What if the Mongol empire is never halted from wrecking the middle east. What is the fate of the region, Islam and Africa? Does Islam get wiped out what happens to the crusaders states and the mamluks?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I don't think there were a lot of places they didn't wreck.

They didn't slaughter native populations if the native populations gave them stuff and didn't fight them.

If they did, we wouldn't have either China or Russia, and the world would be dramatically better.
>>
>>1578729
The Mongols weren't about wiping out Islam. The Mongols ate that shit up like it was horse-jerky. They did not ethnically cleanse anybody because they found all cultures had something to provide. Many Mongols adopted the faiths and customs of the peoples they conquered. All that would have happened if the Mongols conquered the entire Middle East is that there would have been another Khanate or two once things fell apart.

Actually, the military Mongol ruler of the middle east at the time was Christian. Helugu

Did the Huns have slaves/a system of slavery?

Ignore that map. It's pure bullshit.

And of course. All ancient civilizations had slavery. Hunnic slaves turn up in Priscus and Procopius I believe.

Huns never controlled that much of the Caucasus, the Sassanids literally wrecked an army of Huns outside of Ctesiphon and again in Armenia/Georgia.
>>
>>1578432
They didn't control anything other than the Pannonian Basin and a few other surrounding tributary tribes. People forget that the Huns were on the move, they didn't hold Alania at the same time as Sirmium hundreds of miles away.

Is it historically correct to say almost all of the blacks in the american continent are descendants of african slaves?

Poor ruse, but Obama actually is a descendant of slaves through his mother.

It is not meant to be a bait or a ruse.
I am legitimately curious.

I said almost all blacks.Obviously there is immigration too,not just slave trade.

Didn't the majority come from slavery?were there blacks in brazil and in usa before the europeans brought them?

>Growing popular sympathy for the Vietnamese National Liberation Front seems to have pervaded a number of countries in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The first signs of such sympathies in Sweden occurred in the late ‘60s, when the government stopped permitting the sales of the Carl Gustav M45, aka the Swedish K submachine gun, to the United States, which until then had been a weapon of choice among CIA and MACV-SOG operatives. The first explicit signs of Swedish support for the VC, however, emerged on May 27, 1971, when Foreign Minister Torsten Nilsson announced that Sweden had sent $550,000 worth of medical and humanitarian aid to the NLF, as well as to communist forces in Laos and Cambodia.
He hastened to emphasize, however, that none of that aid took the form of weaponry, leaving yet another bit of irony to the Vietnam War: the only Swedish ordnance to see combat use in Vietnam was used primarily by the Americans.

Combination of a brilliant Cortez and a very fractured and resentful "empire". That bubble was probably bound to pop at the next bad harvest or plague. That's not to diminish Cortez' feats though, he got it to pop in just the way he wanted.

I keep reading that the Marshall plan was key to Germany's economic recovery after the war. Is this just sticky Cold War propaganda, or is there actual truth to it?
As far as I can tell the Allies extorted much more wealth from Germany than the US lended to it between 48-52?

>I keep reading that the Marshall plan was key to Germany's economic recovery after the war. Is this just sticky Cold War propaganda, or is there actual truth to it?
It's about half-and-half. One needs only look at the halves of Germany to see this. The USSR kept trying to take shit away from the DDR. The USA poured resources into the FRG. DDR still fared very well compared to pretty much any other Soviet state, however, it was not anywhere near as prosperous as the FRG. So it was important, but Germany being Germany was another important factor.

>As far as I can tell the Allies extorted much more wealth from Germany than the US lended to it between 48-52?
It's called an investment with positive returns.

You attribute that to the MP? Not the difference between capitalist and socialist economy?

>I keep reading that the Marshall plan was key to Germany's economic recovery after the war
Stop reading American sources then. Marshall plan mattered only in the lens of American propaganda, Germany and the rest of Europe were already recovering and rebuilding when it got instituted and it represented, at best, a small bump.

Also the plan isn't extensive enough to seriously rebuild the economy by itself, not when it comes to some of the largest economies in the world. You can see it with Greece today, the EU, the largest single economy in the world, barely managed to bail out Greece and Greece itself is a relatively minor economic force. All of EU could never bail out Spain or Italy not to mention France or Germany.

Don't get me wrong, Marshall plan helped but it's been MASSIVELY overplayed by American Cold War propaganda as some sort of crucial element of Europe's post war economic miracle which, frankly, I consider insulting. Europe's post war miracle came because of Europe and not because of America.

- lost most Greek connections to Anatolia

- a small weak nation state which was vulnerable to the Germans in the 1940s and prey for the EU in the 21st Century

Do any Greeks hold this sentiment? I think in hindsight a Greek-Turkish federation would have been better, less money wasted on those tensions, the Turkish would have been kept secular and Greeks would have had a large internal market to trade with, rather than being saddled with a mismatched currency.

I don't think any combined Turkish-Greek state could actually last. Hence the population exchange, they can't stand eachother.

The loss of Constantinople is universally regarded as a terrible mistake in Greece though. Claiming it was one of the objectives in the Greco-Turkish war but this ended very badly for the Greeks, they lost Constantinople and some of the surrounding territory. At this point, short of Turkey becoming some ISIS puppet state requiring NATO intervention, I don't see Istanbul ever becoming Greek again. Putin has made some threats but that's just Putin being Putin.
