OK so how to turn pic related into its own separate switch that I can use to control a train horn for my 2000 Volkswagen Golf
26 posts and 3 images submitted.

That sounds fucking dumb. And it's a switch, put in line with power.
>>
>>907180
Change the wiring. Make sure its rated for the amount of amps you are going to put through it to power the horn its going to of you will melt it or the wires going to it and possible start a fire.
>>
>>907183
Kill yourself...
>>907184
It only needs to control a 12v switch wired to an air valve to dump air from a tank into the horn

Looking to make small cubes with plexiglass and maybe something else at the edges. The purpose would be to hold insects (I would drill some holes in the sides) and I can't really find anything like this because all the ones online are curved or for plants. How hard would it be to make something like a 4-5 inch cube with thin plexiglass walls and removable top? How much would it cost per cube?

Pic is about what I expect it should look like, but I am also unsure how to make the removable top, maybe a hinge? Any suggestions would help!

Can you get your pieces laser cut?

1/4" Acrylic sheet is very strong. PV Glue is like a chemical weld that melts the sheets together. Makes a strong joint. If you can get your pieces laser cut then they will be nice square and edges ready to glue cleanly.

The lid is up to you
>>
>>907129
Shouldn't be hard. If you don't care about identical ones, you could get a piece and curve it into a square with a heatgun (or pot of boiling water if you have a big enough pot) and then silicone the bottom on and silicone a top on. Cut a square out of top, attach it with hinge, pull handle, and stops.
Use non-mildew resistant regardless. Poisons and shit.

a thrift store will have all kinds of boxes and glassware in the decoration section cheap. i got this kind of flask for 25 cents to use as a case for a Raspberry Pi. in the toys section, you will occasionally find insect observation kits with a box, magnifier, net, etc, for a couple of bucks.

Hey /diy/

how can wire this relay so that when the voltage goes above 750 in the coil, it activates the relay that activates a re director to a power dissapator?
39 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
(the surge would be created by switching the power to the coil off)

I ALSO FORGOT TO PUT THE SWITCH BELOW THE REDIRECTION WIRE
>>
>>906519
Is that relay even rated for 750 volts?
>>
>>906524
its not

im asking how i could switch it on when the voltage across the coil went above

Is it possible to bake clay in my kitchen's oven? It goes up to 400 deg C.

Sounds like Fimo (or your regional equivalent) will be the shit you need, thin parts like outstretched arms etc tend to crack away from clay as it dries and shrinks, and the end model will be brittle as fuck. I don't know if you can bake ceramic clay in an oven, but I do know all the details I tried to build onto my models (mechs mainly) would often be broken off once the piece was fired (assuming it didn't droop before it dried)
>>
>>906474
Welp. I don't think I can find this stuff where I am.

So there's just no way to make pottery with a kitchen oven, huh?
>>
>>906479
>Welp. I don't think I can find this stuff where I am.

Really? Where are you, and can you not ship it in? Some other brand names I've seen are Cernit, Premo and Sculpey, the base material is referred to as polymer clay. Google around on that if you can't find a local brand, google may fill the gap for you under a sponsored ad or something.

> So there's just no way to make pottery with a kitchen oven, huh?
Not as far as I know, some other anon might know though.

Ok so long story short, I live in a massive basement with no natural light coming in, and no outdoor space in which to do this...
I wanna make an aquaponics system in my basement apartment. Yes, I have gotten permission to do so... my question is regarding the lighting.

I've been reading up and apparently alternating between cool white and warm white lights is optimal, but the light bulbs are expensive as fuck and need to be replaced every year and a half or so. Any more permanent way I can do this? It'll be hooked up to a car battery, because I'm cheap as fuck, my car has a mini generator for an alternator which I can use to charge a second battery every day, and I'm cheap as fuck with my electricity bills.

>>
Wait.. did you just say that you're regulary charging batteries with your car because you want to save money?? You must be kidding..
>>
>>906451
Why not pick a hobby that fits both your wallet and your living situation?
>>
>>906451
2 things, 1 I GUARANTEE that you're paying more for additional gas to run the second generator than you would paying for electricity.
2, if you want more permanency go LED, they'll cost more but last a decade or two. Also cost less power.

actually, WHY are you using a car battery?
are you doing ebbflow or nft for the hydroponics side of it?
And before you get started doing all this, consider asking around the neighborhood, someone might be down with you paying for use of their backyard with a few tilapia fillets and some tomatoes.

I was planning on buying one of those cheap usb circuit boards that you can wire switches and buttons onto.

Say I were to fuck this up(or the cheap chinkshit parts short), could it fry my computer? USB ports have surge protection right?

Pic unrelated

the girl looks nice, but it would have been more helpful to provide a picture of the board in question

>Say I were to fuck this up (or the cheap chinkshit parts short), could it fry my computer?
most of your computer is made of the same kinds of cheap chinkshit parts, you prolly couldn't afford it if it wasn't, and the chinks can build working stuff with those parts and apparently you can't

plz attempt to be not such a dickwad in the future

Sup DIY. Quick question. So I'm making a homemade boxing bag, and was thinking of doing something like pic related to hang it up so that the bag is hanging centered. I was thinking two knots like in the diagram internally would be perfect to hold the bag in place, cord will be wrapped around the bag externally in between the two knots.

Two questions:
1. Is this a good idea or can anyone think of anything better
2. what would be the best kind of knot to use?

Also incase it matters, the rope being used is 4 strands of paracord 550 braided together
>>
>>906195
you dont wanna use paracord because it will bounce like a fucking bunny

use rigid chains ie metal chains

also, the knots is bad idea because... physics
>>
>>906195
1: How much kg's is your bag going to be? What is actually going to stop said bag to slide down and fall on the floor?
2: Lower one- monkey fist http://www.animatedknots.com/monkeysfist/
upper one- not a damn clue

Hi /diy/,
I got a school assigment and I have to build 3 simple devices using IC74 series. It can't be any of basic circuits(comparator, multiplexor.. etc.). Could you suggest me something fairly easy to make, like transistor tester. Thank you.

I love the feeling of hot showers with the steam and love how it makes my sense of smell better. Love the way to steam opens up my pores etc.

but the hot water does a lot of damage to my skin. really dries it out. this past summer I did nothing but cold showers and my skin felt sooooo good. was amazing.

So how do I get the benefits of hot showers without drying my skin out.

buy steamer and then use cold water through shower head? Saw one for $1000 and it looked dangerous to use. I'm more of the type of person that sits in front of a computer monitor all day.

thanks for the advice in advance gents.

Its because it strips the oil off your skin, much like using cheap shampoo too often or using harsh body soaps.

I dont iuse soap but every 3-4 days, but take long hot showers every day. Makes a difference. The No-poo meme has some basis in reality, even if its a trolly thing.
>>
>>905962
how about a warm shower since you obviously loves showering
>>
>>905971
the cold water makes my skin feel so good though. I just want the steam. Is steamer feasible?

It is probably a piece to a lockout/tagout system.

When a qualified person operates on a component, especially electrical components, he will lock it, by putting a lock through one of those holes and tag it.

just my guess

How can I make a very high-voltage, low current, 4Mhz AC solid state tesla coil that won't just short itself out? I'm hoping for 1 MV or more.
61 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>905453
1MV is a lot of voltage. Typical commercial and industrial tesla coils peak out at around 50kV. Do you know what you're doing?
>>
>>905465
1MV is easily enough to kill you. Also, I think 3 phase would be needed.
>>
>>905465
Yeah, I know what I'm doing. I need the e-field. I'd build a Van De Graaff generator if somehow they could be made to produce AC.
