with a shift register like that you can put all the leds on at the same time.
usually with more leds you make them into a squareish matrix, have a string of shift registers on the x and a separate set on the y.
turn on the leds one row or column at a time

then you calculate the power drawn from a single row or column because thats the maximum draw at one time

i recommend using some spare wood leftover from the project and trying different things and seeing what you like. the process itself isn't exactly difficult.

1) sand the wood to a certain grit. (the finer the grit, the less stain gets soaked up, but the more you can see the fine grain features.)

2) wipe the project down with a scotch bright pad to pick up any dust. (more important for final coats of clear coat, epoxy, etc...) Or just use a rag.

3) get some stain on a rag. Wipe it on the piece. Try to get the whole thing covered in a reasonably short time, so you don't end up overlapping an area that's more or less dry.

4) wait XX time. (entirely up to you, the longer you wait, the more time the color has to soak in/the darker it will be).

5) wipe off all the stain that will come off with a clean rag.

6) repeat if desired for a darker color.

7) clear coat.

Honestly to be honest I wouldn't run the vac with the chop saw.

We tried that at the shop where I work but the hose connected to a fat industrial vaccum and it was a waste of time and effort---most of the dust diverts away from the vaccum hose connector anyway.

Just make your cuts and the suck up the dust after.

And if it's too big of a problem get an air compressor and just blow the dust.

That's a mighty fine piece of work anon, but you said the magic word which may result in this getting deleted per the sticky.

Meanwhile, I have always preferred darker, less transparent pipes. I clean out the tobacco residue regularly, but its often hard to scrub the inner walls, meaning I can still see the filth through the glass. I'm sure i'm not the only one bothered by this, something to consider I guess.

can you use toggle magnets? like, the type used for magnetic bases for machinist dial indicators? (This is a cubic base with a flip lever, that [basically] turns an internal magnet "on" and "off")
the base & arms are like $15 on amazon/ebay. I know I've seen places selling just the base part.

Just to make sure it wasn't a leak in the roof I pulled back the insulation, as shown here.

It's a sloped roof, as you can see. The portion of roof I exposed was damp, with condensation drops running all along it. Far as I can tell, it wasn't a leak, but just the condensation.

Otherwise, go buy some specific plastic film against condensation in hardware shop.

Best i can say is perhaps call some carpentry specialists in your area and ask if any of their vendors/suppliers might have what you are looking for.

Hard to suggest anything aside from wood, which would make a lovely keepsake. If you don't want the rings to be outshined by a wooden box (hardly an issue desu), maybe use a cream colored ceramic dish and some natural twine/hemp cords, or make up a box with board and covered in burlap for that rustic look? Unless you go really simple and make a paper box out of handmade paper of earthy colors, and some twine as ribbon, done.

Just some ideas. Not sure what sort of access you have to craft stuff.

I am just fiddling around with solar power without go full blown roof panels.

Realistically, I'd probably just use it as a power cube footstool in the living room, for putting my feet on and charging the laptop/cellphone.

Would this be an overkill setup? Or would downgrading to lawn tractor batteries make it more cost effective per functionality.

And, befor I check google, how do you calculate charging/discharging times for batteries?
