Can you do anything interesting with a CS degree if you suck at math?
Seems only web dev and enterprise crap is math free.
Let's be honest. Nothing is interesting when you're forced to do it for a wage.

Not once you're getting into graphics.
>>56176550
Isn't all of CS interpreting math in one way or another?
Who else Note 7 here?
Nice samshit phone. I bet the only thing you're going to use the stylus for is to do shitty snapchats occasionally.

So if I want to make sure my code runs both under python 2 and python 3 should I use xrange?
I understand there's no xrange in python 3 (or rather the python 3 range works like the python 2 xrange), but if I just use "range" in my code then running it in python 2 increases memory use very significantly.
Should I make some sort of wrapper to run either xrange or range depending on sys.version_info? Or does it already exist?

this.
Why is the surface of a cell phone touchscreen not treated like a laptop touchpad. The only thing holding back a desktop like experience is tap area for "small screens". Why not use the screen like a touch pad and overlay a cursor?
>>56176230
That's been done, moron. It's shit.
You can do that on windows tablets.
>>56176230
Because this would 1) be annoying, and 2) not be intuitive.
How do I setup wireless in a very large house?
I have a router on the first floor of the house. Every room in the house is connected via cables that lead in the same switch, so I can get internet to the rooms.
I tried extenders but they suck because they are flaky and you can't put them in series. They need to be in the range of the router.
How to tackle this? I would prefer the same SSID in the whole house if it is possible.
Not your fucking tech support
Google it faggot
>>56176138
Make large holes in walls and floors, this will allow the signal to travel uninterrupted
If I setup access points and connect them to the router via wire, will SSID of the wireless network be the same and will the switching between APs be (somewhat) seamless when you walk with cellphone through the house?
Any recommendations for AP brands and models?
Pic is the router I have.
i refuse to pay for extension cords.

what would /g/ do different?

I'd get some fucking extension cords.

Literally everything. How do you deal with that bullshit? Are you blind?
Yea paid for a chair instead
Anyone has the website which has a whole bunch of random programming challenges like in this pic?

Is it worth me upgrading my 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 memory to 16GB 2400Mhz? I always thought it did not affect fps in games but from Googling around it seems that is not actually the case and can have quite an impact. More than just the 1-3 fps I used to see stated.
>>56175822
Not really no. Also can your mobo support it?
>>56175840
Yes it can go as high as 3000Mhz*OC but but I can't find anything in that range. At least not cheap.
>>56175857
does your cpu support it?
How does this build look fellas first pc build excited as fuck did some of my own research but i wanted aome tips from the tech masters http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Dimsumnutts/saved/qynmP6
>>56175783
Also thinking about changing the case to the one pictured above
I think the 1060 is a silly card to buy because it's right in the middle on everything but if it works for you it's fine. That SSD might not be very reliable, San disk makes some good and some bad shit
Looks very good.
The CPU Cooler is a bit oversized. The 120mm Noctua version will be enough for overclocking.
Also i would exchange the SSD for a Samsung 850 Evo one.

Need some fast advice.
I live in Japan and I've worked all day.
Come home late to find new laptop from America has arrived.
Except the fucking plug has a ground prong and none of my apartments outlets have a grounding hole.
It's late here, so shops are closed. The local 7/11 has this weird flexible adaptor thing.
So is pic related, with the grounding prong exposed, safe?
More related pics.
This would only be temporary until I can get a proper adapter.
>>56175613
ya it's all good
>>56175613
Yes, you can touch it and not cause an issue.
It's just a safety feature not in Japan
https://github.com/onnlucky/squaregenes
A nifty little alife simulation with square amoeba-like creatures. The creatures first learn to expand, then they manage to defend themselves and reproduce. Their genome can get pretty big after a while as their behaviour gets more complex.
To run just download the source and open the index.html file in your browser of choice (it will work on firefox or chrome, but chrome is recommended due to faster java). The squaregenes.js file can be edited to change all the settings of the simulation.
If the standard file is too slow try this compact version that should run somewhat faster (also some settings changed for ease of use):

Hello /g/.
I would like to ask for some advice / recommendations.
Soon, I will have around a 1000 euro's (+/- 1150 dollars) to spend on technology related equipement.
I have been considering to upgrade my computer so that games might run a bit better.
However... I don't think it's absolutely necessary to upgrade it just yet, since I'm running with a GTX660 and FX8320 at the moment and it does the trick. Perhaps not on ultra or high settings but I guess it's not too bad knowing I'd blow all the money trough building an Intel machine with a better GPU.
I have also been considering a second monitor, which might come of great use. It won't be a very expensive one, most likely a 1920x1080 one because my current rig wouldn't be able to run games on a higher resolution than that. (I'd think at least...)
Going with the second option I would have about 2/3rd of the 1000 left for when something breaks or whatever...
What would you recommend me?
I'm curious to hear for ''inspiration'' purposes.
pic not related
>>56175565
Forgot to add...
If you come up with a recommendation on something I could also buy instead of the two examples I'd be happy to hear.
>>56175565
I have a pretty similar build performance-wise.
I don't know about you, but my backlog of games that will run perfectly on this machine is massive. There isn't really a good justification for upgrading yet.
I am normally not a fan of multimonitor since multitasking basically induces ADHD. There's a good argument however if you use monitors for substantially different purposes (eg. one 144hzTN and one IPS/VA, or one landscape one portrait).
What about sound or peripherals?
>>56175655
Hi there, thanks for your quick and well written reply.
I would use my main screen (1920x1080 IPS) for the game I'd be playing and the second one for internet, a movie or something like that whilst playing a game that does not require my full attention.
I'm using cheap Logitech speakers, not sure about the model but they're 2.0 (No sub)
And a Razer Carcharias (I know I know... Razer meme) as a headset. They work OK, nothing fancy but it does the job it's supposed to do.
