Hey /g/, I'm having an issue as of late.
2 of my fans failed in my comp, and I replaced them, and it seems to be doing ok, but recently my cpu is hotter than hell itself.
Do I need to buy a new cpu? I was never having this problems until lately, could it be a hardware failure? It overheats so bad my comp crashes, and I cant really play shit anymore. It's like it all suddenly went to fucking hell.
Not spec thread, but my comp info might help

Depends on what you mean by 3DCG, if CAD/CAM or simulation, then Quadro, if 3ds Max or Maya then Titan or 1080.
Quadros are only for zero-tolerance work, which most graphic work isn't, it's not like your render will crash over just because the GPU doesn't have ECC.
For CUDA rendering only core count matters, get whatever has the most, also two cards equal a nearly straight 2x speed up so having more cheaper cards is much more beneficial than it would be for games. Just make sure to have as much RAM as possible.

I bought an Y700 laptop with this UEFI shit. I've installed Win7 on it but, boy, that was a fucking space odyssey.
It wasn't just the system, it was drivers too and you gotta do a lot of crazy shit to prevent it to turn into a vegetable thru Win10 update.
Is there no hope? These fucking vampires from Jewtel and Microschmuck are really trying hard to turn every PC into a facebook machine.

Since my first thread was filled with spergs who lost their shit over an drawing that leaves little to the imagination, we're gonna give this another go, and hopefully I can actually get some damn contributions.

I have a decade old computer that's been in storage or years. It has n Intel Pentium III processor and 400mb of RAM. It still boots up but fails to start the operating system, which I believe was Windows XP but I can't be sure.
Anyway, instead of fixing that I was just going to install linux on it. Which distribution would be best for watching videos, playing music and editing office documents given the limitations?

Lubuntu should run 'fine' I guess. Try it and see how it runs. I only tried it on P4 machines and it ran good enough, used like 100mb ram on boot. But dont expect to watch hd videos on that hardware ever.

i 2nd on lubuntu. I haven't installed it on a pentium 3 thought but a pentium m and it o.k... I ran puppy linux on a pentium 3 and it ran well (as in pretty fast) but I couldn't get the browser to go and I was newer to linux and gave up but it looked promising. It was faster than lubuntu on the pent m.
You have to do some extra work to get lubuntu on it though. Something about a force pae extra loading instructions and it goes a bit into the murk of forums to find the answers but it turned out not being too terribly difficult.

I'm taking a day long drive somewhere and am bringing my desktop with me.
What's the best way to make sure my desktop doesn't get damaged?
Currently planning on putting my fractal design r4 case sideways in the back seat and cushioning around it with pillows and shit. Would that make sure it doesn't get damaged? I drive carefully but I'm also scared about internal components. Is there anything I have to secure?

Step two: don't get in a wreck
The most sensitive thing in your pc is a hdd and it is rated for dozens of gs of acceleration when the head is parked. So don't drop it on a hard surface and don't get in to a wreck that will cause it to collide with a hard surface.
