Draw every day even if you suck anon. It's the only way.
>>
>>2974213
I've never understood this meme on /ic/, you clearly want to draw enough that you're willing to spend 300$ on a tablet, yet you don't have passion for it ?

I mean I understand loss of motivation sometimes, but do you never get that bubbly feeling in your stomach, out of the blue, once you have a new idea or think of something to draw ? that shit will literally not let me sleep at night sometimes.

just look up to other/better artists work, in line with what you want to do, and if that really does not make you want to draw then that 300$ was probably a bad investment.
>>
>>2974362
I't because you know your art is shit and will never live up to your ideas.

Is it possible to consistently improve your art when you're either studying a non-art related subject or are working a non-art-related full-time job?

Asking because my year of NEETdom is coming to an end and while I did improve a lot in some regards (anatomy, gesture) I neglected digital painting completely even though that was the reason I started drawing in the first place.

It's just so intimidating to me to switch to digital, I don't have any fucking clue how people do it tbqh

Yeah, I was able to by drawing whenever I had the time, usually it was an hour in the morning each day and five and more on the weekends.

You gotta make the leap into the scary areas dipshit, how else are you gunna git gud?

But yeah it is. You just focus on your art outside of your full time job, like a hobby.

How do I make the leap tho

I want to shade shit and while I know the theory behind it, I just cannot get anything done, it is too intimidating to me.

The lines are wonky, the values are muddy and I have no idea how to improve.

I don't even have a clear order in which I begin the shading, cast shadow first? Form shadow first?

And don't even get me started on these countless brushes, just makes it even worse.

I tried to put my OC in a position and I want to know what's good, what's bad, and what I have to improve on and how I could do so. Same thing with the style as well.

I would post this on a furry board but I don't think 4chan has one. I'm new so I could be wrong

What do u mean by "don't forget to sage"? I've been looking around Google and the best I could find was a page about an artist named Sage that was a surrealist. Am I missing something? Is this a common saying that I've never heard until now?

Hey there! Welcome to this board.

This is actually a informal and unmoderated message board for art improvement. So it features unfinished or polished art for critique without any sale. On the downside, you might encounter some racial slurs that might be offensive to you because of it's unmoderated nature, but none of the users here mean any serious harm.

If you're looking for art sales, you might be better off interacting with Reddit. I wish I knew some communities.

Everyone knows the basic principles but how to do advanced hardcore linework?

share tips books ...

that's still basic linework in the same way writting a book uses the same alphabet as you

there is no advanced hardcore alphabet

the difference is in the knowledge the artist has to write with those basic letters/ lines
>>
>>2975349
That kind of work is more drafting than it is art, taken to an extreme.

All that image is, is a solid knowledge of perspective, and the patience to go into that detail, and working big enough to carry the level of detail.

I'm trying to start a new cassette label soon but I'm still looking for a good logo. The pic attached is a sketch I made but I don't really know if I like it.

If someone has any experience making logo's or might want to do a sketch that would be great! I'll post some pics to illustrate what kinda style I want. I'm paying for everything myself so budget is next to none...

What are some good resources for learning character design?

How to learn what works and what doesn't? How to come up with successful designs? What should I be spending time on most for learning it?

Turns anything into a chatacter and see if it works, a pair of headphones, a screw, a mountain, look up on internet for different kind of clothes and weird shit.
Convoluted designs usually are not appealing but work great in horror contexts, check the color theory, colors play an important roll in character designing.
The context is also important like is not the same in sci-fi as in fantasy as in real life histories.
Make different versions of the same concept, combine different themes.
Capeshit needs unique concepts for example, a thriller like or mafia story will need characters that feel real, horror shit will need grotesque stuff and bizarre looking monsters.
>>
>>2982569
You are just pointing out the obvious. I want some actual resources and learning materials that go a little more in depth than a post that says 'colors are important!' 'shapes are important!'

Why is this painting the most famous piece of art in history?

Oh shut up idiot normies just latched onto it
>>
>>2982170
It was stolen and then people made rumors about it. Then they found it againand the rumors never died.
>>
>>2982170
For a couple of reasons:

Context - at the time, it was the first painting to use one point perspective in a portrait. He also broke tradition with having her at a 3/4 angle, and it was very scandalous for a unmarried woman to look someone in the eye. (Remember, 1503)

It was widely known among artists, and it changed painting in Europe when it was displayed. DaVinci was a famous artists even while alive, so his works were famous just because of his name.

But, the general public really wasn't that aware of it, until it was stolen, in 1911, then it became "famous", and has been a thing since.

That's the smell of the product, fool.

I don't use it much, but it's never made my paper go yellow. Maybe it's the paper?
>>
>>2982541
im using Arches
>>
>>2982534
Considering that masking fluid is made out of latex, it's probably always going to smell like condoms.

You could try using wax resist (just rub a 100% beeswax candle over the area), but that's harder to control an will give you more of a textured look, not crisp edges around a white area.
Some people also just... use white. Mixing with white is genereally considered poor form, but quite a few painters use white to bring back highlights. Purists will still scoff at that, of course, but it seems to get more and more acceptable again.

I like drawing, as a matter of fact I like drawing so much that I don't think there's anything else I'm really "decent" at other than drawing. And I don't think there's any thing else I want to do. I turned 19 this year and I graduated high school last year. I don't post my art in many places and I lurk on /ic/ sometimes. What do you think? Should I keep pushing? I value straight talk so tell me what you think. (I won't get asshurt, and If I do, call me the out on it.) I need eyes other than my own and other than people I know cause of possible bias. What do I need to work on in your opinion? What are some strengths you see?

I'd like to hear you guys' opinions.

Hey man.

I think you need to work on pretty much everything. It's good that you have passion but you seem to lack pretty much all the fundementals. I'd recommend posting this stuff in the beginner thread or draw thread.

What do you want to with your drawings? Do you want to be an illustrator or an artist? Is this a hobby or do you want to do this for real?
>>
>>2982266

I would like to do this as a career if possible. I'd like to be an Illustrator (concept artist?). My bad on not posting in the beginner thread. That's my fault.

I'm currently reading Scott Robertson's How to Draw and Color and Light by James Gurney.

Well it's great that you're reading that stuff! You might want to look at some Andrew Loomis books as well to get your anatomy down.

If you want to bee a concept artist or illustrator for the gaming/movie industry you really need to learn Photoshop too. Learning 3D would also be a good idea nowadays. It also teaches you a lot about how light works etc.

I can't really say much about your drawing. Sorry. It's really an amateur piece but I can see that you put some thought into it which is good.

You should probably practice really basic stuff before trying to create anything elaborate like a hero character with a landscape in the background.

Also look through the stuff in the /ic/ sticky.

the thing i usually look for in empty posters is a good reason for it looking empty. otherwise its stylized for no reason and youre basically just showing an exercise in reduction.

Is he using a soft brush most of the time and going from low contrast to high contrast in order to create more detail?

Can you elaborate a bit more about this process?

>Is he using a soft brush most of the time
No, he's using it selectively
>and going from low contrast to high contrast in order to create more detail?
No, he's creating detail by using small brushes and hard edges, and has an extremely tight control on lighting and contrast and values. He has a style that uses more soft edges in some places where most people would use hard edges, and has developed that style well.
>Can you elaborate a bit more about this process?
I just did. You can't teach his style, you have to develop it on your own by mastering lighting, value, and brushwork. You can't cheat your way to this style of painting, or download brushes, you have to put the work in.

play around with opacity/flow settings. Even using 60% hardness with med to low opactiy/flow setting as the strokes builds up it looks smooth. So you can control which area you want to be smooth/soft by applying more strokes.
