Hello /diy/

I've got an Ozito bandsaw. The blade that came fitted has snapped and I'm trying to replace it. I've discovered an issue with the blade guides.

The lower saw guide's roller pushes the blade over a very large amount.

That bearing looks way out of alignment. the blade guides and the bearing all appear to be on the one piece of metal, if the locknut is undone can that assembly be moved to realign it to the blade?
>>
I can only move it backwards and forwards. I can't see how to adjust it left and right.
I've lost the manual, their customer service is closed and their website sucks.

What if I just don't use the bottom guide roller? I'll adjust the other guides very well.

There's so many different types, is there a specific type to buy?

Hy /diy/ , i need some help :
I have an MSP430 microcontroller and with a thermistor i have made a themperature sensor . The hardware part is done but now i have problem at the code part , i didn't quite get useful information on the internet and i wonder if you could redirect me on useful sites or give some tips. Thanks :)

It's been a while since I've used the msp430 but I'll try to help.
Are you using that nokia 5110 display?
If so, have some info/code that might help you.

Assuming you will be controlling some HVAC equipment with that thing, how are you handling the higher voltage? I was thinking of making myself a thermostat but my unit is all 120VAC controls which makes it a bitch
>>
The display has 14 pins , it is not like in the picture . The project is not made for hvac equipment , but anyway I used a voltage divider between the thermistor and GND . It will just be plugged by usb in laptop .

Which anti-static foam is better? Pink or black?
15 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Black hands down.
>>
>>914205
Has it got graphite in it or somesuch?
>>
>>914210
Probably.
Pink just has an anti-static coat.
This keeps the foam from building a charge but not the component.

Black is conductive and anti-static, which dissipates any charge in the foam or component, as it is hard to have a potential difference, if the whole thing is conductive to itself.

Scrolls saws and jig saws are actually one of the safest types of shop tools. You are very unlikely to get anything more than a nasty cut with them. They don't take off fingers or anything like that. While that diy thing is pretty ghetto its not like its missing the safety gear of a real saw. They generally don't have any. I mean, what are you gonna do, put a guard on it?
>>
>>913914
>>913964
He just needs it clamped and supported better than it already is.

Oh and a guard won't work well because you need to turn the work piece. Unlike what is done with a table saw for instance.

How can I drill a small hole (a few millimeters) in a rock without causing the rock to splinter/shatter?

Specifically, I'm a Runefag and I want to make an amulet of fury (onyx amulet). I have some real onyx that I got on ebay. I have some twine stuff that works to make a necklace out of. I wrapped it around the onyx but I want to do better. I want to loop it through a hole in the onyx. If I use a drill to make a hole, will the onyx crack/splinter? And will it damage/dull the drill bit? Is there a better way?

Thanks

OP onyx only has a Moh hardness of 7.0. Carbide is like 8.0 Clearly you need some sort of diamond bit, or carbide bit. the easiest way would be a dremel and one of those like 13 dollar diamond bits. drill half way on one side, flip over drill to the half way point on the other side. keep going for the hole size you want.

BTW aluminum oxide has a Moh of 9 so you can use wet/dry sand paper to clean up the hole and make it shiny again.

TL:DR
yes you can drill a hole in your stone.
no it will not grant you magical powers.
>>
>>913833
Thanks anon. I don't have a dremel, so could I make a drill work or would it splinter the onyx?
>no it will not grant you magical powers

Soon to be graduating engineer here. I've seen hundreds of these devices on ebay listed as "EMP test bulb generators", apparently for testing light bulbs or for electing enthusiast tinkering

Other sights Ive seen openly list them as cheating devices for slot machines. My question is, are they legal? Is there some FCC regulation against them? If so I would think ebay would shut the sellers down, but like I said there's hundreds of them.

Looks like easy money to me, but I wouldn't want to go to prison over opening an eBay store.

Slot machines are computers now. There is no easy sort of manipulation you can do now that won't be detected or just cause it to crash. The only manipulation is around finding bugs in the program that aren't published and are patched quickly.

