Is there a language like Java that can be compiled/ran basically anywhere like Java can? (Standalone application like on Window, OSX and GNU/Linux)
That is legitimately the only reason I would use it, because the rest of it is full of shit pajeet
Every compiled language ever.
Javascript and Python are very portable and commonly used.
>>57137969
my man
Also, electron. Its a JS based framework for making desktop apps. Postman, Discord, curse, and some other common apps use it.
Going to install Ubuntu tonight, but before I do, one question.
What's the best DE, out of them all, that will run smooth on this machine?
>i5 750
>gtx 460
>8GB ddr3
eyyy glad to see im not the only one still running a 750
you have to be 18 to get a piercing right?
Specs doesn't mean shit when picking a de, it mostly if just personal preference
Which do you own /g/? I have the Victorinox Classic SD for my keychain and the Compact for general use.
This, my friend.
The only two Swiss things I'll probably ever own.
>>57137883
my fat pasty cousin stole my one of these
shit now im mad again
>>57137883
>bits and pieces to fucking lose
entirely defeats the purpose of a multitool.
char* astrcat(char* prefix, char* suffix)
{
char* str = NULL;
asprintf(&str, "%s%s", prefix, suffix);
return str;
}
char* getstr()
{
char* str = "";
char character;
while((character = getchar()) != '\n')
str = astrcat(str, &character);
return str;
}
I usually just write code for small personal utillities so I dont have to deal with much user input,
but I made a function to get a string using getchar, for some reason it inserts a one after each character.
It worked fine with getche but getchar is easier to use. Can you help me find the reason /g/?
I don't know C
>>57137908
Try it sometime, its neat.
>>57137862
Don't use a single char as a string
Also, it appears to leak memory.
Shit code/10
Why are these still so expensive?
>1tb
First of all
>buying a 1TB SSD
Second, $3/gb isn't even expensive despite SSD's shitty price scaling. Stop being a poorfag
>>57137848
>what is math
$.30/gb
I just installed KDE
What else should I install to make it better?
Already have ksuperkey
>>57137768
format and install macOS
>>57137810
literally this
>>57137768
>Already have ksuperkey
Should have installed kde neon, this is unnecessary.
Maybe if you say what you want or what is wrong with it then we can give you suggestions.
So I just got my first Google Cardboard thing for free
Where is all the porn? What else can I do with it before throwing it away
You won't find NSFW content to easily with this thing, atleast not from the playstore.
What I recommend you is to look for some 360 degree videos on youtube and watch them, you can even find some semi sexualized content there. But media consumption is pretty good with youtube and this cardboard thing.
Download the 360 VR app called, "Bo Rhap." It's a 360 degree VR music video for Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." It's not porn. But, it's fun, and a good place to start.
>>57137694
/t/ has a VR porn thread.
When will we have artificial general intelligence, /g/?
We already did, and the bastards murdered her.
A general AI is still quite far away. It can be a bit scary considering a general AI will lead to a lot of changes. Hopefully in my lifetime :)
>>57137650
Even if we suddenly got enough computation power, no one has an idea how to make it work. Current neural network based solutions can't be used to create general AI.
>you click on a news link and some video starts fucking playing while you're reading the article
>>57137617
I know that struggle. Startles me every time.
>we apparently have so much spare bandwidth we can add videos where they aint needed
I have plugins to block that shit
What is it for you that makes you hate Apple? For me, it is fancy but meaningless buzzwords that are applied to whatever new tech they introduce and then accompany said tech with some utterly ridiculous factoid such as mentioned by Jobs in this video:
https://youtu.be/0EPcahdKD_Q?t=7m22s
>velocity engine
>speed of light
>calculates instructions before light has reached your eye
It is so cringe worthy, but Apple never fails at the cringe factor during every keynote.
>>57137583
>every keynote
Name one moment each from the last three keynotes.
Did you even watch them? I doubt it. You posted a clip of a guy who's literally been dead since 2011.
>>57137583
reminds of me Sony with their Emotion Engine on PS2. With it's real time Toy Store level graphics.
