Will Rysen spike interest in making AM4 motherboards compatible with hackintosh?

why do some people pretend that Linux is a good "gaming OS"?
>>58427111
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What youāre referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as Iāve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called āLinuxā, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machineās resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called āLinuxā distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
>>58427128
it's been a while since I've seen the full pasta
It's an excellent gaming OS because since Linux is more efficient, it uses less system resources. This means more cycles for your CPU, GPU, less wasted ram and lower heat generation. All things which are excellent for gaming.

i'll let you in on retails' dirty little secret:
"don't charge what it's worth, charge what the customer is willing to pay"
Because there's a lot of intrinsic value that people fail to measure.
>consistent updates for everyone at the same time
>integration between iPhone, Mac, and Watch are unmatched by any other ecosystem. Android can come close but you need a ton of third party shit.
>Apple stores
>Tons of accessories
You're also paying for a shit ton of R&D. If you're asking why Apple didn't do something, chances are they probably did and realized it was shit.
The title is self explanatory.

It's not meant to elicit anything in particular. Most likely pairing two unrelated elements for comedic effect, with the added benefit of being easy to remember.
The French love their dadaism.
Anyone here works/worked with one of these? I've been wanting to buy one to fool around and maybe learn how to draw, specifically, the smallest and cheapest Intuos Draw model. It has an active area of 152 mm x 95 mm, which I think is too small, but maybe you can scroll it or whatever. What is your experience with drawing tablets? Do they work good on GNU/Linux?
>>58426288
Wacom tablets (and some other brands like huion) have great plug in play support in Linux. Just make sure to stick to desktop environments like unity, gnome 3, cinnamon, or plasma if you want a GUI to easily configure things with the tablet.
Also if you're buying for art check out the programs my paint or Krita.
>>58426288
Old thread, but I'll weigh in on what I decided to do as a compromise when upgrading.
I got an Android tablet. Yep.
Android tablet + VNC / RDP client. Specifically one with a decent stylus.
Works really well for remote control and as a graphics tablet.
You'll NOT get pressure control, but I've never cared for that feature at all.
Every time I have ever tried to use it, it always felt shit and unpredictable.
The only reason you'd ever want it is if you wanted to emulate using traditional media when drawing. I still find it vastly superior to steer fucking clear from emulating traditional media and techniques when drawing.
It's so much easier to deal with A single pressure that is reliable.
The lack of buttons can be overcome by having an on-screen keyboard open and writing some simple scripts in your favorite language (you can get nice small keyboards, or use a standard one)
Or, you know, just using your keyboard.
In the case of Windows, I just wrote some shitty simple Autohotkey scripts and mapped them to the function keys, which in my client I could have visible all the time. (Jump Desktop)
Speaking of clients:
I use Jump Desktop. It's the only one I've found decent enough for drawing with. It has 1:1 mapping of the stylus to the screen.
It has zooming mode so you can even zoom in closely for precise movements. Extremely handy.
Another one that is fairly decent is VNC Viewer. It doesn't have 1:1 mapping, but it still works reasonably well. You might not want 1:1 mapping so you can use another section of the screen for moving the mouse so you can see what you are doing. Also has decent zooming. (which moves the mouse relative to the scale)
bVNC also works kind of nice as well. Has various input methods you can switch between, but I found it fiddly.
Biggest advantage is if you get a Samsung tablet, it has multi-window support.

After numerous servers and failures, I've decided to throw money at my needs. Replacing all my servers with one.
My goal:
200w limit normal usage
Capacity for VMs
Over 10tb storage
Here's my parts list so far.
I'm going to get an ES of that cpu for around ~$150, slightly lower base clock, but fuck it.
The drives are all used, I'm not sure so far on redundancy solutions yet, maybe raid10, maybe zfs
>$1000 12 core processor
You don't need that. Buy a 6 core on a dual-socket board (google, you can find them for similar prices). That's more than enough for what I assume to be a fileserver+some VMs. We have dual socket 12 core servers (48 threads) and the only time we max them out is when we're running overnight UI smoke tests.
A dual socket board with a single 6C/12T processor will give you expandability in the future without loss of function now.

i run a server with a $50 mobo/cpu combo in a minitx case with an 8tb red
i could easily add 2 more drives but am short on cash for them
seems to run just fine for torrenting (5000+ torrents) and streaming over the LAN
i also watch videos on the tv is connected to
