I'm looking to join the master race. I want to max everything out at 1080p60 for the next 5 years, no compromise.
Is this a good build? Are there any savings I could make? I'm mostly skeptical of the mobo.
I'll be picking up a 1070 later when they're actually available. Tempted to get a Founder's Edition because I'm impatient but nah.
>>55387178
the 1070 is overkill for 1080p maybe get a 980 or a RX 480 instead
>>55387178
spending all that money on mah e sports hardware instead of a 1080 LUL
You could save on the case, keyboard and mouse. Could probably get away with a lower wattage psu aswell. Thermal pate probably comes with the cooler.
I'm looking to purchase a replacement type keyboard for my Surface Pro 2, but these things are fucking worth a decent mechanical keyboard priced around 60-150$. and all the third party surface keyboards look like shit.
is there any way to repair this keyboard (half the keys don't work)? should I just get a compact wireless keyboard? should i just buy it?
>Surface
you dun goofed
>>55387171
how much did it last? 2 years?
fucken microshit
>>55387171
Just get a poker 3 or some other 40% mechanical keyboard.
/g/ I need your guidance.
I might enlist for a master in computer science with focus on videogames.
They want me to pick a coding language to exclusively learn and use - which one would be the best in your opinion and why?
C++ is usually the way to go, but I heard it's hard as shit to learn.

Just bought one of these shits off of Amazon. What can I expect?
Backstory: I upgraded to an s7 edge the other day and checked out the goggles at the AT&T store. I have money to burn so I figured why not
I'm planning on rooting my phone tomorrow as well to flash the stock rom and to potentially pirate some shit for the vr, which brings me to another question.
Is it possible to torrent all the stuff I saw in the AT&T demo version and then enjoy it all for free or is there some kind of fuckass safety they've got going on that will force me to pay?
What are your thoughts on the goggles in general, /g/?
"8/10 it's alright" -IGN
Bump because considering getting one too
>>55387135
It's a gimmick honestly
I got mine for free with the promo they were doing like last month or something and basically haven't touched it since then.
Has less games than the ps3

Hey guys so i'm going camping next week and i don't know what to pack for computing. I was planning to pack something light so i would not have to lug around so much weight. So i'd figured, should i carry 1 kg of ThinkPads or 1 kg of MacBook Airs. I'm leaning toward the MacBook Airs because they're lighter. Thoughts?
>camping
>bringing your entire basement with you
>anime
for b8 this obvious try >>>/b/
you should strap 100kg of macbooks on your back and then jump inside a very deep lake

I don't see anything wrong with it
I found this fairly entertaining in my YT feed.
Barneclese gets a call from a scammer pretending to be M$, warning him his PC is riddled with viruses. He then sets up a VM for them to connect, and they proceed to convince him warnings in his event log are from all the viruses.
the lulz from then on are precious.

Fuck of Barneclese, you should kill yourself you giant fat disgusting blob. I hate your stupid intro it truly sickens me, no wonder Microsoft fired you.

Hi Barneclese

While I do enjoy Pajeets getting BTFO, I hate that fat fuck.
Vulkan or OpenGL?
OpenGL has the massive advantage of the existence of WebGL, allowing you to run online applications with incredibly fancy graphics, but if Vulkan is less weird to work with then it might win me over.
Undocumented WebGL functions that alter variables without you ever using an equals sign is really confusing.
>>55387074
On the Windows Desktop OpenGL still is much better
Vulkan doesn't even support Exclusive Fullscreen yet
vulkan is harder to work with, less compatible and performs worse

I'm looking into getting an SSD, budgeting under 300 for a medium budget build. Total machine is at around $1100 us currently, but is around 8 months old. Ready to start upgrading bits. What are your thoughts /g/uys?
Mostly using for gaming as I have a separate machine for work. Would like something fast, I can supplement size with a HD if needed. Discuss!
>>55387054
All faggotry of your post aside, you can buy a Samsung 950 pro 512mb SSD for 180 total on jet dot com.
X400 is the best non-Samsung TLC drive you can get, the 1TB goes for around 230 USD.
SSDs are a premium for gaming and only help with loading times, reducing open world hitching and lack of spin up latency related issues (only matters if you're a competitive gamer).

Is there anything wrong with getting a Chinese knock-off power adapter? I need a 90W 20V AC Adapter for my ThinkPad docking station. Does it matter if I get a fake one with the same specs versus a genuine Lenovo brand adapter? I just don't want my machine to go up in flames because I cheaped out.
>>55386822
>genuie Lenovo brand adapter
>not chicnk
You do realise lenovo is a chinese brand, yes?
You're always leaving your fate in the hands of Chinese factory workers. The question is how much trust you have in a brand name actually doing meaningful QC.
Get a decent multimeter and make sure its output is at least correct and consistent before plugging it in. Don't get an oscilloscope, though, because the waveform off a knock-off adapter will spook you.
>>55386843
Yeah, I realiize it's all Chink shit, but maybe the genuine Lenovo brand adapter has higher quality materials?
Hi /g/
Do you think this kind of external fan could help cool down my laptop?
They're supposed to be clipped on the fan vents to help extract hot air.
Has anyone ever tried them?
P.S: STAY YOUR HAND! No need to rant about other ways to cool the laptop, I've installed a new fan and cleaned out dirt and shit, the laptop isn't overheating I'm just looking for ways to make it cooler in this hot summer.
A larger pad which sits beneath your laptop and blows up into the intake vents would probably be better. I've actually seen those work quite well myself a couple different times.
>>55386798
Stop buying the best spec per dollar laptop in future and actually purchase something with decent build quality.
>>55386798
Just prop up the hinge edge of the laptop with bottlecaps and point a cheap walmart fan at the vent.
What's the state of the art with Raspberry Pi distributions now? Kinda got out of the loop for a bit and now that I moved to a new place I'm going to start tinkering again.
Is it still all shit except raspbian, or are there any other interesting ones?
is this the new desktop thread
I'd never looked before but I'm surprised RPis get on as well as they do with so little RAM. I expected they would be rocking ~512MB for what they do.
>>55386817
well, don't be surprised, a Pi is several orders of magnitude more powerful than a 1990 computer, same with smartphones. Tech is amazing, isn't it?
Also don't let people tell you the pi is a piece of perfection either, there ARE a lot of caveats to them. I can say anecdotically that using any Video-intensive stuff eventually ends in frustration (though I haven't used the Pi 3 -- I think that should solve a lot of its video problems).
Stuff like normal web browsing is almost impossible on a 512 meg pi as a whole too, for example.
I think that it really excels when you put it to the test with an specific application, domain or intent. I use one in an arcade machine I built, and I did a LED lightshow. As long as you don't need the GPU stuff (no GUI, no HD video) you're good.

/g/ do you like android ?
I love android
Can't picture using anything else on my mobile phone
CM13 specifically
I'm allowed to indulge in this circlejerk. I've been using a Windows Phone for 2.5 years and I've finally got an Android handset on order. My enthusiasm is not blind corporate worship. I paid my dues and I will soon love that little green robot, damn it.
>>55386720
Its a good feel
That robot let's me use my phone like a damn computer that happens to be a phone
Vs a limited appliance that apple made
>>55386694
Its good, its the only alternative to ios that actually has something to offer and it is better at a lot of things.
I like it, i mean, its pretty good, but the only good phones are from samsung, google and xiaomi.