As far as bulb testers as intended? No idea. They are high voltage low current electicity. Never thought about if they are blasting enough noise to make the FCC care because they are usually novelties and couldn't really be tracked if you're only clicking it on one a month or once a year to do a science experiment for your class.
>>
>>913671
It's a high voltage transformer...
think tesla coil... or like a slayer exciter circuit ionizes the low pressure gas in fluorescent bulbs ...
As far as slot machine cheating. I'm pretty sure that it's not gonna work even if you could get something like that to work security would carry you out within 2 min... cameras man :(

Oh I don't have any interest in using them for slot machines spoofing. I just want to bullied them and sell them as a side hustle to my engineering job. A seller on ebay that I looked into made a few thousand dollars selling them in about two weeks.

My only concern would be if some dumbass got caught with one in a casino and then having the FBI ask him where he got it from. I assume if they're listed as being for educational or recreational use they're okay then?

Ive built a handheld coilgun before (pic related) for a school project out of disposable camera parts and from what I can see its pretty much the same principles. I realize this thread my be a bit off topic for DIY purposes since I'm talking legal stuff but I'm extremely curious about this

>>
tested it a bit using the arduino ide. (no atmega, just the esp8255)
still haven't used them for something cool yet.
i have a big ol' led screen. like 8x96 leds.
could be cool to have a screen i could type to over wifi i guess.
got too many projects, probably won't happen
>>
You can flash it with NodeMCU or compile a custom firmware. Either way, I've created some automated scripts that build all required tools in a convenient VM. You can find those on GitHub.com/Idorobots/esp8266-ansible
>>
>>913645
By googling.

OK, OK. You need a USB TTL adapter, or to piggyback off of an arduino board.

Use pages like this for reference: http://www.esp8266.com/

And if you want to go for easy-mode, and hell, why not, https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino

/diy/, I really need some help.

I found this rail and took it planning to skateboard on it. I'm not sure if you can see, but the supports on the bottom of the rail go to one side. It lies down perfectly, but since the weight is one one side, it tips when I try to skateboard on it. What can I do to keep it still? I don't want to keep it one place as I plan on moving it, so I can't lock it into the ground. I have some ply wood, some 2 x 4s, an electric drill with some drillbits, and (really shitty) hacksaw. Keep in mind that the hole on the bottom of the supports for drilling it into the ground is really really big, too big for any of my screws. Thanks

planks of wood like pic related. put cinder blocks on top of wood planks.
>>
Supports directly under each end should help, unless that curved shape does something strange to the FBD. Alternatively the wood and cinder blocks seems pretty foolproof if somewhat heavy handed.
>>
I forgot to mention that making the supports into a more triangular configuration will help with lateral movement but likely will not do much for vertical movement.

Hi /diy/

I have just had a new boiler installed and the wire from the boiler to the thermostat was too short. The installer came round and extended it with a connector like in the picture.

In the UK is this:
-safe?
-legal?

I spoke to him and he said it is a date cable and therefore safe, but I'd like to check. I've not yet paid, should I refuse to pay the full price and get someone else to redo the wiring?

Thanks

*data cable

For reference, he said it is bell wire.

Also, it is NOT in any sort of casing. It looks exactly like the picture.
>>
>>913136
Yes, that is quite fine. If you are still worried, just wrap it with electrical tape.
>>
>>913139

Okay, so there's no worry about fire or anything?

Should I pay full price for the work, or should I ask that they redo it?

Perhaps a solar powered heating pad inside and a thermostat? Though, you want the heat inside to be slightly warmer than the outside air to prevent condensation as night. Aside from that, those Indicating Moisture Absorbing Silica Gel things might work well if it is a small area. You'll need to replace them from time to time. Basically you bake them in the oven until they return to proper color and reuse them.

I here in the tropics (much more humid than Houston) have no real problem with deteriorating books over 10's of years unless they are left in the rain.

i wonder if you could get that 10kVA connected directly to the breaker box
>>
I had a 110V arc welder given to me, used it twice, now it collects dust. It worked well with the remaining specialty rod that came with it, getting that rod was expensive compared to the rod i use for my 220v, and that rod worked like crap in the 110v.

if your going to buy an arc welder get a 220v. if you want something 110v get a mig welder with flux core.

Your rod selection for 110v if it draws 15amp or under is limited and when i looked at it 10 years ago expensive.
