so, /his/torians, where are you at on the path to enlightenment?
I recently had a bit of an epiphany about how i have been living my life, leading do a path of destruction.
i had read about the teachings of Buddha in the past, and after more current research, am embarking on a journey to end suffering, and live a better life.
What's your story? and currently practicing Buddhists on here?
achieved it a while ago
now its reinforced every now and then at varying levels of intensity, other enlightened beings will understand
>>56723
Actually I don't understand since Enlightenment is a 0-point where there is no improvement or degrading whatsoever, just 1 standard of mindset in which everything is at peace so if there's any varying levels of intensity you're not doing it right.
>>56816
you're not doing it right
i cant just be enlightened and sit around doing nothing, change is dynamic
Why did Hitler invade the Soviet Union?
Why didn't he focus on the Western powers first?
What was he thinking? Did the attack make sense?
>>56619
He thought the Soviets were going to invade him and his only hope was a preemptive strike.
Also he wanted the large recourses of western Russia to help fuel even more devlopment
>>56916
Couldn't he have waited until he dealt with the west? It seems like he misread the situation. USSR wasn't planning to invade and were caught completely unawares.
>>56619
Results of the Russo-Finnish War made Russia look weak, along with Stalin being a retard and killing all of his good generals made invading Russia look appealing.
Was Dresden actually bombed? Or is this just Nazi propaganda?
Did you remember muh Dresden 425 burjillion today, /his/?
>Was Dresden actually bombed?
yes
>just Nazi propaganda?
no, people die in bombings
war sucks, people die
>>56592
Yes, Dresden got bombed, but they deserved it.
Dresden is hilarious. It was something Germany deserved, and how nazi's cry about it is top keks
that being said only a few people died in it, if that
Did Pinochet come up with the best way to dispose of communists?
Yes he was absolutely based
Installing him was the best thing the US ever did
>>56689
The man literally gave zero fucks and he made Chile the best its ever been doing it
What causes wars? Why has it been opted for as a solution for disputes so often?
What defines the number of nations involved, the duration, the winner, and the consequences? Are there any general ideas that can be applied to all wars, or are wars essentially unique?
/k/ here. Its human nature
>>57370
It's in the nature of rulers anyway, people don't want to die.
>ayy lmao and yee
Sauce?
Let's talk about ships.
Galleys, tall ships, steamers, WWII destroyers, those silly hide-and-wood bowl things some Native Americans made, it doesn't matter.
What's your favorite ship?
I think I'd have to go with Baltimore clippers. All the beauty of a tall ship with all the speed the technology and size can allow.
>>56529
Which native american culture had the most advanced ships?
>>57910
I'm sure some got pretty good at canoe building.
>>56529
i hate galleys
Why did Rome fall?
It didn't. It just transformed from an Empire into a Church.
Too many boylovers
>>56544
this is half true, and i'm too lazy to explain it with so many shitposters, so yeah let's stick to it
How come the Turks always easily beat the crusades?
Home field advantage is a hell of a thing before modern logistics and in unforgiving terrain.
>>56364
How come the Russian always easily beat the Turks?
>>56479
slav biomass tactics.
I hear a lot about how /his/ won't ever be the same philosophical powerhouse that /lit/ is, and i'm wondering whether we even have people on this board who read philosophy. I'd like to ask /his/ what books pertaining to philosophy they've read.
a few recent ones for me:
The Metaphysics - Aristotle
Plato's five dialogues
Discourse on Method - Descartes
Meditations on First Philosophy - Descartes
An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding - Hume
A Treatise of Human Nature - Hume (current read)
>>56227
Why did you read Humes work in reverse order?
What were your thoughts on The metaphysics?
>>56959
What actually happened was i read the first book out of the treatise then went and read the enquiry. now i'm working forward on the treatise again.
