the 1080 has a lower TDP and the pictured card has a much better cool than the nano's.

the nano's cooler was massively underpowered as well, the card couldnt maintain its clock speed even at 100% fan speed, you needed water cooling for that.

? nano was officially 175w TDP, but in practice drew over 250w even in normal gaming loads. 1080 is 180w TDP but draws less in gaymen load, and only maxes out at 180w if you do a meme like furmark.

but the solution was to undervolt it a bit, and create a custom fan profile so it only speeds up if it hits 75c

with the undervolt it managed to not throttle and be more quiet at the same time.

undervolting might actually reduce coil whine.

Why change something that works good?

Gigabyte and Asus, don't fall for any other meme. Both aren't insane when it comes to meme OCing (Muh 50 mhz more on MSI and EVGA while the card gives me 1 fps extra and runs 10 degrees hotter) but they're reliable which for me is the top priority since I hate dealing with RMA, waiting weeks to receive another card just kills me especially since manufacturers in shitty countries like mine tend to just refurbish cards and send them back to you. MSI is hit and miss at best, their cards can be the best or absolutely the worst having higher failure rate than all remaining manufacturers combined (200 series for AMD). EVGA is trash but has very good RMA policy which can lead to getting your cash back after 2 years of heavy usage and having 5 gens of cards while paying once, depends where you live though. Never had Zotac but I start hearing good things about them.

This. In less than 2 years of time my MSI GTX960 hasn't collected any dust in itself at all. Unlike my previous Asus and Gigabyte, which looked liked something from a gore thread after a year.