>>57137645
Toy Story even*
Looking at buying an mp3 player until I realized how fucking expensive they are! The best deal I could find is a "FiiO x1" , if anyone knows a better one for a decent price, please let me know!
Pic Related.
I just bought a windows surface pro 3 after I saw the shitty mp3 players and their prices
>>57137522
That's not a MP3 player. They're called DAPs. Digital Audio Players.
I have a Ruizu X02 and it plays .flacs. Anything more expensive than it is just Hi-Res Audio audiophile snakeoil memes. It'll sound exactly the same. You're only buying the FiiO X1 for a better UI. Actually OP just use your phone but if your phone sucks compared to your PC get the Ruizu. Why do you need a dedicated music player? Ruizu was cheap so I got it and it's my bedtime music player.
>>57137660
I would like a dedicated mp3 player because I travel a lot, and my phone gets on my nerves cause I have A Lot of music , to the point where I need around 256gigs of storage but 128gigs will be okay for now
Ok /g/ I have a quick question about my super ghetto setup.
Long story short I fucked up my M50's 3.5mm jack and needed to replace it. So what I did was take a shitty pair of ear buds, cut it near the jack, and attached the wires to my M50's wires using pigtail splicing. It works and I'm happy.
What I'd like to know is how much did this change the audio quality? I don't know anything about audio stuff so I'd appreciate some input. Is the audio quality now equivalent of the shitty earbuds?
One more thing: the M50's use TRS jacks while the skull candy ear buds use TRRS. Does this screw with anything other than not having a mic?
Thanks
>inb4 solder a new jack
I might but this works for now and was free
>>57137365
>What I'd like to know is how much did this change the audio quality? I don't know anything about audio stuff so I'd appreciate some input. Is the audio quality now equivalent of the shitty earbuds?
what the fuck do your ears tell you, nigga?
>It works and I'm happy.
so why do you care?
Bump for interest
>>57137392
I can't tell much of a difference in audio quality.
Im asking because Im curious about how this all works
Found a used W520 with a 2860qm, 1080p screen, and an M2000. All for only $399+$1 shipping
Should I pull the trigger /g/?
>>57137350
yes
it has a classic keyboard
so yes
>>57137350
Maybe for $400 it isn't terrible, I was very disappointed with my W520 though way back when I bought it new.
>hard disk failed after a month (but support was good at least)
>a defect from shitty engineering caused the speaker wires to melt
>retarded speaker mesh attracts all manner of dust that's hard to clean
>absolutely unenjoyable to work on, horrifying internals
>all around shoddy quality of cosmetics, practically melts in your hand after a year of use and looks like utter shit
>unwieldy, wide piece of shit (thanks 16:9)
>>57137489
>""""classic"""" keyboard
This post smells of pretentious hipster.
*20 keyboards were very lackluster, I'd take a newer chiclet with decent travel over those mushy abominations any day.
can /g/ explain Boolean algebra?
i can wrap my head around it
do you understand normal algebra?
Seems pretty obvious here desu
>>57137326
read "the art of computer programming: bitwise tricks" by Don Knuth
The first few pages explain a lot about digital logic
I want to buy a security camera to keep in my room, just for tinkering. Money is no object. Does /g/ recommend anything?
What features should I look for?
Are there hidden cameras that get power wirelessly? I haven't heard much about wireless charging lately. Everything on Amazon needs a wire, which makes it difficult to hide a surveillance camera.
>>57137142
Just run wires through the wall. Or if you're doing it in your room, why worry about the wire? Once someone sees the camera, it'll be too late, they'll already be caught on video.
>>57137142
wureless power no
try connecting some batteries to the dc jack
>>57137142
>buy a webcam
>get decent webcam software
>have it snap a picture at 1-2 frames per second so it doesn't waste too much HDD space, can also have a program auto rar/delete snaps older than x days
or a phone with wifi and plugged in 24/7 to do the same thing as above.
idk any software which will do any of those things, so i'm pretty much useless anyway enjoy!
