The whole premise is a fallacy, tradition is a spook. Pretty much everything was revolutionary once, all the way back to the agricultural revolution. And I'm sure if we could learn more about the stone age, they also went through countless revolutions, changed social structure and religion several times. Tribal people still living today have a huge variety of beliefs and social systems.

Just pick a time period which you think was ideal and want to go back to, or present a system you want to create. But this whole appeal to tradition makes no sense.

When Slavs came these Latinized natives were assimilated into Slavs over time. Usually they retreated south to coast so those coastal regions have most native blood. But in general South Slavs are mostly native genetically speaking, there were no extinctions in the common sense of the word.

Albanians have nothing to do with Illyrians, they probably came to Balkans sometime after Slavic invasions, and they were probably few in number and irrelevant so they escaped being mentioned up until 12th century (Albanian language was first attested in 13th century).
It's still really hard to believe that in all this time we talk about (several centuries), in a region that was under Byzantine rule, no Byzantine record mentioned Albanians.
Meanwhile they were mentioning some small Slavic tribes like Travunians.
Albanian-Illyrian connection is a scientifically dubious theory that only appeared in 19th century, and that's when Albanians started giving their kids names like Dardan and such.
It's easily the most idiotic and preposterous of national myths in Balkans, and that says a lot.
