I'm not referring to all of you here who use desktop Linux for various reasons but I mean the whole concept of desktop Linux seems to be going nowhere. There used to be a time when desktop Linux was bleeding edge and could do things that neither Windows nor Mac could even dream of doing, and improvements that actually help productivity.

Win + Mac seem to have taken the most usable parts of desktop Linux and adopted in their own implementations for desktop. DEs seem to have stagnated to particular metaphors which are arguably inferior to either Win or Mac.

When will we get honest innovation on desktop Linux again?

You can't improve things indefinitely. Not unless you change the whole way we interact with something like a desktop.

Unless freetards somehow started developing eye-tracking software and registering hand gestures in the air and shit, where do we go from at this point? Back to that cube in your picture?

I suppose Linux could be better when it comes to touchscreens.

What the fuck is this thing doing?

All updates have been installed and the system isn't even checking for updates and yet at least a quarter of the CPU is being taken by this thing.

If you have a PC and are tired of waiting for your computer to turn off, get a power socket splitter with a on/off switch. Now when you want to turn off your computer, just flip the switch and it's shut down with ultra low latency.

What does this cable do? Who could possibly use it?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>58433647
this cable connects a HDMI port to Composite video and audio ports
Some people may want to use it
>>
>>58433647
A rare time machine. Takes a modern signal and transports you to the stone age.
>>
It only works one way (video coming out of HDMI device and going in to ccomposite device) and only works on devices that support composite over HDMI (next to none) so its basically useless

Can someone please tell me why macbooks are so popular?

Why don't people just buy gamer laptops instead?
>cheaper
>much better specs
>much better performance
>much better cooling
>much better keyboard

I understand a lot of people don't like the aesthetics of gaming gear, but you can't deny that it completely annihilates the macbook as a portable workstation.

>inb4 >>>/v/

I included a full price model to try to make it a more fair comparison, but you can get some of these gaming laptops even cheaper on sale.

Also forgot to mention the gamer laptop has ports and the one in the op isn't skylake.
>>
>>58433487
when will you /v/ kids learn to stop comparing raw specs and look at the things that actually matter in a laptop?
macbooks have objectively better screens, the best touchpad you can get, a far better custom OS, infinitely better build quality, and much better battery life
sure, you could buy some gaymen laptop that's more powerful, but the experience wouldn't even compare
>>
>no macos

hurr just install loonix anon, its better than macos

>have laptop
>comes with botnet cancer winblows 10
>install LTS version of any distro
>half the hardware works
>hibernation sends kernel panic
>broken bluetooth/sound/wifi/camera/trackpad

Even linux runs better on macbooks because the hardware is consistent.

My fiio x3ii also just werks but it seems the new devices they come out with have some real dodgy firmware on them. To the point shuffle just repeats the last song played.
