to-face opportunities to make useful connections in the industry.
>>
From what I've heard the illustration program has gone to shit and the entertainment design program is decent but nowhere near the quality it was in the 80s and 90s when it was still ridiculously hard to get in. Now the school seems to be full of snowflakes and beginner-tier rich kids. No citations but know people who have dropped out of AC because they were disappointed by the quality of it.

I'm trying to publish a wide-format series (minimum image width 1440) in the manner typical of any comicbook, manga, webcomic, etc. - by which I mean "first, previous, next, latest" buttons, an archive page and whatever other simple stuff you'd expect to find. I'm going to publish at regular intervals so scheduling posts in advance is a plus.

I was told to throw a "web comic theme" on a tumblr page to get what I'm after instantly (and not have to pay for hosting or worry about how the page will display on different browsers/devices), but tumblr has a hard limit of 1280 width on images. I have minimal experience butchering HTML, and don't want to spend days suffering through that again, so I'm looking for an easier way.

>Those of you who publish your own work/have your own websites, how do you do it?
>Would you recommend a comic hosting site like tapastic? And if so, what site allows 1440 or wider (tapastic's limit is 940)?
>If I should get my own webhosting, which would you recommend? Google started doing webhosting, are they good?
>If I host my own site, are there templates that can handle wide format serializations and have the simple features I'm interested in, or am I doomed to days of butchering HTML/CSS again?

Feel free to share any related advice or experience.

No one willing to share anything about hosting your own content?

At this point I think I'm going to get Dreamhost and install comicpress and hope I can get the shit working how I want, but my lack of confidence means I'll probably put this shit off and keep working on other endeavors.

You just got to try and see what works. But perhaps you should check if there's an interest for your stuff first before you start. hosting your own site.

Is better to practice a little bit everyday or a lot just once in a week?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
A little bit everyday, then once you get to intermediate level, it's better just to do once a week, since most of time it's thinking more so than drawing.
>>
A little bit every day.

An hour a day for 7 days is better than a 12 hour marathon once per week in my opinion. Also a little bit every day is better for building a routine, and gradually increasing it when you have time.

I also disagree with >>2877716 that once a week is better for intermediates.

What's the best way to handle multiple paintings or comic pages /ic/?

Supposing that you are commissioned to make 7 or 8 full color comic pages
>Do you start them all at the same time?
>Do you fully complete a page before even starting the next one?
>Do you ____ all the pages at the same time? (Inking, blocking, sketching, coloring).

I'm pulling my hairs out. I feel so stressed right now. And when googling for help I found the Zeigarnik effect.

>If we don’t finish a task, there’s mental tension. This mental tension keeps the unfinished task more prominent in our memory, whereas completion of the task provides closure, and a release of the tension. This is what is known as the Zeigarnik Effect.

Having incomplete tasks and works produces a lot of stress, so I'm thinking that the solution would be simply to work in only one single panel at the same time and not starting anything else until this panel is completed 100%. But I have never heard of of other artists working like this.

Well /ic/, how do you handle it?

Same. Right now I'm procrastinating hardcore on some things I don't know how to change this.

There is that saying "When you want to forget something, write it down" so I guess that unfinished ideas really do stick more to the brain than completed ones.

I guess the next time I start a project I'll forbid myself from sketching more than one panel at the time and see what happens.

i am also interested in knowing about comic work flow. like how many pages should i start at a time, should i story board all of them first then draw them or what. and how many should i be working on at a time and all that

I either take a break from art and will watch a movie or read or listen to music, or I will do some studies since that requires less creativity than creating original art.

Hallo,

I'm pretty new to painting things in photoshop. So I know nothing about brush settings. I'm trying to as accurately replicate the strokes. the brush, used in this image. Some help would be rad.

>>
>>2877574
It's literally just got flat tones and gradients in that image, so can be done with just about any opaque brush such as a hard round, and then a soft brush for the gradients. You can keep things on separate layers and use clipping masks to keep the shapes clean if you want. The image is pixelated to hell, but it looks like the background might have some slight texture to it, which can be achieved either through manually painting it in, glazing with a texture brush such as a chalk brush, or overlaying a scanned texture of something like watercolors.
>>
>>2877574
>I'm pretty new to painting things in photoshop.

You might want to consider using Krita which is very similar to photoshop (same layout, almost the slame hotkeys), is open source and great variety of natural feeling brushes.

However I don't think that brushes are your issue. That painting doesn't look like it would need a special brush to be painted as it has very clear lines with a bit of texture which you could fake by putting a paper texture layer on top with multiply by 20% or so.
>>
>>2877584
>natural feeling brushes.

This is exactly my gripe with photoshop, none of the brushes feel natural. I will have to check Krita out then.

Anyone have this problem? I always end up overthinking it.
