Have we come to a point where it's pointless to waste money on most computer components anymore for the next 8-10 years at least?

Until Graphene comes, and that may be 10 years, or 20 years from now, it's all worthless pseudo-core wankery.

CPU and GPU upgrade are pretty much worthless percentage increases for the money, paying the full price of your previous device for a ~5% incremental performance increase, and a buzzword meme feature used to hook the idiots which either won't see implementation for a long time (software developers need a looooong time to develop new engines and code to utilize) or is engineered to only run on one product to showcase stellar graphs as bait (Hitman was even an incomplete game at the time that certain graph for DX12 was idiotically posted).

Basically, 4 core CPUs and GF 600/700 series is what's gonna do their good work for the next decade.

RAM is maybe the only anomaly since browsers are coded like diarrhea with memory leaks and features missing, while websites are coded worse and worse each year, so this seems to be the new upgrade norm.

What do you think?

I think that my 6700k @4.7 with 4266mhz ddr4 and a gtx 1070 blows the fps I got on my ivy bridge and maxwell gtx 970 build completely out of the wayer.

i think technology has stagnated and yet somehow next years equipment will run newer games and other softwares better
>>
>>57898580
Yup, Moore's Law no longer applies because we literally cannot make the circuitry any smaller than it already is. It's up to software devs to increase performance now.

/g/ have you experienced screen tearing on your distro? how fucking wide spread is this?

I've pasted http://pastebin.com/04XBWmNF into the compton.conf file, enabled Compton to autostart on Ubuntu 16.10 = no luck

Every single distro I've used thanks to NVIDIA and Xorg.

ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On
solves it on NVIDIA with Clutter. As with Compton, I have absolutely no idea. Never used it.

I'm with the Intel HD3000 on my T420, so was kind of surprised to see the massive screen tearing here. Weird that it came with i3
>>
>>57898650
HD3000 is fucking cancer, so many weird problems with that stupid shit.
I have my T420 using an EGPU now and haven't had any problems with nvidia.

Whats better?

Is the 480 really going to dominate the 1060 within a year, because of Dx12?

1060 is cheaper, but the 480 has potential?

Alright /g/
I bought the lenovo thinkpad T430 and its quality is horrible. I could downgrade to an T420 or a T410s because thats all I can afford. I would like to know if the T420 has the same shit quality like the T430

T420 is superior, T410 is the best in my opinion but less powerful than the T420.

T430 is shit tier and should be avoided.

T430 is almost literally the same computer with the only substantial difference being the keyboard and the addition of USB 3.0 port on all models instead of just the i7

Is that a girl version of Shinji?

I'm working on a stylometry program desu.

I realised that a supervised learning algorithm using user provided labels (user names) is retarded, so I'm grueling through the math to get an unsupervised learning algorithm working.

Just coded a naive Llyod's algorithm, about to turn it into a smart one using the triangle inequality.
>>
All trends seem to be moving into deep learning and stuff like that but I'm not smart enough for that and I don't know enough math

I started with webdev, then moved to Java (did a MOOC), then to C#, now I made a game in C# /Unity

So I know OOP fundamentals and decent amount of Java and C#

but nobody's gonna hire me if I only show a game in my github

Any advice what's a good way to get a job in any related field, what should I focus on? I'm in Europe

where are the job trends going?

I'm trying to set up a class that receives a date and if it's not a valid date sets it to 1/1/2000 (among other things it does)

So let's say this is how I check if it's valid

 private static int numDaysInMonth(int month, boolean isLeapYear)
{
switch (month)
{
case 1:
case 3:
case 5:
case 7:
case 8:
case 10:
case 12:
return 31;
case 4:
case 6:
case 9:
case 11:
return 30;
case 2:
if (isLeapYear)
{
return 29;
} else
{
return 28;
}
default:
return 0;
}
}

public static boolean isLeapYear(int year)
{
return (((year % 4 == 0) && !(year % 100 == 0)) || (year % 400 == 0));
}

public static boolean isValidDate(int month, int day, int year)
{
return (month >= 1 && month <= 12) && (day >= 1 && day <= numDaysInMonth(month, isLeapYear(year))) && (year >= 0 && year <= maxYear);
}

And these are my constructors for the Date object

 public Date(int day, int month, int year)
{
_day = day;
_month = month;
_year = year;
}

// Additional constructor
public Date(Date date)
{
_day = date._day
_month = date._month
_year = date._year
}

How do I "fuse" them so that every date I receive is checked to be valid and reset to 1/1/2000 if not?

Who is teaching you java? The _attribute practice is usually used in languages that don't have private attributes to distinguish from public ones.
