Let's be realistic: AMD's in debt dept, and its been going down a long downward spiral financially. The company is eventually to be bought out.

WHEN that happens, what happens to the industry?

Anti-monopoly laws aren't going to come into effect because both nVidia and Intel still have Intel and any company making ARM processors as competitors, respectively.

I honestly don't see Intel price gouging as actually happening - it's in their best interests to keep prices low so the desktop platform stays alive. They're already having trouble competing with new platforms, why make it worse? They'll definitely have more control over the platform when AMD dies, so positive things MIGHT actually happen to the desktop/laptop platform. Of course, the enthusiast/high end side of things is going to be ridiculously expensive, but the mainstream might actually get cheaper.

I can maybe see nvidia jacking up prices because discrete GPUs are a luxury item and gamers need their fix, but in the long term that would hammer the nail in pre-built PC GPU use's coffin, which accounts for significant portion of their business.

Maybe whoever buys out AMD will actually want to compete in those markets instead of just for assets/patents. That could make for an interesting turn of events.

Anyone have any thoughts? Like I said, I SERIOUSLY doubt government intervention will effect intel/nvidia, they still have competitors in the form of each other, and anyone who does ARM.

VIA and PowerVR still do exist, and aren't doing that bad for themselves.

Also, little known fact is nvidia has a chip that can run x86 code, quite well infact. It's in the nexus 9.

Hi, I'd like to use a laptop as a digital audio player connected to a Yamaha stereo receiver. It will be connected via a "mini-stereo to RCA" cable.

I will be using Foobar2000 with Wasapi for playback of local library. But I will also use Spotify and internet radio sometimes.

However, a remote control is necessary. Thinking about using an android phone... What apps do I need for controlling Foobar2000 (and selecting music folders from the hard drive)? And for controlling Spotify and internet radio?

Thanks beforehand...

So if I want to install Windows 8.1 on a Skylake processor, I need a USB 3.0 stick despite having a 2.0 stick and 2.0 ports?

No?
If you want to install windows 7 on any device with USB3 ports though, you need to have USB3 drivers placed on the boot media manually.
>>
>>55387692
But it's Windows 8.1, I have it on a USB 2.0 stick

will I be able to install it on my Skylake processor or do I need a 3.0 stick

See, modulars are actual technology.. You need to understand voltage levels, signal paths, discreet circuits and how they interact with each other, and know how to deal with the fact that cables are not made idiot proof like PC cables are. Which of course means the consumerfag fuckheads on this board have no chance of comprehending it.

There's plenty of us VCOfags on /diy/, including a dude who is making a light pen/CRT based modular looper. Pop though some time OP, it's a blast.

how many gtx 1080s is one person allowed to buy directly from nvidia?

i want to buy at least 10 to make sure nvidia has every dollar it possibly can, once AMD dies they will be forced to start taking on tougher competitors, they haven't had serious competition in a long time and are gonna need a ton of help

god help nvidia now that intel is going to be their biggest competitor

Why not just donate the money instead?
Or start a retail outlet and order in bulk
>>
At least when Samsung buys AMD they'll have mountains of cash to throw into R&D.
>>
What?

More likely, when AMD dies, nvidia will be carved up by the government for being a monopoly.

Hey /g/, I'm a poorfag that just acquired a new acer aspire vn7-591g-792u laptop. I was playing some vidya and it shut off randomly. I tried to hit the "reset battery" button but it did nothing. The charge indicator doesn't light up when I plug it in. How fucked am I?

Take out battery
Plug in computer without battery
Try powering on
If it don't work put the battery back in replug it to the charger and turn it on
Fixes shit like this 90% of the time
>>
>>55387427

I can't take the battery out. All this laptop has is a "reset battery" button that you have to push in with a pin. Retarded, I know, but it's all I have to work with at the moment.

I got one from a friend who works at Google and honestly its pretty nice but definitely has some drawbacks. The screen, both in resolution and aspect ratio, is absolutely gorgeous. I like the screen and trackpad more than my MacBook Pro. In my opinion is suffers from more pronounced image retention than most laptops in that price range. I notice frequent image retention if I have static images displayed although they go away after a while.

The battery life is absolute shit though and its hard to find replacements if you need a new one. It also tends to run hot and if the fans come on then it gets very loud.

How much are you planning on buying it for? You may be able to find a used 2015 Pixel for a good price which seems to have addressed many of the 2013 Pixel's problems.
