If the 7700k pricedrop is effective, it'll be the best deal for everyday usage.
1800x can't go past 4.1GHz. The XFR turbo is actually the maximum this chip can do. In order to get past 4.1GHz on a single core, you have to feed the chip 1.4V or more, and everything becomes unstable.
If the 7700k gets below 300$ I'll buy.
Holy shit i'm dissapointed.

I remember when I was running gentoo and I would refresh the mesa page waiting every day for them to start supporting the 7970 with open source drivers (catalyst drivers were of course a joke).

The problem is it barely overclocks. Most reviewers were only able to reach 4.1GHz on the 1800x, with 1700x reaching 3.95GHz. That's absolutely terrible, not even 5%. Not to mention power consumption which skyrockets with a measly 150Mhz overclock. I'm at a loss for words. I've been shilling for AMD this past few weeks calling people kikes left and right, but I'm seriously considering the 7700k now.

bios updates should also help out me thinks. that, and most people benchmarking lately are running ram at completely different speeds, cas latencies, and amounts which i'm sure has an impact
