Black historical figures that were born before the year 1,000 AD.
I feel ashamed that I can't think of many, the only ones I can think of are the Egyptian pharaohs and that's disputed.

I wish I could personally strangle the life from your decrepit body, I long to watch your eyes turn red as your skin turns blue, and feel your windpipe crack beneath my fingers.
I want you to see me as the last thing in this world, then I'm going to carve EGYPTIANS WEREN'T BLACK ON YOUR TOMBSTONE.

It was on the losing side of the war, I think.
Long time it was probably the growth of nationalism and the desire of democracy.

I'm 6 months away from my HS graduation and plan on getting my Phd in History (Haven't decided on a field yet).
Now i'm not expecting an Indiana Jones style of history with lots of traveling and exploring anceint ruins. However I also know that it won't just be me researching the same books everyday.
What I wan't to know is if going into History at all is worth it; before I plan on shipping out from HS.
>>51210
No. You have yet to actually practice history yet. High school doesn't really prepare you for it. Take a couple of history classes (you'll have to for basic studies anyway) before you decide. But if you're not going to teach or go to law school, it's a waste.
>>51210
You want anthropology, then for grad school you can specialize in archaeology
What's your alternative? I'd say it would be nice, if you pick your classes wisely. It can also be important to have a wide basis of knowledge if you plan on having a strong academic path.
What caused Japan to side with the Axis powers? I can't imagine it had much to do with actual political ideology. Did Hitler ever acknowledge Japan or meet with Hirohito? Also, I remember seeing on /his/ not too long ago about how Hirohito was evil which I always thought was weird because, if I remember correctly, he wasn't tried for any war crimes (at the request of MacArthur).

Can we have a reasoned, rational debate about this and the numbers killed?
Personally I have no doubt 10,000's even 100,000's died in labour camps from starvation and typhus, but this idea that 6 million jews alone were exterminated mostly though gas chambers (that there are zero surviving examples that have been proved to be used) is pure fantasy. Purely from a logistics standpoint the idea of setting up racial "extermination" camps seem infeasible and counter productive to the German state in the middle of a life or death war for their very survival.
What is your opinion on the subject anon?
>>50680
There are literally tens of thousands of accounts from survivors, Allied soldiers, locals, and camp guards exactly how the conditions were and how they were exterminated methodically. Go read some of that before you you come posting stuff that you read of of /pol/ inforgraphics before you shit up the board next time
>Inb4 but the Allies forced all those Germans to give those accounts in collaboration with DA JOOS to make da Nadzis look bad!
I tried to have a discussion about this on multiple occations. But pic related is what happens.
So I am not going to try and argue about this anymore, but I'll just leave this comment Adolf Eichman made after he was captured.
>'I called my men into my Berlin office ... and formally took leave of them. 'If it has to be', I told them, 'I will gladly jump into my grave in the knowledge that five million enemies of the Reich have already died like animals.'

Nobody is claiming that the Jews were exterminated mainly through gas chambers. The primary agents of death, as in all concentration camps throughout history, were disease and malnutrition. That carrying out an operation like the Holocaust in the middle of a world war was counter-productive is certainly true; however, I don't think the sort of person who blames an entire ethnic group for all of the ills in the world and tries to exterminate them all would be swayed from their course by mere logistical difficulty.

http://www.irishcentral.com/roots/history/Little-known-tale-of-generous-Turkish-aid-to-the-Irish-during-the-Great-Hunger.html
>The often told story of how Turkey was one of the only countries to come to the aid of Ireland during the Great Hunger will be the focus of a new movie, “Famine.”
>At a time when Ireland was enduring the terrible loss of a million dead and the mass exodus of a million more during the Great Hunger the story goes that the Ottoman Sultan, Khaleefah Abdul-Majid I, declared his intention to send £10,000 to aid Ireland's farmers. However, Queen Victoria intervened and requested that the Sultan send only £1,000, because she had sent only £2,000 herself.
>So the Sultan sent only the £1,000, but he also secretly sent five ships full of food. The English courts attempted to block the ships, but the food arrived in Drogheda harbor and was left there by Ottoman sailors. That £10,000 that the Sultan pledged to the Irish would be worth approximately £800,000 ($1.7m) today.
Thoughts on this?
>>50591
Interesting stuff. Do you think there was a reason other than humanitarianism for it?
>>50658
Many foreign people worked at Topkapi Palace. One of the physicians there was Irish. That could've been the reason, who knows
But if it was, it wouldn't be strong enough considering the empire itself was undergoing a terrible economic crisis
You're not related to any famous people of history, are you anon?