The metaphysics is just great. Aristotle starts by looking at the philosophies of his time, discarding all of them and moving forward on his own. The entire system of the metaphysics is amazing for the time of Aristotle and is well worth the read in my opinion. More than that it is also nice to have a solid conception of since it practically becomes dogma for 1800 years after Aristotle's death. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter, Aristotle himself is just an amazing thinker.
>>57170
Interesting, the metaphysics is meant to be one of the more confusing and dry of his works, how did you find it style wise?
I'm glad there is finally a philosophy board. I will be here to talk about the nature of consciousness with you other smartfags soon.
>>56198
What is a man?
>>56232
A miserable little pile of secrets.
Were the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki really nessesary measure? Or it was a crime against humanity?
>>55790
Vae Victis
To be honest, the incendiary bombings of Tokyo were far more lethal to the Japanese spirit, but because of Imperial propaganda didn't have as much impact on the population at the time.
Also, not trying to justify 'muricans or anything, but these were designed to be specifically deployed on areas with low population density. It was more of a display of Western power to the Soviets than anything else.
This topic has been beaten to death. It's pointless to give answers because every war is a tragedy. Every violent death inflicted upon innocents is a disgrace.
>inb4 edgelords come in here and start whining
Everyone has bloodlust, everyone wants to feel like a big man by pushing the button or shooting a gun. But it's futile. We'll never find happiness except in the arms of our family and loved ones. Everything else is a waste of time and breath.
Karl Marx appreciation thread
>He thinks he's being funny
It's actually quite hilarious.
Didn't he hate Marxists?
I was always under the impression he'd be disgusted to see the USSR or PRC.
>>55761
I have no problem with Marx. I only h8 SJWs and Plebbitors.
Anyone remember this show?
Here's some episodes and a channel with a few uploaded
https://youtu.be/LoPSg1sWdaw
https://youtu.be/PYF8Dfkuj_s
Do you think it was an accurate replication of battles between warriors thoughout history?
Is this show going to be the closest we'll come to being able to examine different cultures battle stategy, and how it would hold up against others?
I thought they did well in examining and testing the weaponry of each group.
>wanted to discuss warriors I'm history
>/his/ is too busy with trap threads
Ah well
>>56666
I saw one episode a few years ago where they claimed an ojibwe warrior would beat a gladiator. It looked pretty stupid desu. The natives they had in it were really angry and insecure the whole time, too.
>>56714
The show has been criticized for misrepresentation of the warriors behavior in a number of episodes, along with biased results.
Despite this, I often find it to be alright. It's never going to be 100% in what-if testing.
Can we agree that European colonialism was the most peaceful and progressive era sub Saharan Africa has ever seen?
>>55284
many people died, it wasn't a good time to be an african.
It's still a bad time to be an african, but at least wholesale genocide isn't directly endorsed.
>>55322
>but at least wholesale genocide isn't directly endorsed.
Well, except for all the wholesale genocide African peoples do to each other, yeah.
>>55322
The reason Rwanda happened was because of Germans and Belgians demarcating who was and was not Tutsi or Hutu.
Finally a board suitable to discuss Western and Eastern esoteric traditions on, through the secular lenses of history and anthropology! Thank you based Hiro!
I would like to kick off with a book recommendation. I just finished "The Book of Black Magic" by A.E. Waite and I love it. Waite offers a detailed but skeptical look at several influential grimoires of Renaissance era occultism. He reproduces many significant parts of these curious and rare books in English and provides lots of insightful commentary. I will doubtless return to it for reference again and again.

I am mostly unfamiliar with the subject but it definitely interests me. I look forward to posting with you, friendo.
The Complete Grimoire of Pope Honorius by David Rankine and Paul Henry Barron is also an excellent read if you are into grimoires. Joseph H. Peterson's Lemegeton is another one of my favorites.
Could anyone recommend a book similar to The Secret Teachings of All Ages by Manly P. Hall? It's an excellent read but Hall was himself a devoted Christian mystic, so I'd like a book covering the entire general history of Western esotericism but less biased.
