Its because they saw the Germans were getting their shit pushed in and had chewed off way more than they could, and the German army was way superior to the jap one not to mention all of russia's STRONGEST forces were in siberia at the time.

And honeslty if they had done that, America would have attacked Japan sooner or later. They were waging economic war on Japan long before pearl harbour and they would have stepped up their supplies to russia and the UK. They would have probably used some gay submarine shit to declare war on germany and japan like in WW1, Roosejew was itching to bomb the axis but his congress wouldn't let him.

Japan is only able to attack with relatively small forces, owing to their massive need for land forces in China proper. Still, they'd be able to overrun Vladivostok, and probably make gains into the Siberian border areas. Small gains.

Then, the Soviets would tear up all the rail infrastructure in the area, and pull back to a more defensive perimeter instead of being stretched around that blob that is Manchuria. The pic related is nigh impossible; there's no infrastructure worth mentioning in Mongolia, and sending a column through that desert is nigh impossible. You'd see the Soviets digging in along the TSR where the picture says 2, and the Japanese offensive would stall there.


Loss of primary resources means little; there was some exploitation, but most of the Soviet economy in siberia was much further west. Loss of Vladivostok means that a lot of Lend-lease has to be re-directed, probably towards Persia.

It will not knock Germany out. And when the Soviets can spare the men and resources for a strike into Asia, they are gonna be pissed.

Because Hitler didn't bother to inform the Japanese about Operation Barbarossa, and therefore they had done exactly fuck all to prepare an invasion of their own. Sure, they could have attacked anyway, but it would have been an even more of a mess than any actually planned invasion of Siberia would be.

the 1.5 or thereabouts million men the soviets had there easily contain the japanese advance which has to be limited to basically the transsiberian railroad

Siberia has plenty of oil but they lacked the technical knowhow to extract it in arctic and sub arctic temperatures across the sheer land distance, This and the Japanese own dwindling supplies mean that the Japs would be out of the war QUICKER had they joined in the fun.

The Dutch East Indies was in the long term a bad plan but made their war effort possible. The Japanese Navy was in actuality at the beginning the second best wheras their land army was horrible, and only performed "decent" because they faced one of the most incompetent opponents who themselves were fighting each other or outnumbered colonial outposts. The Japanese air force and navy also picked up alot of slack from the army.
