Buy the i7 (k). There's no reason for anyone with a 2600k to upgrade, so with a current gen i7 you should also be fine for years.
I have two PCs at home, one with a 2600k and the other with a 3770k, and I see no reason to upgrade any of them.

to
i7-2600, same mobo and R9 290.

That was two years ago and I still feel like I have high end PC.
