In what sense? The US (between the end of the Civil War and the end of World War I) and Japan (1960s-1980s) had similar periods of rapid growth, the latter being more state-driven than the former. There are African and Latin American countries with even more rapid growth, but those are much smaller economies.

And honeslty if they had done that, America would have attacked Japan sooner or later. They were waging economic war on Japan long before pearl harbour and they would have stepped up their supplies to russia and the UK. Youd have to change too much history.

For one thing the military system meant soldiers were loyal to their generals and not to the state. For another thing, the entire tax collection system is a sham. And third, the political system they had meant the guys who got to be part of the political elite had to be conniving or a brute rather than good at their jobs.
