Why did they gradually begin loosing against barbarians? Was there a degradation of Roman military tradition or did knowledge of how to fight effectively just gradually disseminate to the snow niggers like the Goths?

Rome or at least it's generals just began to rely on Barbarians partially to fill their own goals. Another factor would eventually be the growing Judeo-Christian presence in Rome and among its citizens. Worshippers of a man who preaches non-violence are less willing to take up arms then a man who worships Mars the God of war.

Hypothetical anachronistic question:

Who would win between the Romans and the Mongols?

Could the Romans have been the ones to stop the great horde? Bearing in mind that they struggled against Parthian tactics.

Or would the Mongols have been the ones to take down the empire? Would they have ended up in a Catalaunian plains type situation?

Rome, Rome could beat them with auxiliaries and Rome knew how to counter pure horsearcher tactics and pure horsemen armies.
Before you cite Carrhae, The Roman commander was inadequate and he threw away his cavalry on a death and glory last stand.

Assuming the Seal has enough ammo
Assuming the Viking Berserkers have armor and adequate weapons
Assuming the Crusaders are levy and not Frankish knights or fearless Teutonics
Assuming the Spartans are ordered and in a pass
Assuming the Romans are post marian pre imperial non-vets, if they are vets put them above sparta.
Crusader and Viking is also interchangable Berserkers were just dudes with PTSD and Crusaders would have had better weapons armor training and ideals.

I find the idea of this to be interesting.

But what they need in order to not be LARP-tier is something like a god-head or eternal truth that is the equivalent of such concepts in Abrahamic and Dharmic religions and such. Or maybe a greater focus on nature and spirits of the earth and/or earth mother.

Like Platos 'unmoved mover' with the gods as beings underneath that. Maybe if Julian "the apostate" had tried that, Greco-Roman Polytheism could have been saved.

Things /his/ needs to learn to acknowledge:

1. Aurelian was the greatest Roman emperor.

He takes over, Rome is literally just Italy and the Balkans.

It is arguably the weakest force out of the Germanics (now acting slightly united), Gallic Empire (England and France), Palmyrene Empire (Eastern Roman Empire), and Persia.

Aurelian, turn by turn rapes each force and expands Rome almost up to Trajan levels of territory. He does this in six years.

Sure, the second Claudius helped set him up, and Probus helped keep the legacy going, but Auerlian did the heavy lifting. He also totally changed legionary culture. The legions went from literally bidding out the Emperor's seat by auction, to being so bound to the Senate that they refused to propose a replacement for Aurelian.

Why do people think only service sector employees and factory workers belong to the 'proletariat' or working class? Anyone who does not own capital and only makes money through selling his own labor can be considered to belong to the proletariat, including professionals.

I just have a question for those interested in theological philosophy, for fun.

Normally Baptism is performed on an infant and Confirmation is performed on an adolescent.

Now, what I want you to focus on is the timing aspect.

Let's say the time span between Baptism and Confirmation was reduced down to the shortest time reasonably possible.

For example, someone who was not baptized as an infant but has the ceremony done right before their confirmation.

What possible spiritual implications are possible with the "purity" and "speed of least resistance" from baptism to confirmation.

The "none"s have already been counted. The ones with creative imaginations are invited to stay.

some of the people in my confirmation class weren't baptized as infants so they just had it in the same ceremony that we were confirmed in

>there people on this board actually siding with the Franks/Latins over the Eastern Romans

Why?

The Eastern Romans were much more advanced in every single level. Their economy was both enormous and complex, and made that of even the Venetians and the Hansa look primitive in comparison. Their culture was urban, as it had been in the Roman Empire; they maintained both a standing professional army as well as a small army of educated bureaucrats that administered the Empire, unlike anything seen in Western Europe. They had WAGE LABORERS, something that would not appear in feudal Europe for centuries. There existed no real 'peasant' class analogous to that of feudal Europe, with individuals tied to the land.

The standard of living from the 5th to 13th century of the average Byzantine was unparalleled in Western Europe, and even the Crusaders found their enmity towards the Romans stoked by their envy at seeing a people who were mostly literate, who ate delicate foodstuffs and lived in relative prosperity with their bathhouses and their infrastructure, and mercantile culture as opposed to feudalism.

Anyone who hates the Eastern Romans would - upon a little bit of introspection - find that their hate was born from jealousy.

Because MUH CATHOLICISM and MUH WESTERN EUROPE. Sympathising with Byzantines (against anything other than Muslims) is a step away from siding with Russians. Aside from that gotta admit, the Basileos at the time was a fucking piece of shit (just like his entire dynasty) who managed to outdo Andronicus Ducas at fucking up the Empire and shat on everything the Komnenos dynasty achieved.

Alessandro de' Medici, Duke of Florence
Historians believe he had been born to a servant of African descent who was working in the Medici household, identified in documents as Simonetta da Collevecchio. The nickname (il Moro) is said to derive from his features

Why can't painters of olden days draw black features accurately?

I mean, most of the time, it looks like they're drawing white people with black skin.
