Why does Google switch the order of these items around? Sometimes I have to click "More" just to search videos or images or whatever I'm trying to look for.

Right, so, I'm sick and tired of paying for the right to access information on the internet.
What is it exactly that ISPs provide, and why can I not just get it for myself? Hardware can be free if you know how to make it, software can be free if you know how to program/hack it, so why is internet access proprietary?
Don't give me anything about creating your own network, either - that's not the worldwide web. I'm not going to get 4chan access from a closed network, now am I?
What do I need to get and do so that I can access the same Internet everyone else does without paying a monthly subscription?
