Hey guys. I'm gonna be starting school soon, and I need a laptop. I'm gonna be studying computer science, and was advised to get a laptop with atleast 8gb ram.
These are some I've found, which one would you recommend? If you have any other suggestions in the same price bracket(~750$), then thats welcome to.

Would buy the Acer but you need to download a Windows 10 iso from the official MS website and reinstall it so you don't have to deal with all the bloat that comes with an Acer! It will automatically activate as OEM so no key is required.
>>56044958
And go for the one with i5 processor.
What do you think about everyone jumping on new technologies for based storage? HDDs are seriously fucked on the next 10 years.
I want to be able to replace a noisy six 4TB RAIDz2 array with just two drives in a mirror config.
What kind of special retard thought it was a good idea to put the word Product on a slide?
>Seagate with 60TB SSDs

Man, I want more storage.

You know that clamav runs on linux, only for detecting viruses on windows partition, right?
also,
>using antivirus
>not trusting common sense 2016 which is immune to zero day attacks
Who thought this would be a good idea? No, really.
I hear fags talking about how glossy screens have better colors or brightness, but there is literally - LITERALLY - no fucking reason to have glossy plastic cases. NONE.
>Heh, it looks cooler.
Fingerprints do not look cool.
>gloss

Yes they should fade away along with my happiness
>>56044761
Within minutes of washing your hands, your skin has already secreted more oil and you'll leave fingerprints.
>>56044535
>glossy screens
>better brightness
Well, they have to. They need to be twice as fucking bright as a matte screen just to be usable, and then you're still getting reflections in the image.
Glossy screens are retarded.

you sure convinced me to make the switch lmao
You WISH arch'd look like that
>>56044308
I actually love Arch specifically because of your first reason: pacman is my favorite package manager. Apt-get is slow as fuck.
I also appreciate that it's a distro which allows you to only have packages you want, rather than have to rip out unwanted pre-installed packaged.
My only real gripe is that it's made and maintained by random neckbeards on the internet. I wish it was made by a more professional company so I could have that peace of mind. I would pay for a product like that.
Hello /gee/,
I tore apart a colossal dell percision workstation to create pic related barebones server because it had a xeon x5450 and dual CPU mobo. Only issue being it requires a 2 main connector psu and the one that came with the PC is 1000w behemoth.
It takes a 20 and 24 pin just to power up, tried with just the 24 and it doesn't boot. Are there any lower wattage PSUs with these connections? Google was no help at all.
Shameless self bamp
Just use two psu's retard.
>google didnt help
This is because you're an idiot.
get 2 psus.

Convince me not to buy this $900 monstrosity of a card right now /g/
>gtx 1080 with the highest stock clock speeds available
>2x8pin power connector
>12+2 phases
>full liquid cooling, covers gpu, ram and vrm's
>backplate
>4 year warranty
A similar cooler kept the 980 Ti, a more power hungry card, under 50°C during load. I don't doubt that this card can be overclocked well above 2 GHz.
And I know, for $300 more you can get a Titan X, but those all have shitty blower-style housefire coolers.
Wait 1 week then buy it. Always a good idea to wait to buy things.
>>56043747
There's going to be a 1080 Ti version of this shortly, dumb ass.
>>56043747
because you're going to play esports 95% of the time and those could run on a 750Ti
What's a better value right now? The RX 470 for about $250-300 Canadian, or the 1060 for $350-400.
It seems like the 1060 beats the 470 in benchmarks, but the $100 price difference is making me think twice. The RX 470 isn't that much worse than the 1060.
Are AMD drivers still trash in Linux?
I'm guessing MSi/Saphire are the best brands for AMD and EVGA/Asus are the best of Nvidia.
Are Zotac and PNY trash?
>>56043605
if ati go sapphire
>>56043605
Depends on if you plan to keep playing at 1080p/60Hz. If so, a 470 will do fine.
>>56043605
With those prices, go for the RX 470 if you care about value.
>mfw upgraded from a 2TB scorpio black to an ssd as my primary drive

Booting is maybe 3-5 seconds faster, apps load at roughly the same speed, and my pc doesn't feel much faster than it was before.

Is there a possible way to install linux to a flash instead of the hard drive?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Plug a bootable USB drive and a USB you want to install to and choose the USB drive when asked to choose what drive to install to. That fucking simple
Is there any file compression format that if the file gets corrupted, it does not fuck up the entire thing? I dont care about compression, I just want all files in one file so the data get copied faster from one storage medium to the other. Thanks.
>>56043518
>I just want all files in one file
TAR i.e. Tape Archive. That's the TAR which is in the tar.gz extension.
It was made specifically for this purpose.
both zip and 7z can function as archive-only formats by setting compression ratio to zero
Seconded for TAR.
You may want to use PAR on the generated archive, too, for added error recovery.
My question is what's the /g/ents method for listening to stored music files on iOS9?
My Android broke recently and I was gifted an iPhone5s to replace it. It looks and feels nicer than my S3 in many ways but it's like going from the service of a muscular athletic ugly brute to the frail though aesthetically pleasing body of a hot chick.
I can't download links like I used to. I've limited options in terms of apps. And the problem that's annoying me the most... It seems that I can't use the music files I have on my PC by simply transferring them to the iPhone.
I use Remote File Manager to dl torrent files to my iphone. Give it a go
>>56043382
Is that available on Apple Store or is that a Windows program? Or both?
>>56043357
You download like MP3s from single links to your phone? Jesus that's horrifying.
