Why do old people always turn the lights off, then ask you if you can still see the screen when it's clearly fucking backlit?
Also, shit old people / tech illiterates do thread.

Yes, my first computing experience was on CRT monitors, we even had iMac G3s at school in a dark computer lab, and I could see them.
Python 2.7 or Python 3. Which one should I learn?
Python 2.7 is no longer in development and students are encouraged to learn 3.
However, if you're working on old hardware and old versions of Linux like I usually am at work, it may not be possible to implement Python 3 scripts which isn't even in the main CentOS/RHEL 7 repo.
Python3 you retard
Python3 you faggot
you're talking about this like learning one will make the other unintelligible to you. the only way for that to be the case would be if you become such an incompetent script kiddie that doing anything substantive (with anything, let alone hardware) will be a pipe dream.
Yes, we know everything already is from China but in here we discuss the no/low-name cheap shit you see on Gearbest, AliExpress, eBay and similar sites.

Do you own anything that's not a Seiko?
Discord is complete garbage.
There is no way to schedule meetings, easily review or archive chat logs, the interface is cancerous and full of useless gimmicks that can't be turned off.
There are hundreds of suggestions in the feedback system to make this turd more bearable to use but none of them ever materialize. Some of those suggestions were already proposed last year. The devs seem more active on their stupid subplebbit than their own website.
If this application would be open source at least those suggested features could be implemented by users themselves. But stupid ass devs want it all locked down.
At the end of day it's an ultra-shitty IRC replacement with voice chat. Shit I'm furious any of you idiots actually use it.
just make something better haha
Discord is, by it's very nature, a piece of gamerware (software for gamers), and therefore it is utterly a piece of cancerous garbage. I suggest you use Skype :)
>>56285634
Skype is closed turd too.

/g/ likes to pretend that the industry for software dev is a meritocracy and you can be gainfully employed without a 4-year degree if you can prove you're not retarded with a portfolio.
But is this actually true?
Is anyone here working as a programmer without a CS degree?
Because I've applied to 20 places this year and nobody called me or even sent me a rejection email.
>>56285375
I certainly hope no one has called it easy, but on my team there are a few people without a CS degree, and one doesn't even have a degree. And this is at a Big 4 company.
I am not sure what to tell you anon.
>>56285375
It's not what you know, it's who you know.
>>56285375
>the industry for software dev is a meritocracy
It is half-and-half. You need connections, but you cannot get far without genuine skill.
>you can be gainfully employed without a 4-year degree if you can prove you're not retarded with a portfolio
Depends on where you apply. Large company? Why would they look at you when there are 200 other applicants WITH a degree?
Small companies may employ you, since they need to hire cheaper, and are willing to test your skills.
>Because I've applied to 20 places
Small number.
>this year
You screwed up. You should apply to 20 places per month.
>nobody called me or even sent me a rejection email.
That is rude.
Best online/cloud storage option?
I have been using dropbox for ages but recently considered moving to onedrive.
Pro: More free space than dropbox
Con: It is M$
Pro: Native to windows 10
Con: Doesn't let you remove it from windows 10 which pisses me off
There is also onedrive.
Pro: Has the most free space of them all
Con: Botnet
What do you use /g/?
I don't like uploading my personal and work to other people's servers
i use them all to maximize the danger
I use dropbox 2gb to backup all of my settings and preferences, themes and tools. Makes new installs pretty easy.
What software do you think is the leading source of disappointment in FOSS alternatives?
I'm thinking GIMP.
Speaking of GIMP can someone rec me a dark theme for it? Nothing fancy, just something that don't burn my eyes like the default one.
MySQL

What's wrong with GIMP?

So out of boredom i finally did it. I tried a linux based system. And i kinda liked it
I got ubuntu and its fairly easy to use but the UI is kinda annoying for someone coming from windows and Ubuntu software center seems kinda... shitty. Don't know if thats normal.
I checked out linux mint and it seems closer to a windows interface than ubuntu. Is there any drawbacks in trying this distro?
As a Linux user, all you'll be doing is trying different distros.
>>56285270
Too true
>>56284515
Try kde then. Similar to windows, but more configurable. Kubuntu, OpenSuse, Mageia..
Don´t give any thought to the "coolness" of the distro of your choice. /g/ is filled with hipsters and fedora-tipping weabos trying to make themselves look cool with their terminals and shit. Install something and go with it. People´s opinions are like assholes, everyone have them.
Apple did this to get the iphone 6 users to upgrade to the 7
There is no way that thing just happened like that randomly.
>>56284482
They do it every single time they release a new one, so yea obviously it's intentional.
>>56284521
this
Apple has a habit of releasing questional software right before a newer release occurs, they've been doing it since the first video iPods when they would purposely write code that slows down the hardware, breaks a feature or induces a total failure of the product.

Check your cooling equipment dude, I think the thermal paste may be nonexistant or the fan/heatsink is crapping out.
