Why would you get normal Ubuntu and not one of it's other(much better) flavors?

You should have gotten Xubuntu, or Kubuntu.

C# or Java as a first language? And why?

I read that C# is a more well-designed language than Java, but Java has a greater amount of study material and documentation, including books that focus on Computer Science. Which one do you recommend?

Why are netbooks/Atoms so bad with Linux?
I'd buy an ideapad 100s if I knew it could run Ubuntu MATE perfectly, but Linux on atom netbooks is a fucking joke.

Aside broadscum i didn't had any issues with atom (if the gpu is from intel) aside tearing. GCC even have march for the 1st gen atoms. If you want something crappy bloatware on atom then use w7. Even starter was a nightmare.

I actually had a 750w in there originally. The 550 costed more because actually the 750w was only semi-modular.
I was recommended to move down to a 550 but that was before I upgraded to a 6600k, not that I really plan to overclock or anything.
At least not anytime soon.
Oh well, it was my first time, if push comes to shove I'll upgrade it in a few years.
I should be fine though right?

Since AMD makes CPUs and GPUs could they not surpass Intel and nVidia in performance with some sort of proprietary synergy between the 2?
I know nothing about hardware engineering or software programming, but it seems like it might be possible to make their 2 products play nicer together and give them an edge.

APUs
And Intel already beat them in that(albiet more expensive)
>>
>>56603440
It's called HSA and it's coming along nicely
Not proprietary though
>>56603455
>And Intel already beat them in that(albiet more expensive)
They don't, Intel doesn't even support HSA, their OpenCL drivers are somehow more awful than AMD's and iGP wise AMD rapes them

They already do

Which dialect should I learn and what red sources does /g/ recommend?

Don't capitalise Lisp.

Learn Scheme with SICP. Maybe take a look at a syntax primer first.

Clojure will be a breeze with the SICP + Haskell background.

SICP is perfect for learning _about_ Lisp.

If he wants to learn by example then go with a syntax primer and a language cookbook (Practical Common Lisp is gr8)
