There are lots of 30+ year olds in uni don't worry, but I think you should be studying maths in the mean time.
They transition quite well into programming and give you problem-solving skills.

Situation: PC is old but I need a new monitor, and I'm going to buy a new PC in a few months.
Problem: My current failing monitor is 1280x1024 while I have the option to buy a new 1366x768 one.
I don't see a lot of 1280x1024 monitors and I wonder why, isn't supposed to be a better resolution than 1366x768? What should I go for if I plan to use it for leisure?
Also, since I'm going to upgrade the computer in a few months, I'm considering the option to buy a HD monitor (1080p). Would the higher resolution hurt the performance of the computer since it's using a really old CPU?
Please, enlighten me.

what is your problem exactly? afaik they are still supporting your card with the newest drivers. last time i checked amd stopped making drivers for my old card which was like only 4-5 years old while nvidia still supports cards that are 10 years old. maybe you just lack reading comprehension?
