My soon-to-be 70-year-old mother has been using an iMac for the last 5-10 years. However, she has had a long series of issues with it. I think, more often than not, it's due to user error. As you'd imagine, she's not the most savvy with technology, as much as she likes to think she may be. The problem is, I live halfway across the country and can't help her with setup and troubleshooting, and nobody else in my family is any more capable than she is, so she's kind of stuck on her own and she's looking for advice.

I'm a Macbook user myself, but looking to switch to Surface as soon as I can afford it. I've advised her she may consider switching back to a Windows 10 device as well. However, I'm only familiar with the Surface line (and the Studio is well beyond her needs). I believe she will get far better value out of a new Windows 10 desktop setup than she will out of a new iMac, but I don't know which direction to point her in.

Does anybody have any advice in this situation?

Cliffnotes:

>Mother is 70-years-old and not very tech savvy.
>Longtime iMac user, deciding whether to switch back to Windows.
>Primarily uses computer for email, web surfing, and simple games.
>Needs as low maintenance and most "setup and go" as possible.
>Must be a desktop setup and not a laptop/mobile device.

Looking for ideas for brands/setups. I haven't shopped for a PC/desktop setup in at least a decade, so I'm embarrassingly ignorant to it myself. Thanks in advance to anybody who can help.

What about you take her out to the park. Chat all day, remember good times, buy her something tasty and take her home after a perfect day.

She's is getting old, anon. You must cherish all this moments with her. I would have loved to have done it at the time but know I can't.

Hi, I just got a Steam Link and I'm trying to use it over wifi. The problem is, my computer is connected over wifi and so is the Steam Link, making it very laggy and unplayable. Would the option portrayed to the left in the picture work better? Sorry if this is the wrong board to ask this in but if you can redirect me to the correct one that would be great

Just get a pair of powerline ethernet adapters from Amazon or whatever. It's basically the same as having a wired connection. They send the internet connection through the electrical outlet. Sounds strange, but it works perfectly. I'm actually using powerline ethernet myself.
>>
>>58245265
So I would just plug one in my computer right next to it and the same for the Steam Link? That sounds like a good idea. How much do they cost? Also do you know what these are that came with the Link by any chance?

Buy the i7 (k). There's no reason for anyone with a 2600k to upgrade, so with a current gen i7 you should also be fine for years.
I have two PCs at home, one with a 2600k and the other with a 3770k, and I see no reason to upgrade any of them.

Sorry to use you guys as tech support but I can't figure this out for the life of me. No amount of google seems to help either.

I had to completely disassemble my pc and put it back together because I screwed up a critical BIOS setting and it wouldn't even POST. Now after 2 days of work I've managed to put it back together and working, recover my files and make a dual Ubuntu/Win10 installation.

The things is as long as the PC is on, it runs like a nigger, I can do anything as long as I don't turn it off, just suspend or restart to change to the other OS and it hasn't crashed a single time.

However, when it cold boots, it seems to roll a dice and has about a 50% chance not even POSTing. Sometimes it displays an error about a failed boot and tells me that my ram is running at 1333 Mhz. My ram is designed for 1600 Mhz so I figured this underclocking is causing the issue, but for the life of me I can't get the BIOS to just use the fucking 1600 Mhz. I've tried manually setting the base frequency and multiplier and enabling xmp, neither worked.

Any ideas? The board is a gygabyte one. The ram sticks are kingston ddr3 8gb @ 1600 mhz blue ones. The bios only displays "UEFI dualbios".

Also, let's turn this into a QTDDTOT.

try BIOS reset (default settings)

then try switching RAM around in those four (two?) banks

then try BIOS update, if available

if nothing helps, maybe RAM or motherboard are faulty

Some guy forgot to password encrypt his .ssh/id_rsa key on a server I had root access to, so I used that key to ssh onto his workstation and forward X and kill firefox and restart it with an active session to his online bank account and an active facebook login. Transferred a small amount of money from him to my own bank account, just to be a dick, and face raped him just to throw him off.

Haskell was created because a lot of people had a lot of similar FP ideas that they kept incorporating into their own languages, but it's a lot better if it's consolidated into a single language.
Haskell's extensions make it a great place for language designers to experiment with new language constructs, typing mechanisms, syntax, etc.

Besides, it's by far the most popular purely functional language. Languages like OCaml just don't have that much going for it.

Homotopy type theory is always presented as Martin-Loef type theory, not as a pure type system.
