what is the most efficient way to transfer data from pc to my new laptop?
I'm thinking about getting one of those transfer cables but I noticed that my Lenovo has a sata input, could I essentially transfer my data directly from my harddisk to my laptop?
thanks you guys

Let's talk about passwords
Up until like 3 days ago I had the same 8 character password for everything, decided that was pretty retarded.
Ended up using random passwords for each different account that I have on the internet, and make them as long as the website would let me. To manage these passwords, I use keepass, some open source meme that saves all your passwords as a database that you have to use a master password (I chose a 20 character long randomly generated password for this too, only 20 so that I could remember it) to unlock as well as a keyfile (optional, but I went for it). I have the database file on a cloud in an account with a different 20 character password. The keyfile I keep on my phone and in a usb drive, so that if someone gets access to my cloud account, the password they used to get into it being different, and the lack of the keyfile prevents them from using the database file to get the rest of my passwords.
I feel pretty good about it, but I kinda just made it up. Not really sure if it's good or not.
What are your practices? Shittiest thing you've had to deal with from a website wrt password restrictions?
Wells Fargo, one of the only things that I actually care about restricts you to use a password that's between 6 and 14 characters long. shits probably in a plaintext file somewhere.
I have the same 8 character password for everything
>>56043248
yea, the catalyst for this whole thing was like the 14th email from yahoo saying someone in a foreign country attempted to login to my account, but was rejected because of their location. Didn't want to choose a new password to make everything again, so I went full autism instead. Maybe you'll have an experience like that, maybe you won't.

Can someone recommend a good password manager which isn't a mono-based bloatware?
how do you make windows look like this?
is it another desktop environment? an overlay? dwm.exe mod?
also, what version of you Windows do you run on your secured virtual machine?

Google the sha1 hashcode of english 2015 ltsb n (32 or 64 bit) and you will find a few torrents. Check hash to be sure it's not riddled with malware (at least not anymore than stock).

Are file shredding programs a placebo? Does it make a difference whether you rewrite the file's allocated space 1, 7 or 35 times?
>>56043154
1 pass is enough on any HDD made within the past 20 years. Doing it more times than that is for paranoia only.
Don't listen that "they can figure out what bit it was before the wipe if it's only 1 pass!" nonsense. It only works SLIGHTLY SLIGHTLY better than a 50/50 guess in the lab. The chances of them being able to recover 1-pass wipe bits to get any coherent information is astronomical, and for all intense and purposes, as good as a guess.
>>56043154 If you are wiping the encrypted volume header it might be worth it to overwrite it multiple times. It takes less then a second anyway.
Elsewise one pass with /dev/urandom to delete your data and one with /dev/zero to make disk to look like new is more than enough.
But keep in mind that data in remapped sectors will not be deleted.
Ssds is another story. They have huge (~5% of the capacity) reserved section which is used by the controller to move your data around and you do not have direct access to it. Sata secure erase feature is a joke.
If your filesystem is copy on write (btrfs, zfs), it is placebo unless you disable copy on write for that file beforehand (doable with btrfs at least).
If you care about your privacy, encrypt beforehand. If you want to wipe securely, wipe the entire drive; for a SSD, multiple passes may be necessary (without TRIM) to ensure it really is wiped.

I am about to buy a new laptop for my graphic and architecture work. I am thinking about MSI GE62 Apache, Dell Inspiron 7559 and Asus ROG GL552VW. Which of these is the best pick? All have very similar specs.

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening? I'm trying to get a python script working on my buddies webserver using jailshell ssh. It's CentOS (I'm not sure what version probably 7.x) so it has python 2.6 on it already but being that it's jailshell all the files in the python folder are read-only so I can't even install pip. So i installed Python 2.7 in the websites home directory but for some reason ctypes won't work for 2.7, making it impossible to use. _ctypes.o doesn't even exist but there is a ctypes directory and a shit ton of other stuffs I don't understand. I also tried to manually install ctypes but I get an error saying "error: package directory 'ctypes' does not exist".
I've googled everything I can, help me /g/ you're my only hope.
I'm probably just really retarded...
Fucking god dammit heres the right image
works on my machine

I know it should i just need a hypothesis on why it doesn't work on mine. I'm out of ideas.
