Heat it and cut it with a chisel. Use a band saw, dremel, drill holes in the area you want cut and then grind it clean, temper it to make it softer for cutting, cut it with a torch, score it and try and snap it in a vice, bend it back and forth until it fatigues and breaks, cut it with an explosive shaped charge, slice it with thermite, mind bullets, corrode a line across it with salsa and a DC power source

the easiest + cheapest way to make rough cuts in metals is to use a 4.5" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel on it (pic related)

don't just buy ONE cutoff wheel, buy a dozen... or two dozen. They come in packs for a reason.
They wear down as you use them, but they don't cost much. and it's still way faster than sawing by hand.

also--wear leather gloves and use full-face protection. the grinding disks can break and fling pieces around at 50,000 mph

Forgot to add, in terms of purity it goes:

PIC -> STM -> Arduino -> RasPi

In terms of ease of use it goes:

RasPi -> Arduino -> STM -> PIC

And in terms of usefulness it is all equal because you use the correct tool for the job.
Sometimes you need to flash a PIC, sometimes you just need to throw a RasPi and some copy-pasted code at it until it works.

I'm a PIC man myself but in fairness I think that's because I got started before the arduino and raspi were even a thing, maybe there's no need to do things the hard way to be honest.

Three issues:

1.) Difficulty obtaining materials due to legal restrictions
2.) There isn't actually that much use for DIY chemistry. Other than household cleaning supplies and soap, I can't even think of anything off the top of my head that I'd need to do any chemistratin' for. Okay, well, I guess actually I made some copper chloride for etching circuit boards, but, other than that, nada. It's a fairly niche topic.
3.) It's kinda dangerous, depending on what exactly you're doing. It's generally fairly obvious when something's gone wrong with mechanical or electrical systems, but you don't usually get a warning with chemistry until your eyes are burning and you're finding it hard to breath.

But I feel like it's mostly #2. Just isn't much you can readily use it for outside of its own subject.

If you ferment sugar and then distill the liquid, you'll get ethanol which flex fuel engines can run on.

A 24oz container of CO2 will only take up 13.5cu.ft of space at room temperature and sea level.

Using this small of a tank for anything other than a single plant in a small container would be pointless.

If this is for something hobbyist related, such as a mini greenhouse or the like, you are better off using nature to raise CO2 levels. I have a 25' greenhouse that I put compost piles in during the winter. Put of plenty of heat, moisture, and CO2

You still need a radiator. The performance gain the reviewers see is from the huge sink it is. Once its at capacity its not much better than water cooling.

You're also not running up against any sort of performance wall with air cooled boards any more. This might have a use if you need to get one more .1v out of your cpucore to get another 200mhz. Realistically that's not a worthwhile gain and you could probably get it by just blowing more air at your CPU power smoothing.

Your parts will be all gross. You can never use them in air again. its not cheap, and there's hardly any performance gain.

I did it. It was cool. Had a small fish tank with a rounded front sitting around. The oil was very expensive, though. Wouldn't do it again, although it cooled the components fairly well. It's too risky with kids, and I can't fathom submerging expensive parts in it.

Arduino is complete overkill for a project like this so you're right to look for something else. Any low end microcontroller like something from the PIC12F or an Atiny families more than enough. You can implement PWM LED fading in software on any digital output, it doesn't have to be an "analog" (PWM) output.

One of the reason the Arduino is popular is because it can be programmed just by plugging the USB cable into your computer. Most dev boards come with bootloaders like that, but a raw microcontroller needs some equipment to be programmed. A chinese clone PICKIT 2 costs around $12 on ebay and will let you program PICs.

There are also plenty of 555 LED fader schematics you can find through google. There's no programming if you take that route, but you'll need a small assortment of resistors and capacitors to build the circuit.

You already did. Since the OP is obviously a complete newbie, an Arduino is a perfect solution.

There's nothing really wrong with Arduino, while it's certainly overkill for the application, it's still a good learning tool as long as you realize that Arduino should just be a stepping stone towards pure AVR or other platforms. Nothing wrong with either of them.
The thing you quickly need to realize is that 'Arduino' is really just the ATMega mounted on top of a vastly overpriced board, if you go the Arduino route, first up buy a Chinese one, such as Funduino, it's much, much cheaper than straight Arduino and works just as well. The let's say 'proper' way of using Arduino should be as a 'programmer' where as you'll be building the finished circuits with just the ATMega and a few 'necessary' components to get it running (Crystal oscillator, 2 33pF caps and a resistor).
Now the reason why you SHOULD start with Arduino is also the flexibility of the platform. It's perfectly capable of working as a programmer for certain PIC series microcontrollers.

I guess I could come by it easier but I attended a class where the instructor used this stuff and it was much cleaner and easier to handle. He recommended it over ferric chloride.
